December Newsletter.Pub DECEMBER 2009 President’s Report Williamstown Football Club A lot has happened over the last 10 weeks since our season ended ingloriously on the P.O Box 307 back of 2 extremely disappointing performances. The disappointment we all felt in Williamstown 3016 September demanded quick and decisive action from your Board. The up shot of this Ph: (03) 9391 0309 review resulted in Williamstown in conjunction with the Western Bulldogs informing Brad Fax: (03) 9391 5497 Gotch that we would not renew his contract. I would like to put on the record that Brad E: [email protected] Gotch did an outstanding job at Williamstown over the last 8 years and I valued his honesty, work ethic and company during this time. It was not an easy decision for your Board but we believe that after 8 years it was the correct decision and we wish Brad all the best in his new role at Melbourne / Casey Scorpions. I am very excited with our appointment of Peter German and from the first time I met him I knew he was the man who was going to lead Williamstown into the future. I also welcome other new members of our 2010 Coaching Staff in Adam Potter (Reserves / Development Coach) and Line Coaches David Bourke and Ross Fisher. At the Meet the Coach night held on Wednesday 14 th of October Peter German outlined his vision for our Club, his perception of our Club from a distance and his recipe for success. Every player in the room that night left with a clear understanding of what they have to do to achieve success in 2010. Off the field the Board is thrilled that we have renewed long standing corporate partnerships with KFC and Empire Trade plus we have signed a new lucrative 3 year deal with Zaparas Lawyers to be our Shorts Sponsor. In the new year we will renegotiate an extension of our existing arrangement (which concludes in 2010) with our Major Sponsor Hocking Stuart Real Estate – Williamstown for a further 3 year period (2011-2013). I believe it is critically important that sponsors and our football club can establish a long term relationship that is mutually beneficial. We can only achieve this if all of our members and our other sponsors support one another and most importantly give the feedback to the sponsor that you are from the Williamstown Football Club. Hocking Stuart – Williamstown have outlined a marvellous incentive to our members where by your football club will benefit by listing a property to sell or a rental with Joanne Royston at Hocking Stuart in Williamstown. If you are in the real estate market please contact Hocking Stuart – Williamstown 9399 9888 and mention you are from our club just as long time supporter / member Geoff Van Wyngaarden did recently. The Burbank Oval redevelopment is progressing with both ourselves and Council awaiting Coastal Management approval. Once this approval is granted tenders will be called for by Council. I fully understand that members have been frustrated by the long process which has taken place but I can assure everybody that our dream is very close to becoming a reality. The Williamstown Football Club has been granted approval by the Australian Sports Foundation (Number 209120) where both individuals and companies can donate money towards this project and receive a tax 956 1958 1959 1969 1976 1986 1990 2003 deduction. I certainly encourage everybody to strongly consider the possibility of donating to this project. If people require further information or clarification please contact either myself – 0411 231 836, [email protected] or our General Manager Brendan Curry – 0409 857 308, [email protected] . Application forms will be on our website shortly. The Williamstown Football Club Board and in particular our Finance Committee have been very busy in gathering information in conjunction with Seagulls Nest Manager David Francis to fully understand the changes which the Victorian State Government have undertaken in the gaming industry. This issue is critical to the long term viability of your Club with this new system due to commence in 2012 when the TABCORP and Tattersalls duopoly ceases. This is a very complex issue and it has necessitated the Club to seek professional advice so that we make the right decisions in this area. An auction process will take place in April/May 2010 when we will have the opportunity to purchase our gaming machines for a ten year period. It is also pleasing to report that both the Williamstown and Western Jets administrations have relocated from Caroline Springs to Seagulls Nest, Level 1, 1 Mason Street, Newport. We see this move to be a long term strategic decision as it returns our Admin to our heartland. It is also great to see the redevelopment at Crofts Reserve (Blackshaws Road, Altona North) progressing so quickly which will result in the Western Jets having an elite training facility on the back of the money spent upgrading the ground lighting there last season. I would like to publicly thank Burbank Homes for their ongoing commitment to both Williamstown and Western Jets Football Clubs. Later in this newsletter members will be informed of player movement for the 2010 season and I am sure that we WILLIAMSTOWN FOOTBALL CLUB can have a successful year under Peter German. http://williamstown.aflvic.com.au http://williamstown.aflvic.com.au The 2010 fixture has been released by AFL Victoria and there is every likelihood that our redevelopment will commence in May/June next year which will result in Williamstown then playing its home games at the Whitten Oval. As more information becomes available we will keep all of our stakeholders fully informed. It is also pleasing that we are close to signing off on a 3 year extension of our Football Agreement with the ESTABLISHED 1864 PREMIERS 1939 1907 1921 1945 1949 1954 1955 1 Western Bulldogs (2011 – 2013). On behalf of the Board of Directors I wish everybody a safe and Merry Christmas and please enjoy the festive season and I look forward to you joining me supporting our great Club in 2010. After 18 weeks, the home and away season has come to a close and finals footy officially begins. Finals will be played across Saturday and Sunday at various venues across the west over the next four weekends, with the Division 3 and 2 Grand Finals scheduled for September 9 and 10. The Division 1 Grand Final will be played on either September 16 or 17 at VU Whitten Oval. This season has been an exciting one and this year’s finals series is shaping up to be one of the best to date. Deer Park are chasing their fifth consecutive Division 1 premiership. In Division 2, North Footscray and the Yarraville Seddon Eagles will reignite their rivalry and Jason Cloke’s Parkside will go head-to-head with the Wyndham Suns’ potent WRFL Footy forward line. Record Finals footy is a different ball game to the regular season, so it should be an entertaining Western Region end to the season. Football League Also, a special shout out to Hoppers Crossing captain Mathew Ryan, who will play game number 400 on Sunday. President Meredith Angwin Ryan has been a stalwart for the Warriors for more than 20 years and has been a great leader and personality of our league.
