The proposed mining area is a forest land of Chhattisgarh Govt. having forest density less than 0.3% and covered with alluvial soil, weathered gneiss rock bearing corundum crystals, under lined by hard granite rock etc. 6 Project Proposal Proposed average rate of production is about 1 tones per year. 7 Name of Mineral mined Corundum 8 Rate of Production (in cubic Based on 250 working days, production meter) per day is about 0.004 tones 9 Mineral Reserve in cubic The estimated geological reserve in the meter area is 22 tones. Mineable reserve is 20 tones 10 Life of mine About 20 years 11 Drilling/ Blasting No drill and blasting proposed for this mining project. 12 Mining method Opencast, semi mechanized method. 13 Ground water table No ground water pollution will be there as intersection the rock or waste/soil dump of this deposit does not contain any harmful ingredients, which could leach down to the water table that is much below the lowest quarrying bench level. 14 Drainage pattern/ water Drainage is controlled by small gullies courses formed due to running rain water along the slope, these gullies area joining the seasonal nallah of the area. 15 Break-up of Land Utilization Total area is 3.70 Ha. Pattern This Govt. Revenue land. Area under excavation is – 1.110 ha 2 | Page PREFEASIBILITY REPORT OF KUCHNUR CORUNDUM MINE, AREA: 3.70 HA 16 Water requirement & Source As much as about 6 KL/D water will be required for quarrying operations including dust suppression along haul road / mine faces, cleaning, washing, drinking as well as plantation. Domestic – 2 KL/D Plantation – 1.5 KL/D Sprinkling – 2.5 KL/D during dry seasons. 17 Solid waste/Tailings Only about 5% waste materials will be generated. This material is nothing but crushed and broken pieces of Corundum. 18 Mining Plan Approval : Date B IJ ( B ST)/CORND/MPLN – 638/NGP Dated – 17/01/2011 19 Cost of project The project is existing one therefore don’t (Rs. INTRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT / BACKGROUND INFORMATION (i) Identification of Project and Project Proponent. Name of the Project: Kuchnur Corundum Mine, Village - Kuchnur, Tehsi l- Bhopalpatnam, District – Bijapur, Chhattisgarh. 3 | Page PREFEASIBILITY REPORT OF KUCHNUR CORUNDUM MINE, AREA: 3.70 HA Project Proponent Proponent of the project is Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation Ltd., Address: Sona Khan Bhawan, 2nd Floor, Ring Road No.1, Purena, Post – Ravi Gram, District – Raipur, Chhattisgarh. (ii) Brief Description of Nature of the Project. The proposed project is an opencast Corundum deposit and is classified as “Category- B2” by Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, New Delhi. (iii) Need for the Project and its importance to the country and or region, Corundum a naturally crystallized oxide of aluminium (Al2O3) is next to diamond in hardness. It is largely used in the manufacture of abrasive material. It is also used in a sintered form in the manufacture of special refractory crucibles. On the basis of use the management is mining the corundum is of two grades. Grade-l:- This is semi-precious pink corundum based on visual appearance and ability to take polish. The size of the semi-precious pebbles ranges from 0.6 to 3 cm. Grade-2:- The industrial variety for use as abrasive and refractory material & for manufacturing various abrasives such as grinding wheels, papers, cloth, mortar, wire-drawing and grinding powder. Because of its melting point it finds use for manufacturing special refractories such as spark plug and crucibles. The mineral will be marketed alter grinding to different mesh sizes for use as abrasive. Corundum produced will be dispatched to the abrasive factory. The mineral from pits is washed to remove adhering soil and pieces are picked out. The produce is graded into semi- precious and industrial varieties baized on visual appearance and ability to take polish. The size of the semi-precious pebbles ranges from 0.6mm to 30mm. The semi-precious material is sold to Ratna 4 | Page PREFEASIBILITY REPORT OF KUCHNUR CORUNDUM MINE, AREA: 3.70 HA Parishkar Kendra (Khadigram Udyog Parishad) and other craft centers located at Jagadalpur. The industrial variety is supplied to various local parties. (iv) Demand Supply Gap The demand of Corundum is huge. The raw Corundum also has market to be used It is also used in a sintered form in the manufacture of special refractory crucibles. To fill up the demand, the Corundum mined out from the quarry lease area will be supplied in the open market in raw form. (v) Demand Supply Analysis In order to have the great demand for Corundum the supply is limited. To fulfill the demand of market the mined out Corundum will be supplied in the market. (vi) Employment Generation (Direct and Indirect) Due to the Project. Un-Skilled labor 25, Skilled labor 3 are employed for loading the mined out Corundum on trucks etc and Mining Mate 1 and Mining Engineer 1 are employed for supervision purpose; maintain the record of production and shipment etc. 3. PROJECT DESCRIPTION 3.1 TOPOGRAPHY The area for which Mining Plan is being prepared is located in the. jurisdiction of village - Kuchnur, District - Bijapur ( Old district Dantewada ) of Chhattisgarh.
