DIVISION ONE 15 WRFL FOOTY RECORD HERE COME THE TITANS By Shannon Brien

There once was an oval, way out in the western suburbs of Melbourne. The Wyndham City Council envisioned this once vacant oval to become a facility for junior football in the future. After a number of council meetings since that idea and hard work by the committee, the Tarneit Titans Football Club will finally come to fruition this Saturday afternoon in their debut match in the WRFL. Well, another season has arrived. It only seems like yesterday that the umpire’s kit was thrown into the far recesses of the cupboard for the summer months. Even so, the umpires have been hard at training since early February training twice a week as well as adjudicating a number of practice matches in the lead up to the season. This means that when the umpires walk out onto the various grounds today, they will be prepared and ready to officiate better than ever. This year, the WRFL umpires have been utilising not one, but two training venues this season. Unlike other ovals, the new synthetic track provides near perfect surface in all weather conditions, allowing our umpires to train to the best of their abilities. While Scovell is used on both Monday and Wednesday evenings, Saltwater is available on Tuesday and Thursday nights. This gives the individual umpires more flexibility and allows those who struggle to get to training on particular days, the opportunity to attend on an alternative day.
