After a season marred by injury, Kennedy has made an immediate impact during the NAB scoring at 77 points per 100 mins. My biggest value fwd though, has to go to Lion Patrick Karnezis who looks set for a 3rd year breakout. He is finding plenty of the ball off the wing and through the middle, scoring at a whopping 124 points per 100 minutes. He was outstanding over the first 3 quarters of the NAB final for 81.

FIRST ROUND LOCKOUT MARATHON!

Round 1 this year is a thumper! With the first game on Friday 22nd March and the last on Monday 1st April, we’ll all need to be switched on to navigate the partial lockouts and get our team sorted for the 2013 season. When a partial lockout goes into effect, players you have selected from teams involved will be locked into position. You cannot move them, trade them, make change captaincy or emergency options with them, etc. Here’s what you need to know:

PARTIAL LOCKOUT 1 : Friday 22nd March 8:40pm AEDT, Adelaide, Essendon, Fremantle & West Coast players locked. PARTIAL LOCKOUT 2 : Thursday 28th March 7:40pm AEDT, Carlton & Richmond players locked. FULL LOCKOUT : Saturday 30th March 1:40pm AEDT, all remaining players are locked.

DT TALK CHEAT SHEET 2013 - DREAMTEAMTALK.COM AFL FANTASY DREAM TEAM 2013 OUR 2013 ROOKIE RANKINGS We like to structure our teams around what rookies are available at the start of the season and who we think have a decent amount of job security and who will get the job done in fattening up as cash cows over the first few rounds. We don’t have the same amount of rookies ready to go as we did when Gold Coast and GWS Giants came into the competition, so this was a hard task! The defenders and the midfielders look alright, but there isn’t much elsewhere. Here are our top rookies per posi- tion and the order we’d be selecting them in.

CALVIN’S TOP 5 ROOKIE PRICED DEFENDERS 1. - At the age of 29, this mature aged rookie is ready to go. He scored 70 and 63 in his last 2 pre-season games and is easily the best defender rookie to select in 2013. He won the JJ Liston trophy for being the in the VFL back in 2008 and should be starting on your ground.

2. Lewis Stevenson - Back in 2010, Stevenson played 10 games for the tecniqually not making him a rookie this year. After 2 years in the WAFL he was then re-drafted to the Power where he has slotted straight in. He scored an impressive 81 against the Swans in his last practice match and the 23 year old should make the most of his 2nd chance of AFL footy.

3. - Is another mature aged rookie who finds himself cracking the big time at the age of 23 with the Demons. He’s a certain round 1 starter and scored 91 in his last pre-season game.

4. - Was picked up by Richmond at pick #9 in the draft and has been everywhere during the pre-season. The half back flanker has received midfield time and has really taken the most of his opportunities.

5. - Despite having a quiet pre-season, Pittard is a certain round 1 starter for the Power. He's 21 years old and recently smashed out a huge 108 against Sydney in his last pre-season game. His job security is good and al- though he’s ‘rookie priced’ he has played 14 games with Port in 2011/12 to average 56.

WARNIE’S LOOK AT ROOKIE PRICED RUCKS STOP PRESS!! Today we had a gift from the DT gods. Mark Bilcavs ($108,500) was named as a midfielder, but he can now be selected as a MID/RUC. Lock him on your bench! He should be playing round one with all of the Cats ruckmen injuries... who knows how long he’ll stay for, but he’s possibly our best bet here.

At the moment, there aren’t any other rookie rucks we feel safe with. Currently ($102,700) and ($108,500) from North are the two most popular options under $200K. Neither are locked to play. Our mail from inside North Melbourne is that Goldstein will ruck solely with no support. I am still sticking with Currie as a bench ruckman at this stage as he has been fantastic this pre-season and may get an opportunity. Carlton’s ($108,500) is the next most popular but I have huge doubts on him play- ing... he started as sub in Friday night’s NAB Cup Grand Final. I am seriously looking at Setanta O’hAilpin at $157,700 purely for his job security. He is the most likely guy to play out of all of the rucks under $200K. In his last year at Carl- ton he managed to average 74, so he isn’t completely useless - as much as Roy tells me how terrible he is. It’s just that extra cash that might hurt there... with extra trades, we will most likely dump a ruckman if they are injured this year.

DT TALK CHEAT SHEET 2013 - DREAMTEAMTALK.COM AFL FANTASY DREAM TEAM 2013 ROY’S TOP 5 ROOKIE PRICED MIDFIELDERS 1. Jaeger O’Meara - It is no secret that O’Meara is set for a big season and is heavily under- priced at just $108,500. He has been scoring at 73 points per 100 minutes and realistically he was ready to make an impact this time last year. He finished his NAB campaign with an impressive performance vs the Demons to reassure coaches that he is well and truly in the best 22. 2. - Lachie has not appeared in all of the pre season games but when he has been on the park, his output has been so impressive that his inflated rookie price tag is looking more and more like a bargain. Despite costing $183,700 his scoring rate of 105 per 100 minutes of footy indicate that this cash cow is going to get really fat, really quick! In his final NAB hit out he scored a solid 61 vs the Saints. 3. Oliver Wines - Despite his age, Wines $156,700 has added a huge element to the Port midfield, so much so that his position in the team must be almost ‘walkup status’. His job security looks great and the bonus here is that he has the ability to score, pumping out 75 per 100 minutes. In his final NAB game, Wines only managed 46... in the FIRST HALF! Lock and load. 4. Brad Crouch - Despite Crouch being ultra talented and having the advantage of spending a year in the AFL system, I was concerned at the start of the pre season as to whether he could break into the Crows side. During the NAB, he has done his chances no harm, looking right at home at the top level and making a strong push for the best 22. At just 108,500 he has been the Crows 3 rd best scorer per 100 mins played with 89. 5. - Mitchell $119,300 certainly has all the credentials to be number 1 in this category, especially after scoring an impressive 100 vs the Demons. Since then, I have had concerns about a defensive role vs the Eagles which dried up his scoring to just 31 to go with a green vest against the Swans in his final pre season hit out in which he played only 17 minutes! Did I mention he scored 41 in that 17 minutes? He is a must have but his scores will fluctuate depend- ing on his week to week role by the look of it. He was scoring at a rate of 82 points per 100 minutes before that 17 minutes of Power... Pardon the pun.

WARNIE’S TOP 5 ROOKIE PRICED FORWARDS 1. Brent Macaffer – Right from the outset, Collingwood forward Macaffer was going to be on our radar. Through missing all of 2012, he has been given the bargain price of $132,600. We’ve been touching base with our friend and Captain of Collingwood, Nick Maxwell tracking his progress. It all sounds like he is 100% in the Pies line-up for Round 1 and will make us a few dollars while being one of the few forward rookies about. 2. Jonathon Patton – While the former number one draft pick is into his second season, he is still a bargain pick ($183,300 - pretty much what he was priced to begin with last season). He is purely in my 5 here for job security. If you’re willing to throw out some extra dollars on him, then do so knowing he will play most games. Patton has been going at 70 points per 100 minutes over the NAB. 3. Setanta O’hAilpin – Here is where we start scraping. Like Patton, big Sultana has to be a big chance to be playing most weeks. At $157,700 he is basically rookie priced and has played a few of the pre-season matches so he should be ‘available’ for Round 1. With his RUC/FWD status, I am actually more inclined to have him as my first ruck bench option. 4. Tom Lee – Despite being warned off him by a few friends, he has to make the list here... probably an indication of the lack of rookie forwards. But he might be a shot after playing a fair chunk of the pre-season. He hasn’t scored very well at all (I won’t scare you too much with those numbers), but could be a heartbeat. Lee at $108,500 could be a good 8th forward to just have in your side... just don’t expect too much job security or scoring power. 5. – He is skinny, but he has been alright this pre-season for the Power. I just don’t think he’ll get early games after spending some time in the sub vest, something he may need to get used to if he makes the Port Adelaide best 22. He’s purely here to make up numbers in my top 5.

Dave Baker was the overall winner of AFL Dream Team in 2013, taking home the car. We are lucky enough to have his team as part of our Cheat Sheet. He actually purchased last years edition... So this years winner could be you!

This is what he has to say about his team “Skinny Boys” ahead of the 2013 season.

With 44 trades available and far less rookies to choose from, I'd been planning on taking on a lot more mid-pricers this year, with the relatively smaller profits still being worthwhile with all of the extra trades available. However, looking at my squad at the moment I've only ended up with three, mainly because players like LeCras aren't quite as bargain priced as I hoped they would be. Leuenberger was a bargain though and unfortunately we've already seen why but if he is named, he’ll be in for . Ok, I know what you’re thinking… and yes you can just copy this master piece if you want and win yourself the $50K. I would! In the midfield I have loaded up big time with what I like to call “Calvin’s Big Slap Ya in The Face High 5”. Last year I did this and it got me off to a flying start. @RoyDT

ROY’S TEAM: At the moment my team structure is heavily reliant on the availability of Matthew Leuenberger, but after our conversation with during our @DTTALK episode, I am confi- dent enough to have him in there. My newest inclusion to the ruck depart- ment is the newly converted Mark Blicavs who upon being crowned dual position status, also receives a spot on my pine with Daniel Currie. Personally I think Blicavs will see early games from round 1 as my emergency, where I think Currie will have to wait a few weeks to pull on the jumper.

In my backline, I am taking a pretty big risk with 3 rookies on the ground, but I see it as taking advantage of the ma- ture age depth in that position, while also selecting who I think will be the top 3 scoring defenders at seasons end with currently edging Jack Grimes by a nose for that 3 rd spot. My midfield is packing some serious heat which includes the “big two” in there as someone who will be selected every Dane Swan and Gary Ablett. WARNIE’S TEAM:

It has been a massive pre-season for the Warne Dawgs and my team has taken many forms. I’m pretty happy with how it stands ahead of Round 1.

My structure won’t change... Basically that is dictated by where I think rook- ies will come from. As you’ve read through this cheat sheet, the stocks are low in the forward line. I didn’t really want to be playing Macaffer on the ground, but money can only go so far - especially as I’m wanting to go with a pure Guns and Rookies strategy (Karnezis being the only exception). One idea I had in my head was to go with Koby Stevens or Brent Moloney instead of Dangerfield and then play a midpriced forward (Josh Kennedy or Varcoe), sending Tom Lee to never- never land. But having 5 big mids is important, so I’m rolling with that.

Speaking of Tom Lee, that F8 slot could also end up being Viney, depending on venson are locks to play so I’ll keep the might be a bit of a throwaway position, selection).
