BLANDM-1-GENE………………………………………………………………………………………….25 P a g e 1 | 46 NIRVANA IAS ACADEMY – www.nirvanaias.com NIRVANA IAS ACADEMY INSOLVENCY & BANKRUPTCY AWARENESS PROGRAMME The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India, in association with the three Insolvency Professional Agencies, namely, the Indian Institute of Insolvency Professionals of ICAI (lead partner), the ICSI Institute of Insolvency Professionals, and the Insolvency Professional Agency of Institute of Cost Accountants of India, organized an Insolvency and Bankruptcy Awareness Programme at Vadodara, Gujarat recently. INSOLVENCY & BANKRUPTCY BOARD OF INDIA ▪ The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India was established on 1st October, 2016 under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 (Code). ▪ It is a key pillar of the ecosystem responsible for implementation of the Code that consolidates and amends the laws relating to reorganization and insolvency resolution of corporate persons, partnership firms and individuals in a time bound manner for maximization of the value of assets of such persons, to promote entrepreneurship, availability of credit and balance the interests of all the stakeholders. ▪ It is a unique regulator: regulates a profession as well as processes. ▪ It has regulatory oversight over the Insolvency Professionals, Insolvency Professional Agencies, Insolvency Professional Entities and Information Utilities. ▪ It writes and enforces rules for processes, namely, corporate insolvency resolution, corporate liquidation, individual insolvency resolution and individual bankruptcy under the Code. ▪ It has recently been tasked to promote the development of, and regulate, the working and practices of, insolvency professionals, insolvency professional agencies and information utilities and other institutions, in furtherance of the purposes of the Code. ▪ It has also been designated as the ‘Authority’ under the Companies (Registered Valuers and Valuation Rules), 2017 for regulation and development of the profession of valuers in the country. ▪ It handles the cases using two tribunals like NCLT National company law tribunal) and Debt recovery tribunal. ▪ IBBI will have 10 members, including representatives from the Ministries of Finance and Law, and the Reserve Bank of India. EXERCISE SEA VIGIL Ten years after "26/11" the Indian Navy coordinated the largest coastal defence exercise off the Indian coast on 22-23 Jan 19, Exercise SEA VIGIL. HIGHLIGHTS ▪ The exercise, a first of its kind, is being undertaken along the entire 7516.6 km coastline and Exclusive Economic Zone of India and involves all the 13 coastal States and Union Territories along with all maritime stakeholders, including the fishing and coastal communities. ▪ The exercise is a build up towards the major theatre level tri-service exercise TROPEX [Theatre-level Readiness Operational Exercise] which Indian Navy conducts every two years.
