May her soul and that of Prof. JPJ Theron continue to rest in perfect peace with the Lord and to God be the glory for enabling me to accomplish this project. 3 ABSTRACT The renewal of interest in religious healing methods in the past few decades, in response to various perspectives of illnesses, is ‘blowing’ through the PCC-one of the reformed churches in Africa. There are two underlying assumptions in this project: the first is that sickness constitutes a major threat to good health and the second is that the ministry of healing in the PCC is not contextual in view of respecting and incorporating the cultural, social, religious beliefs and values of its people in the formation of meaningful healing ministry. The healing ministry of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon is lacking in efficacy and essence because it does not make much meaning in the lives of the sick and their relatives. This project gives an overview of some of the causes of tensions that exist in the PCC concerning its ministry of healing. It critically analysis, interprets and discusses the empirical results of 26 (20 laity and six clergy) members of the Musang congregation alongside some theological reflections. The project explored and highlighted the importance of the traditional worldview regarding health, illness, healing and defines healing as the work of God and that it is imperative for the Church to focus on a more meaningful healing ministry that includes physical, spiritual, social and psychological aspects, thus healing needs to be holistic. Putting together the results of the literature review, the empirical research and the critical and theological reflections, the project suggests and affirms that there are theological, practical and socio-cultural reasons for the PCC to rethink, reformulate and reshape its healing ministry in the light of Jesus’ healing ministry. The project points out the theological, practical and cultural basis for a more meaningful ministry of healing within the PCC. These results reveal that the PCC has no choice but to embrace this emerging biblical healing ministry if it truly wants to remain faithful and in obedience to Jesus’ three but inseparable ministries of preaching, teaching and healing. Finally, the project proposes an integrated healing service as one of the ways towards a more practical and meaningful ministry of healing in the PCC at home and in the diaspora.     Church Crawling with Barbara Pym ‘Her books are indubitably “churchy”, partly in the sense that church-going frequently occurs and clergymen are among her best characters, and partly from the tacit and unproselytizing assumption that the world divides into those who do and those who do not attend their parish church. The ethos is always decently Anglican, but this too is taken for granted and no hint of doctrinal or emotional problems is intruded upon the reader. Religion, for Miss Pym’s characters, involves no anguish of conscience (“social” or personal), no dark night of the soul, but decisions about what vestments should be worn on Mid-Lent Sunday, what shall be served for luncheon on Fridays in the clergy-house, who is to query that enigmatic entry in the Church accounts, and “that rather delicate affair of the altar brasses and the unpleasantness between Miss Jenner and Miss Beard”. … Her treatment of religion suggests, in fact, a rather unusually strong, though reserved, religious sense.     Blain Biographical Directory of Anglican clergy in the Diocese of Honolulu 1862-1902 The ‘Reformed Catholic Church of Hawai’i’ began with the consecration of the first bishop of Honolulu, Thomas Nettleship STALEY in 1861. In 1872 the diocese became the Anglican church of Hawai’i, under his successor Alfred WILLIS the second bishop of Honolulu. On WILLIS’s resignation in 1902, the see became a missionary district within the Episcopal Church of the United States of America, and in 1969 the diocese of Hawai'i. This biographical directory lists over 50 clergy who passed through Honolulu in the first forty years of Anglican church life. Few priests were in the diocese of Honolulu more than a year or two. Many biographies reveal visionary hopes and bitter disappointments. Several lives are shadowy to the point of invisibility. At the end of the sections in the biographies, bracketed numbers indicate the sources of preceding information. The Blain Biographical Directory of Anglican Clergy in the South Pacific (which includes some 1,650 priests) may be found on the Kinder library website, in Auckland New Zealand. These bracketed numbers are there given bibliographical substance in a document accompanying the biographical directory. The compiler points out that this directory has been researched and compiled without funding. I am very grateful to the hundreds of correspondents and agencies who have voluntarily assisted me on this work since the early 1990s. The compiler welcomes corrections and additions sent to [email protected]. Such will be incorporated in the master-copy held in Wellington New Zealand, and in due course in the online version of this directory with Project Canterbury.

' This can only be done, Hunter commented, "by an effective, realistic attempt once again to reach agreement with Russia". Ten years later in the House of Lords Hunter spoke cogently in the_. debate on Disarmament and indicated underlying human factors which politicians ought to keep in mind. He supported the Archbishop of York (A. M. Ramsey) who had intervened earlier to say that "the right moral demand is... for disarmament by agreement" (6) and had listened to Viscount Alexander of Hillsborough's patriotic statement "I will never submit to my country being put into the unilateral position of being the only main Power that provides 264 no defence for the rights of its citizens".

    RELIGIOUS HISTORY There was already a church by the early 12th century, which was named after the Virgin Mary in 1220,308 and dedicated to her Assumption by 1408.309 The church was held as a prebend in the Collegiate Church of Heytesbury, and the living was served by a perpetual curate. The parish came under the jurisdiction of Wylye deanery until 1872, and Heytesbury rural deanery to 1896.310 In that year, Hill Deverill was absorbed into the new ecclesiastical parish of Longbridge Deverill with Crockerton and Hill Deverill,311 and was later part of the parish of the Deverills created in 1972.312 The tithing of Baycliffe once supported a chapel with its tithes, although knowledge of the site was lost by 1824, when Baycliffe and Little Horningsham in Maiden Bradley parish formed one tithing.313 Baycliffe became part of Horningsham parish in 1884.314 Advowson The church was presumably founded by the Giffard family, who held the advowson in the time of Bishop Roger (1107–39), when it was given by one Elias Giffard to the church at Heytesbury.315 Following the foundation of Heytesbury as a Collegiate Church c. 1150–60,316 the church at Hill Deverill was granted to one of its four newly- created canons.317 These prebendaries were appointed by the Dean of Heytesbury, from 1220 generally the Dean of Salisbury, until prebends were abolished by the Cathedrals Act of 1840.318 The right of patronage was then transferred from the dean 308 Hoare, Mod.
