The purpose of this hearing is to examine the role the Department of Energy's (DOE) national scientific user facilities play in enabling basic research that drives innovation and economic growth. Additionally, the hearing will examine challenges and opportunities associated with user facility planning and management. To achieve this mission, SC supports basic research activities in the following areas: advanced scientific computing, basic energy sciences, biological and environmental research, fusion energy sciences, high energy physics, and nuclear physics.
