1 Introduction

Preview Server is available for customers to literally see the new features of Voyager® before upgrading to a new release/version.

There are 3 ways to use Preview Server. The first ways consists of using the Ex Libris hosted software which consists of testing the OPAC. Using this environment that is setup and hosted by Ex Libris you can connect a browser to an Ex Libris provided URL and check out the basic functionality of the OPAC. You cannot make any changes to the display of the OPAC and does not have the extensive feature set that the OPAC is capable of. This feature is available to see what changes have been made out-of-the-box for the new release. You can compare this OPAC with what is available in your installation using an unmodified skin. Another way to utilitize the Ex Libris hosted installations is by using the Voyager clients. If you desire to test the clients out on the latest voyager release prior to your upgrade, you can download the clients from the documentation center. You must ensure that PC requirements are met for this version of Voyager. You can find those requirements in Section 3 of the Voyager Installation and Upgrade Requirements documentation. For specific installation instructions you can find them in Section 4 of the Technical User’s Guide. For media client instructions, they can be found in Section one of the Media Scheduling Guide. After the clients have been installed on your local PC, you can modify the voyager.ini to connect to the Ex Libris hosted voyager installation. You will be able to see all of the client feature updates and enhancements. If there is a client feature that depends on server side changes, those features will not be enabled. This is to ensure that our customers experience the functionality of the software without special customizations for any specific institution or workflow. Also, do not rely on your changes remaining in Ex Libris environment for the duration of your testing, if at any point a refresh of the preview server is required, this refresh may be performed without notice. If you are looking to focus on the OPAC and make customization changes in preparations for your Voyager upgrade, then you will want to use the local OPAC Preview Server installation. The local preview server installation is the second component of preview server and allows customers to test and try out the opac in a local setting prior to the upgrade. This feature will give you access to the xsl, and configuration files necessary to making changes to the look and feel of the Tomcat OPAC. This feature can be valuable and reduce the stress of going through the Voyage upgrade process, by making the necessary changes to the OPAC skins prior to your upgrade date. When you upgrade, you can then copy the skins from the preview server into your production environment. This feature can be most valuable if you do not have a test server environment to receive the latest version prior to your production environment upgrade. For customizing the Tomcat OPAC, you can find tips and how tos in WebVoyáge Basic User’s Guide and WebVoyáge Architecture Overview and Configuration Models. This document will explain how to connect to both the Ex Libris installation of Preview Server and the local preview server installation so you can begin testing the new features and prepare for your

2 Preview Server Requirements

2.1 Browser Requirements If you desire to use either the Ex Libris hosted OPAC or desire to test the local preview installation, you will want to ensure that your browser meets the requirements for this release in the Voyager Installation and Upgrade Requirements document. 2.2 Client Requirements The Voyager Installation and Upgrade requirements contains the minimum requirements for installing the Voyager clients on your PC. If you already having Voyager clients on your local workstation, you will want to ensure that you install these clients in a different location, not to overwrite your current production clients.

Ensure that your system has all of the system packages for your Voyager Server’s . In order to install the local OPAC preview server, you will want to ensure that some additional requirements have been met. This will ensure that you have no issues when you run the local preview server installation process. 2.4 WebVoyáge Requirements Outbound access to preview1.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com and preview server port 9214 must be configured on the server One (1) external port (i.e. default 7098) required for WebVoyáge and Skin Administration.
