The AFL game between the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne, featuring 22 players and numerous coaches and staff from the VWFL, was judged an overwhelming success from the standard of football to the media coverage given to the fi rst women’s game to be broadcast on national television. It was a landmark day for women’s football, with 175,000 Victorians watching the broadcast on Channel 7 and over 7,000 people viewing the game live at Etihad Stadium. Peter Jackson VFL broadcast partner Channel 7 should be commended for its role in promoting women’s football to the masses, with Jason Bennett, Chyloe Kurdas, Julia Price and Sam Lane providing quality coverage of the game. Such was the mainstream media coverage of the match, you could not avoid knowing that the game was on – which can only help raise the profi le of the female players involved. In its third year, the game is starting to be more than just an exhibition of women’s football, but a match that the general public looks fo rward to on an annual basis as they learn more about the stars of our game. Names like Daisy Pearce and Katie Brennan are now regular features of the match and both displayed their star qualities in the game. Pearce, Melbourne’s captain, collected 30 disposals and 221 Champion Data ranking points while Brennan almost kicked her side to victory off her own boot, adding the fi rst four goals for the Bulldogs to get them back into the game. They were joined by the next generation of stars like Youth Girls All Australian player Brit Bonnici and former Matildas goalkeeper Brianna Davey, who made their AFL debuts last weekend to show the future is looking bright. The wheels are now in motion to take the next step from AFL Women’s Exhibition games to a proposed national competition. AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan said it is now a matter of when and not if regarding the national competition for women, explaining post-game that AFL clubs have been canvassed for their interest in following the lead of the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne in forming women’s teams. It is certainly exciting times for women’s football, especially with the majority of the VWFL players in the AFL Women’s Exhibition game, who will be returning to the fi eld back at their local clubs in the fi nal round of Premier Division football before their fi nals begin next weekend. It’s a great opportunity to further support our future stars of the game. Finally, this week in the Record we recognise key achievements by people within two TAC Cup clubs. Congratulations to North Ballarat Rebels head trainer Peter Henderson who this week brings up game 400 and to Western Jets life member Alan Hales who will conclude his variety of match-day roles at the end of the season.     STATE & TERRITORY TRIBUNAL GUIDELINES 2019 1. APPLICATION These State & Territory Tribunal Guidelines (Guidelines) apply to Australian Football State Leagues (and other leagues at the discretion of Controlling Bodies) conducted or administered by one of the following Controlling Bodies: (a) NSW/ACT: AFL (NSW/ACT) Commission Ltd ACN 086 839 385; (b) NT: AFL Northern Territory Limited ACN 097 620 525; (c) QLD: AFL Queensland Limited ACN 090 629 342; (d) SA: South Australian National Football League Inc ABN 59 518 757 737; (e) TAS: Football Tasmania Limited ACN 085 213 350; (f) Victoria: Australian Football League (Victoria) Limited ACN 147 664 579; (g) WA: West Australian Football Commission Inc ABN 51 167 923 136. A Controlling Body may, at its discretion, apply part or all of these Guidelines to additional leagues conducted or administered by, or affiliated with, that Controlling Body. Where these Guidelines are adopted by a Controlling Body, the players, coaches, officials, spectators, administrators and any other people reasonably connected to that Controlling Body (and the applicable State League or other league) will be required to comply with these Guidelines. 2 2. COMPETITION TRIBUNAL RULES 2.1 Appointment of Tribunal Members The Controlling Body may, from time to time, appoint persons to the Tribunal. 2.2 Tribunal Members The Tribunal shall consist of: (a) a Chairperson; and (b) a panel of persons who in the opinion of the Controlling Body possess a sufficient knowledge of Australian Football (Tribunal Panel). Persons appointed to the roles in section 2.2(a) and 2.2(b) may be rotated from hearing to hearing, as determined by the Controlling Body in its absolute discretion.
