“FIRE AT SEA” AND “GYPSY CLOUD” OPEN IT’S ALL TRUE 2016 • First documentary to win the Golden Bear in Berlin opens the festival in São Paulo, on 04/07 • A remarkable generational portrait of poets from Rio de Janeiro during the 70s opens the event in Rio, on 08/04 • The Festival will happen simultaneously in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro until 04/17. The South American premiere of “Fire at Sea” (Fuocoammare), by Gianfranco Rosi, and the world premiere of “The Amazing Artricks of the Gypsy Cloud” (As Incríveis Artimanhas da Nuvem Cigana), by Paola Vieira and Claudio Lobato will be screened at the opening sessions of It’s All True 2016 – 21st International Documentary Film Festival respectively in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. “Fire at Sea” was consecrated last month as the first documentary film to win a Golden Bear, the highest prize at the Berlin Film Festival. Directed by the Italian filmmaker Gianfranco Rosi, already awarded with the Golden Lion at Venice in 2013 for “Sacro GRA”, is a touching radiography of the impact caused by the massive waves of refugees on the daily routine of the little Mediterranean island of Lampedusa, seen through the eyes of the young Samuele. Imovision will distribute “Fire at Sea” to the Brazilian commercial circuit shortly after the festival. Directed by Paola Vieira and Claudio Lobato, “The Amazing Artricks of the Gypsy Cloud” reconstructs the refreshing and liberating force of a collective of poets gathered in Rio’s south zone at the 1970s, during the military dictatorship. Through mimeographed books and hybrid meetings, amongst “happenings” and soirees, dubbed “Artricks”, a new generation paved their way into the national literary scene: Bernardo Vilhena, Chacal, Charles, the director himself Claudio Lobato, Ronaldo Santos, among others. “This year’s festival could not have more captivating openings, for very different styles and reasons” said Amir Labaki, founder and director of It’s All True. “’Fire at Sea’ portraits with amazing delicacy and a remarkable narrative talent the humanitarian refugee crisis in Europe. It is a great honor to premiere it at the opening in São Paulo and we are deeply thankful to Gianfranco Rosi and Jean-Thomas Bernardini from Imovision for this privilege”. “’The Amazing Artricks of the Gypsy Cloud’ on the other hand is a party”, continues Labaki. “Paola Vieira and Claudio Lobato made an amusing and lovely collage film in straight harmony with the spirit of that collective that left its mark on the marginal poetry of the 1970s. The festival is very grateful to them for entrusting the film to our audience in Rio’s opening.” After the opening sessions for guests, both films will be presented in screenings opened to the public in our two host cities.
