Amrut Double Cask Single Malt Whisky 46% Abv Limited Release AMRUT DOUBLE CASK SINGLE MALT WHISKY 46% ABV LIMITED RELEASE A Unique Marriage of Two Single Casks – Bourbon and PX Sherry Color: Medium amber, orange blossom honey. Nose: I can feel the PX cask dominating on the nose... Bitter chocolate, cherry coke and dried cranberries. Zante currants, damson plums and ripe Black Mission figs. Dusty and slightly ashy... A little of aged Slivovitz. Noses like a younger spirit than it is actually. Adding water lifted ex-bourbon barrel aromas up a notch. Vanilla, burnt sugar and grilled pineapple rings. Oak and maple syrup. Palate: Very dry... Ex-bourbon barrel takes the lead on the palate. Toasted new oak, allspice and ground cloves. A lot of young toasted wood and Middle Eastern spices. Cumin, cinnamon and cardamom. Some black garden soil, prunes and Christmas spice mix. Adding water works great: Nutmeg, cinnamon and freshly ground black pepper. Finish: Medium long with cinnamon and cloves mainly. Some white pepper and eucalyptus drops. Overall: Limited Amrut expressions are nothing but surprises... Right now when I was getting ready to taste a sherry dominated profile after what I got from the nose initially it hit me with a dry and spicy new craft bourbon palate instead. I know the label says "barrel" for the size of the ex-bourbon cask used for the vat but it taste so much like a small cask matured American bourbon. If you are a fan of craft bourbons with a lot of wood influence and spices you will absolutely fall in love with this Review by Bozzy Bokurt http://www.bozzy.org/2017/02/amrut-double-cask.html Exclusively Imported by Purple Valley Imports USA. This was a great challenge – an attempt at considering what until a few months ago was unthinkable. Another “younger brother”, following the Spanish edition of Sour “Best of Bartales”. With hindsight, and fingers crossed, we put our experience to good use while riding the long wave of this crisis. This is the real meaning of hard times: attempting to turn hardship to your advantage, turning a disadvantage into an opportunity and upping the ante. It’s a wager, of course, perhaps even a gamble and at such an uncertain time. But it’s in these game-changing moments, we told ourselves, and during the hardest, that we have to pull out all the stops. “When the going gets tough, the tough get going”, in the words of that genius, John Belushi. It’s a statement that’s made history. We’ve borrowed it too – don’t hold it against us, John – for the launch of our next adventure: the Mandarin edition. It’s not use denying that there’s a touch of tension and some light-headedness.

  • Amrut Shakes up Cocktail Scene AMRUT Fusion Was the Toast of the Cocktail Lounge When the World’S Best Whiskies Were Put to the Test in New York City in June
June 2012 Amrut shakes up cocktail scene AMRUT Fusion was the toast of the cocktail lounge when the world’s best whiskies were put to the test in New York City in June. The Ultimate Cocktail Challenge pits whiskies against each other in identically-made cocktails and Amrut Fusion was the judges’ ultimate recommendation for the Rob Roy. Fusion was awarded the Chairman’s Trophy for its performance in this classic whisky and vermouth cocktail. The judges’ comments were: “Lovely frosty brown appearance in the coupe. Aromatically, this cocktail highlights the Amrut Fusion Single Malt to a fine point as the nose is all about bread, baking yeast and breakfast cereal. Impeccable balance is the underlying asset. Amrut from India is now ready to play in the big leagues of whisk(e)y.” Hundreds of cocktails were tasted and rated in the Ultimate Cocktail Challenge and the coveted Chairman’s Trophy only awarded to the top-performing spirits. The judges, led by Paul Pacult the challenge’s founder, spent a week assessing how a range of spirits performed as the base of classic cocktails. Fusion was also a Finalist in the Rusty Nail category and a “strong recommendation” for a Blood & Sand. Entered brands were tasted in all cocktail recipes for their category. For instance, all whiskies were tasted in a Rob Roy, Rusty Nail and Blood & Sand. The cocktails were all carefully made – to identical standards – by professional bartenders out of sight of the judges. They were then tasted blind in the appropriate glassware. The cocktail challenge takes the guesswork out of making your own cocktails.

  • Greedy Angels Peated Sherry
This Collectors’ Edition of Greedy Angels is dedicated to the memory of Neel R Jagdale, Amrut’s recently departed Chairman and Managing Director. Neel was a truly INSPIRED SPIRIT. Greedy Angels Peated Sherry COLLECTORS’ EDITION GREEDY ANGELS PEATED SHERRY - 10 YO Final Chairman’s Reserve DISTILLER NOTES: Neel’s final Chairman’s Reserve selection showcases what he believed in; an Indian Single Malt could stand proudly along side great Scottish Single Malts. Amrut Greedy Angels 10 YO Peated Sherry is the second 10 YO, but marks the first time that we have aged a peated whisky for 10 years in India. This marks another milestone in Amrut Distilleries’ innovative exploration of the world of single malt whisky. 3 x 750ml Aging under the fierce sun of Bangalore, with its low humidity, is 60% abv especially tricky over longer periods as there is a critical period beyond which the whisky could turn too woody. The process began by casking the peated newly made spirit, distilled from Scottish peated barley, into first fill PX-Sherry Butt for 7 years. After this maturation, the whisky was transferred to an ex-Bourbon cask and a 100 litre refill virgin oak barrel respectively and aged for a further three years. We’ve followed an unusual process of moving from Sherry cask to ex-Bourbon which would normally have been done the other way around. We have bottled this whisky at 60%ABV to reveal the depth and complexity. There are only 108 bottles for the USA. Surrinder Kumar Master Distiller TASTING NOTES: NOSE: Blast of Sherry, baking spices, the high alcohol is muted by the flavors.

  • Amrut Distilleries Ltd Is Part of the Jagdale Group, Based in the Southern Indian City of Bangalore
Amrut launch, Glasgow, August 2004 Keeping the Spirit Alive According to Indian mythology, when the Gods and the Rakshas - the demons - churned the oceans using Mt Meru, a golden pot sprang out containing the Elixir of Life. That was called the "Amrut". The founders of our distillery aptly named it after this Elixir of Life. Amrut Distilleries Ltd is part of the Jagdale Group, based in the southern Indian city of Bangalore. Founded by the late Mr Radhakrishna Jagdale in 1948, the group initially started as a small liquor blending and bottling unit. Five decades later, the company is acknowledged as a leading manufacturer of quality liquor products. Amrut’s foray into the market began in the 1950s and 1960s with its dark Rum, “Amrut XXX” and “Silver Cup Brandy”, catering for the Indian armed forces and the Civilian markets. Since then, for over four decades, the company’s products have retained their popularity with the military personnel, besides gaining equal prominence with the civilian population in the south Indian states. In the early 1970s, the company embarked on the manufacture of grape brandy from the famous Bangalore blue grapes with initial technology from the Central Food & Technology Research Institute (CFTRI) which is a premier food technology institute run by the Government of India. The company still produces and markets its bandy “Bejois” which is extremely popular in the south Indian states and with the military. Richer from the experience gained in brandy distillation during the 1970s, Amrut Distilleries embarked on distilling malt whisky in the early 1980s. Over the subsequent two decades, several Scottish experts helped to refine the distillation and maturation practices.

WHISKEY COLLECTION APPRECIATING WHISKEY LOOK Before you do anything, look at the whiskey. You can learn a lot from its color. Generally speaking, the darker the whiskey, the older it is because whiskey gets its color from contact with the oak barrel during aging. The type of barrel matters as well. For example, a scotch whisky being aged in a bourbon barrel that has been used several times is not going to pick up as much color from the barrel. If that same whisky was Daily Specials put in a used sherry or port cask, it will pick up some of those colors in addition to the oak barrel.
