GEORGE-ANNE 4 Monday, October 27,2003 Our Opinion Dont let football folly squelch school spirit

It seems everyone's disappointed in this year's Eagles, and with fairly good reason. A team that normally has no trouble soaring into the playoffs has hit a rough spot and can't catch up. But, truth be told, we're not the first school in history to lose our own Homecoming game. If it makes you feel any better, we're still leading the Southern Confer- ence in rushing yards. Our six I-AA National Championship titles still set a record in our division. But, whether or not our football team is making the headlines, we shouldn't hesitate to express our pride as usual. We have thousands of reasons to be glad we're Georgia Southern Eagles. We have the finest Information Technology facilities in the Southeast. The average SAT scores of our students surpass both state and national averages. (According to 2002-2003 , the national average is 1020, while the GSU average is 1052.) For those who would justifiably question the pertinence of standar- tized test scores, thousands of students at our institution also contribute research and other applications of their knowledge in the local academic reserves as well as in national conferences ms&zk£f G3MPU5 and organizations. Not to mention the fact that we do have other hard-working sports teams. Georgia Southerns cheerleading team made all of the little girls watch- ing scream and go wild as they walked by. As the parade continued, a Bulloch County fire truck came through with the football team. Each group represented their organization in the parade. However, the American Society of Interior Design seemed to lead the way with their huge rocket 0 ** and the first place trophy for the float contest.

V.A. vs V.A • • Two Completely Different Views M Everyone's tastes in films are different. This week V.A. vs V.A. reflects just that. Erik V.A. Howard would recommend you go see the more mainstream 'Runaway Jury' for its high impact action and storyline. V.A.
