Webster, whose AFL career was effectively ended by a succession of knee reconstructions, knew what the VFL Blues program entailed through his role as Carlton development coach. During his time with Carlton he had worked with all the young Carlton players who spent time with the Northern Blues and last year he served as the defensive coach.
