It is a season where there is now 16 clubs with Footscray and Richmond joining Collingwood, Essendon and Geelong as stand-alone AFL clubs while Coburg and Williamstown join Bendigo, Frankston and Port Melbourne as stand-alone VFL clubs. Matches played for premiership points will return for the fi rst time in a long time to Punt Road and Whitten Oval, two traditional and famous venues. There’s a veritable army of players either joining or re-joining the competition, some in familiar, some in different guernseys. And, there’s a host of new coaches, again some familiar to the competition, others launching their VFL careers. It all makes for a season like one we have not witnessed before. Here is a snapshot of each club, its additions and departures and how the season may unfold.
