Fortunately the injury wasn't too serious but it could so easily have been far worse. Our brilliant new children's playground probably does mean we have more younger children around on match days so the risk of a more serious incident has increased. None of us, I'm sure, want to be talking about a much more serious incident. Your committee have debated many times whether we should introduce a complete ban on dogs but have always shied away from taking that decision. Your co-operation will mean we don't have to debate this point once again. Get behind the lads, they need all your support...... Eddie G-S.

Head Coach: Head Coach: Gareth Greenwood Paul Dunkley

Referee: Cameron Worsley Touch Judge: Robbie Burton Touch Judge: Jake Readman Catching up with the Captain Last Season It doesn’t seem two minutes since we were preparing for the Grand Final. We beat West Hull in the qualifying semi and awaited the winner of their game against Leigh Miners. We all hoped ‘Miners’ would win so we could put right the result of the previous year’s final. The two weeks preparation couldn’t have gone any better, training five times in two weeks. One of these sessions was done at the Widnes ground to prepare us for the size of the field. Taking 19 lads to Widnes on a Thursday night shows just how much we wanted to win the game – and win the game we did. Pretty much everything we did in the final went our way and we came away with a huge 42-6 victory. A lot of people have asked me if Miners were poor or we were very good and the honest answer is a bit of both. Miners were poor because we made them poor and we were excellent due to the preparation we had put in. Following the final Gaz Greenwood was rightly named NCL Coach of the Year – a thoroughly deserved award.

Now we move on That was last year though and now we start all over again. We have lost ‘Engy’ to retirement (again), ‘Boultsy’ may also have retired and Ross White has signed pro for the Hemel side based in Dewsbury (work that one out!!) Other than those losses we should have pretty much the same squad as last year with possibly a couple of additions. Having not started pre-season properly as I write this I’m not sure who the new signings are (if any) but hopefully you will see a couple today. The draw for the Challenge Cup has been surprisingly kind to us as we have been drawn at home (having been drawn away to the RAF and Army in the past two years first rounds). I enjoy the cup as it gives us a chance to play new teams and I haven’t played Milford since I was about 9. I have heard they are a good side and have prepared well for us so I expect this to be a very tough game.

Siddal Juniors I genuinely believe we have the best junior section in the country. To add weight to this argument in the next two weeks we will have no fewer than three of our junior sides competing in their respective Yorkshire Cup Finals. Ben Jackson and Paul Hirst’s U13’s travel to Featherstone next Sunday (29th) to play Batley Boys in what I believe is their first Yorkshire Cup final. Then the following week (4th Feb) “our Digger” and Adie Booth’s U14’s take on Wetherby, and Scrimmys all conquering U16s take on East Leeds. I know the lads appreciate any support so get yourselves over to Featherstone to support the 3 teams if you are free. Good Luck lads!!

‘Crossley Webb Contracts’ (CWC) Sponsorship Arrangement The club is delighted to have secured a two year sponsorship package with ‘CWC’, a property refurbishment and maintenance specialist, based in Elland. As part of the sponsorship arrangement, CWC will be the main sponsor for the playing kits of all our junior and open age teams, a total of 16 teams in all. In addition to CWC’s logo appearing on all our shirts, we will re-name our home venue here at ‘Chevinedge’ as ‘CWC Park’ and install signage around the playing fields and car park. CWC’s Managing Director, Paul Holden, is hoping to attend today’s game. We are very grateful for Paul’s support and look forward to a close partnership for the next two years and hopefully beyond. Commercial Revenue The cost of running 16 teams, as well as the clubhouse, is a task that is not getting any easier. We have been just about keeping our heads above water for the past couple of years and the autumn and early winter months have stretched us, as the bar income drops seasonally. In addition, we have been hit with a number of unexpected bills to cover repairs to the mowers, lift, oven, fridge, as well as additional training facilities in Park Lane school. The sponsorship deal with CWC has been a welcome boost and the committee is trying to secure as much external revenue as we can. One such way is through new advertising boards around the perimeter of the main pitch. Johnny Lawless has volunteered to manage this project. If there are any local businesses that are interested in taking a board (or boards), please contact Johnny on 07779 806787. Junior Yorkshire Cup Finals A record three of our junior teams have reached the final of the BARLA Yorkshire Cup. Ben Jackson’s Under 13’s play tomorrow at 12.40 against Batley Boys. There is a coach travelling to the game, leaving the club at 10.30. If any supporter would like a seat, they are £5 each. Please contact Ben on 07950 383721. The Under 14’s and Under 16’s are both playing next Saturday 4 Feb. The Under 14’s are up against Wetherby at 11.30 and the Under 16’s take on East Leeds at 2.30. All of these games are being played at Featherstone Rovers stadium. For supporters who are travelling by car, the postcode is WF7 5EN. Admission is £5 adults, £3 OAPs and Under 16s are free. I know the coaches and players from all 3 teams would be grateful for any support. Club Membership In 2017 we are trying to increase social membership, which is only £10 per season. If any supporter who has not paid a subscription through a family membership, would like to pay their £10 to a committee member please do so. We will try and offer discounts to members over the bar in the coming months. Committee Meetings Anyone wishing to offer their services to the club, is welcome to join us on the committee. The committee meet monthly, on the last Thursday of each month at 7.30 pm in the clubhouse.
