Citing the principal media for child-targeted advertising, (comic books, youth magazines, school displays and radio and television), the speaker exposed the present-day practices in the marketing of toys, pills and edible products. The relationship between "misleading, often seductive advertising" and over-the-counter drugs and non-nutritional foodswas explored. Mr. Choate was_critical of previous attempts at advertising reform and points out several areas where, he said, the advertisers failed to follow through with previous pledges assuringmore straightforward ads. In conclusion, he called for more regulation, particularly by the FTC, Federal Drug Administration, and Federal Communications Commission, to tightly restrain the country's merchants from "coveting our children's purses." A listing of the fifth largest food companies and their advertising agencies is provided. (MC) El EVEIITH COZ,114ADD',.rENT: THOU SHALT NOT COVET AY CHILD'S l'Ultrri, U S DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH. -

Downloaded by [New York University] at 13:09 03 October 2016 LEGO STUDIES Since the “Automatic Binding Bricks” that LEGO produced in 1949, and the LEGO “System of Play” that began with the release of Town Plan No. 1 (1955), LEGO bricks have gone on to become a global phenomenon, and the favorite building toy of children, as well as many an AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO). LEGO has also become a medium into which a wide number of media franchises, including Star Wars , Harry Potter , Pirates of the Caribbean , Batman , Superman , Lord of the Rings , and others, have adapted their characters, vehicles, props, and settings. The LEGO Group itself has become a multimedia empire, including LEGO books, movies, television shows, video games, board games, comic books, theme parks, magazines, and even MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role-playing games). LEGO Studies: Examining the Building Blocks of a Transmedial Phenomenon is the fi rst collection to examine LEGO as both a medium into which other fran- chises can be adapted and a transmedial franchise of its own. E This newsletter is available online as a 3.3Mb PDF formatted document at: H FALL www.drewprops.com/lowtide T LOWTIDE2000 covering the Southern Film-Scene like a soft, drapey thing of affordable goodness TAILGate NEW YORK - This week the toy-manufacturing industry was rocked by the news that the MEGO Corporation, believed bankrupt and out of business since the early 1980's, had faked the news of their own demise and were in fact working on prototypes for new interactive toys just in time for Christmas 2000. The dramatic photographs shown below indicate that MEGO plans to introduce a complete line of toys based upon the film "Run Ronnie, Run". Our spies brought back photographs of playsets, accessories and lite-brite patterns based on various situations and characters found throughout the film. Spokesman for MEGO, Alan Fong, states that "we were really stung by the bad reception to our Happy Days figures and the T E surprise success of our Dukes of Hazzard line was unexpected. Our HE TR leader decided to pull the plug and re-think our strategy entirely. A Now we're back, we're focused and we believe that we'll be making the best MEGO-style figures you've ever seen!" The grips invite you to their after-lunch performance Specifications on the two toys shown below, 'Bank Heist Ronnie' and series entitled "Tailgate Theatre". Enjoying its 8th 'Clobber-Me Clay" are very nice. Besides looking very much like the successful season, this reading/theatrical series has actors, the figures sport voice chips with over 200 sayings each. -

Some Key Toy Manufacturers
45936 MOC Must Toys Book6 12/1/05 7:53 am Page 41 Some key toy manufacturers Britain Abbatt Toys Paul and Marjorie Abbatt were pioneers of innovative educational toys in the 1930s. They set up in business in 1932 selling toys to friends and by mail order from their flat in Tavistock Square, London. Demand was such that in 1936 they opened a child friendly shop at 94 Wimpole Street, designed by their friend the architect Ernö Goldfinger. The Abbatts were his main clients at the time and he designed toys and nursery equipment for them. They were concerned with the play needs of children in general, introducing a range of toys for children with physical disabilities devised by Milan Morgenstern. In 1951 they were instrumental in setting up the Children’s Play Activities Trust Ltd. to promote excellence in toy design and manufacture. After Paul Abbatt died in 1971 the business was bought by the Educational Supply Association. William Britain Ltd. Britains Ltd. was founded by William Britain in London in 1840. At first Britains made tin and clockwork toys and from the 1890s they made model soldiers. It also opened an office in Paris, France in 1905. The company made munitions for both world wars. In 1954 Herald miniatures, makers of unbreakable plastic toys, became a subsidiary of Britains. In 1966 Britains ceased to manufacture its metal soldiers. It was purchased by Ertl Co. in 1997. The Chad Valley Co. Ltd. The Chad Valley trademark was first registered in 1897 when the original company of Johnson Brothers added games to its stationery range. -

Movie Merchandising and Its Consumer Perception
Integrated Economy and Society: Management, Diversity, Creativity, Knowledge and Learning and Technology International Conference 2018 16–18 May 2018 Technology, Innovation Naples • Italy and Industrial Management MOVIE MERCHANDISING AND ITS CONSUMER PERCEPTION Ádám Horváth Szent István University, Hungary [email protected] Balázs Gyenge Szent István University, Hungary [email protected] Abstract: It is quite common nowadays that the brands and audiovisual elements of movies are not only present in the movie theatres but on the shelves of retailers as well in various forms of accompanying products. This phenomenon can be described as an image transfer, or in a more commonly known term, merchandising, when distinct products and services are linked together with other events, in this case with the release of movies. This paper aims to explore the main characteristics of movie related merchandising and to study the various kinds of image transfer used by movies, their different form of appearances and their history and altogether the role merchandising plays among the other tools that are available to promote the release of a new movie. The paper's aims include mapping out the various channels used by merchandising to reach the consumers and to see how their perception have changed over time regarding the products and services involved (the goal is to expose the main theoretical correlations, while the primary research is not part of the paper). All the while the paper also seeks to find out what the possible criteria could be that a certain movie has to meet in order to be considered fit to use merchandising as a promotional tool (and in which period of the movie's life cycle do they emphasise it), what the main differences are between newly introduced intellectual properties and already existing well known brands of movie series (or "cinematic universes"). -
