Las preferencias tróficas del grupo están orientadas hacia bromelias. Palabras clave: Insecta, Heteroptera, Coreidae, Leptoscelini, Amblyomia, Bromeli- aceae The neotropical genus Amblyomia Stål was previously known from a single Mexi- can species, A. bifasciata Stål 1870. In the present paper the genus is redefined to in- clude two new species collected in Colombia. This genus apparently is restricted to feeding on members of the Bromeliaceae, and specimens were collected on the heart of Ananas comosus and Aechmea bracteata. -

This table contains a taxonomic list of benthic invertebrates collected from streams in the Upper Mississippi River Basin study unit as part of the USGS National Water Quality Assessemnt (NAWQA) Program. Invertebrates were collected from woody snags in selected streams from 1996-2004. Data Retreival occurred 26-JAN-06 11.10.25 AM from the USGS data warehouse (Taxonomic List Invert http://water.usgs.gov/nawqa/data). The data warehouse currently contains invertebrate data through 09/30/2002. Invertebrate taxa can include provisional and conditional identifications. SGMA seeks to achieve sustainability, which is defined as the absence of several undesirable results, including “depletions of interconnected surface water that have significant and unreasonable adverse impacts on beneficial users of surface water” (Water Code §10721). The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is a science-based, nonprofit organization with a mission to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. Like humans, plants and animals often rely on groundwater for survival, which is why TNC helped develop, and is now helping to implement, SGMA. Earlier this year, we launched the Groundwater Resource Hub, which is an online resource intended to help make it easier and cheaper to address environmental requirements under SGMA. As a first step in addressing when depletions might have an adverse impact, The Nature Conservancy recommends identifying the beneficial users of surface water, which include environmental users. This is a critical step, as it is impossible to define “significant and unreasonable adverse impacts” without knowing what is being impacted. To make this easy, we are providing this letter and the accompanying documents as the best available science on the freshwater species within the boundary of your groundwater sustainability agency (GSA). -

Journal288 of Species Research 9(3):288-323, 2020JOURNAL OF SPECIES RESEARCH Vol. 9, No. 3 A checklist of Trichoptera (Insecta) of the Korean Peninsula Sun-Jin Park and Dongsoo Kong* Department of Life Science, Kyonggi University, Suwon 16227, Republic of Korea *Correspondent: [email protected] A revised checklist of Korean Trichoptera is provided for the species recorded from the Korean Peninsula, including both North and South Korea. The checklist includes bibliographic research as well as results after reexamination of some specimens. For each species, we provide the taxonomic literature that examined Korean Trichoptera materials or mentioned significant taxonomic treatments regarding to Korean species. We also provide the records of unnamed species based on larval identification for further study. Based on taxonomic considerations, 20 species among the previously known nominal species in Korea are deleted or synonymized, and three species omitted from the previous lists, Hydropsyche athene Malicky and Chantaramongkol, 2000, H. simulata Mosely, 1942 and Helicopsyche coreana Mey, 1991 are newly added to the checklist. Hydropsyche formosana Ulmer, 1911 is recorded from the Korean Peninsula for the first time by the identification of Hydropsyche KD. In addition, we recognized 14 species of larvae separated with only tentative alphabetic designations. As a result, this new Korean Trichoptera checklist includes 218 currently recognized species in 66 genera and 25 families from the Korean Peninsula. Utah ranks the species as SH (Possible extirpated, historical), and in Washington it is ranked as S1 (Critically imperiled because of extreme rarity or because it is somehow especially vulnerable to extinction or extirpation). (NatureServe 2008) Technical Description : Adult: Characteristic of the family Gomphidae, this species has small, widely separated eyes and enlarged posterior abdominal segments (often less apparent on females). The conspicuously pale-ringed abdomen and pale green thorax with four distinct dark stripes are diagnostic for this species (Paulson 1999). The thorax is whitish between one pair of stripes (Paulson 2007a). The wings are clear with a slight yellowing at their bases (Abbot 2007). Total length: 46-55 mm (1.8-2.2 in.); abdomen: 31-39 mm (1.2-1.5 in.); hindwing: 26-32 mm (1-1.3 in.). Immature: Erpetogomphus in the Pacific Northwest can be identified by the following traits: prementum and palpal lobes flat (as opposed to cup-shaped), antennae 4-segmented, wing pads divergent, labium wide (maximum width more than half maximum width of head across eyes), tips of cerci extending at least 0.9 times (as opposed to 0.75 times) the distance to the tip of epiproct (Tennessen 2007). -

The Distribution and Biology of the A. 15 Oregon Trichoptera PEE .1l(-.", DBR Y w OREGON STATE Technical Bulletin 134 AGRICULTURAL 11 EXPERIMENTI STATION Oregon State University Corvallis, Oregon INovember 1976 FOREWORD There are four major groups of insectswhoseimmature stages are almost all aquatic: the caddisflies (Trichoptera), the dragonflies and damselflies (Odonata), the mayflies (Ephemeroptera), and the stoneflies (Plecoptera). These groups are conspicuous and important elements in most freshwater habitats. There are about 7,000 described species of caddisflies known from the world, and about 1,200 of these are found in America north of Mexico. All play a significant ro'e in various aquatic ecosystems, some as carnivores and others as consumers of plant tissues. The latter group of species is an important converter of plant to animal biomass. Both groups provide food for fish, not only in larval but in pupal and adult stages as well. Experienced fishermen have long imitated these larvae and adults with a wide variety of flies and other artificial lures. It is not surprising, then, that the caddisflies have been studied in detail in many parts of the world, and Oregon, with its wide variety of aquatic habitats, is no exception. Any significant accumulation of these insects, including their various develop- mental stages (egg, larva, pupa, adult) requires the combined efforts of many people. Some collect, some describe new species or various life stages, and others concentrate on studying and describing the habits of one or more species. Gradually, a body of information accumulates about a group of insects for a particular region, but this information is often widely scattered and much effort is required to synthesize and collate the knowledge. -

E-mail:[email protected] Abstract Nothotrichia Flint 1967 is a small genus of infrequently collected microcaddisflies known from Chile and Brazil in South America, Costa Rica in Central America, and the United States in North America. Previously known only from adult specimens, we provide the first description and illustration of a larva in the genus, the larva of N. shasta from California, USA. We provide characters to separate Nothotrichia from other similar genera and an updated key to larval Hydroptilidae modified from that of Wiggins (1996). Larval characters provide additional evidence for the phylogeny and classification of the genus, which we now place tentatively in tribe Ochrotrichiini (subfamily Hydroptilinae). Key words: caddisflies, microcaddisflies, United States Introduction The genus Nothotrichia was erected by Flint (1967) for N. illiesi in Chile. A second species, N. cautinensis, also from Chile was added by Flint in 1983. The genus was thought to be Neotropical in distribution until a third species, N. shasta, was described from California, USA, by Harris and Armitage (1997).
