Liturgical Propers in English language: Tone 5, text from book “The Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom”; pages 97-99 Epistle: A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Galatians: (Gal. 6:11-18) Brothers and Sisters, see, I write to you in my own large handwriting! Those who are trying to force you to be circumcised are making a play for human approval – with an eye to escaping persecution for the cross of Christ. The every ones who accept circumcision do not follow the law themselves. They want you to be circumcised only that they may boast about your bodily observance. May I never boast of anything but the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ! Through it, the world has been crucified to me and I to the world. It means nothing whether one is circumcised or not. All that matters is that one is created anew. Peace and mercy on all who follow this rule of life, and on the Israel of God. Henceforth, let no man trouble me, for I bear the brand marks of Jesus in my body. May the favor of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Amen. 2 Gospel: (Lk 16: 19-31) The Lord told this parable: “Once there was a rich man who dressed in purple and linen feasted splendidly every day. At his gate lay a beggar named Lazarus who was covered with sores. Lazarus longed to eat the scraps that fell from the rich man’s table. The dogs even came and licked his sores. Eventually the beggar died. He was carried by angels to the bosom of Abraham. The rich man like-wise died and was buried. From the abode of the dead where he was in torment, he raised his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus resting in his bosom. He called out, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me. Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water to refresh my tongue, for I am tortured in these flames.’ ‘My child,’ replied Abraham, ‘remember that you were well off in your lifetime, while Lazarus was in misery. Now he has found consolation here, but you have found torment. And it is not all. Between you and us there is fixed a great abyss, so that those who might wish to cross from here to you cannot do so, nor can anyone cross from your side to us.` `Father, I ask you, then,` the rich man said, `send him to my father’s house where I have five brothers. Let him be a warning to them so that they may not end in this place of torment.` Abraham answered, `They have Moses and the prophets. Let them hear them.` `No, Father Abraham,` replied the rich man. `But if someone would only go to them from the dead, then they would repent.` Abraham said to him, `If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be convinced even if one should rise from the dead.`` Літургійні частини Українською мовою: Глас 5, текст "Божественна Літургія Святого Івана Золотоустого"; сторінки 96-98 Апостол: До Галатів послання Святого Апостола Павла читання: (Гал. Our Eparch, Bishop Ken is requesting that at the conclusion of every Divine Liturgy we say an additional prayer for Peace in Ukraine until the end of the war. For peace in Ukraine, let us pray: Our Father ... Hail Mary ... Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever and ever. Amen. THANK YOU VERY MUCH! ЩИРО BAM ДЯКУЄМО! Gratitudes to all our parishioners, guests, visitors and all people of the good will who by their kindness share time, talents and treasures, all who helped to make cabbage-rolls this past week; Mr. Lawrence Syrnyk for fixing rectory door, every person who knowingly and unknowingly for the other people thoughtfully care and help our parish community, parishioners welcoming our guests and visitors, prayerfully participate at the church services, actively participate at different parish projects and programs, looking after and graciously supporting our Christian, Catholic Church community! The origins of the Ukrainian Catholic Church lie in the time when much of present-day Ukraine formed part of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. It was then, in 1596, that for a variety of reasons, many of the Orthodox bishops of the region decided to accept communion with Rome.(1) After almost four hundred years the resulting Union of Brest remains a contentious subject.(2) The new "Uniate" Church formally recognized the Pope as Head of the Church, but maintained its traditional Byzantine or eastern rite, calendar, its right to ordain married men as priests, and its right to elect its own bishops.

At the moment of the Cru- cifixion all the Apostles had fled save one, John, who stood at the foot of the Cross with the Mother of God. Everyone else had abandoned Christ, only a small group of women stood at a short distance from the Cross, and when He had died, they came to anoint His Body which Joseph of Arimathea had sought from Pilate, unafraid of being recog- nised as a disciple, because in life and in death love and faithfulness had conquered.

The mountains and hills that must be made low are pride, arrogance, insolence. Where there is pride, where there is insolence, where there is arrogance, the Lord cannot enter because that heart is full of pride, of insolence, of arrogance. • Ukraine: at Last, a New Constitution
No. 52 THE UKRAINIAN WEEKLY SUNDAY, DECEMBER 29, 1996 3 1996: THE YEAR IN REVIEW Ukraine: at last, a new Constitution lthough Ukraine was preparing to observe its fifth anniversary as an independent state in 1996, it seemed it would mark that milestone while retain- ing its Soviet-era constitution. And, though Ukraine was Athe last of the former Soviet republics to ratify a new Constitution, its Verkhovna Rada did so in dramatic style as the culmination of an all-night intense session that went on for more than 16 hours without a break. The big event occurred in the morning hours of June 28. The mood was euphoric and the atmosphere remi- niscent of the day when Parliament had declared Ukraine’s independence on August 24, 1991. The historic new Constitution established Ukraine as an independent, democratic, social, law-governed and unitary state with single citizenship. It enshrined Ukrainian as the official language, while guaranteeing the “free development” of the Russian language and other languages spoken by the citizens of Ukraine. The new Constitution of Ukraine guarantees basic democratic freedoms and rights, establishes a Western- style judicial system, guarantees the right to private prop- erty and the right to own land, and clearly divides power between the executive and legislative branches of power. Efrem Lukatsky “We have joined the league of European nations — June 28: Deputies celebrate the adoption of Ukraine’s new Constitution by throwing Mykhailo Syrota, chairman nations that have chosen democracy and freedom, and there of the Verkhovna Rada’s ad hoc Committee on the Constitution, up into the air.
