CORTLAND football 2016 TEam Guide Empire 8 Crown, NCAA Second Round for Red Dragons in 2015 Cortland’s first season as a member of the Empire 8 conference was one to remember. The Red Dragons won a share of the league title and earned the conference’s NCAA tournament automatic berth for the program’s 20th postseason appearance, including nine NCAA showings.

Cortland opened the season with a thrilling 26-24 non-league win over Heidelberg University on a Steven Ferreira to Jon Mannix “Hail Mary” TD pass on the game’s final play. The Red Dragons finished the regular season with an 8-2 record, including a 6-2 league mark. Cortland clinched the Empire 8 title with an 11-8 win at Ithaca College – its sixth straight win over the Bombers in the annual Cortaca Jug rivalry series.

The Red Dragons opened NCAA play with a convincing 45-21 home win over New Jersey Athletic Conference champion Salisbury University. Cortland fell at nationally second-ranked Linfield College of Oregon, 38-22, in the NCAA second round and ended the year with a 9-3 record. The Red Dragons were ranked in the top 20 nationally in two postseason polls.

Tunde Agboke – Assistant Head Coach/ Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Line Tunde Agboke begins his third season with the Red Dragons in 2016. He has been promoted to the role of assistant head coach in addition to his duties as the team’s defensive coordinator and defensive line coach.

In his first season in 2014, the Red Dragons ranked 11th nationally in Division III in third-down conversion defense (27 percent), and one of the linemen he coached, Gabe Ostrow, earned a mini-camp invitation from the NFL’s Washington Redskins.
