Zhejiang North–Fuzhou UHV AC Project Key information Route Zhejiang North–Zhejiang South–Fuzhou Developer State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) Length (km) 603 Voltage (kV) 1,000 kV AC Estimated cost CNY18.9 billion Scheduled/Expected completion 2015 Developer: State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC), the larger of the two state-owned transmission utilities in China Description: This 1,000 kV ultra high voltage (UHV) AC project will be built by SGCC and will stretch from North Zhejiang to Fuzhou, passing through South Zhejiang. The total length of the double-circuit transmission line is 603 km. The line will stretch 198 km from Zhejiang North to Zhejiang Central. Then it will run for 123 km from Zhejiang Central to Zhenan and from there to the Fuzhou substation for another 282 km. The project includes expansion of the Huzhou substation (with two new low-voltage shunt reactors) in northern Zhejiang and construction of three new substations (with 2x3,000 MVA capacity)—one each at Jinhua in central Zhejiang, Lishui in southern Zhejiang, and Fuzhou in Fujian province. The entire project is estimated to cost CNY18.9 billion. The project is an important part of the development plan for the East China grid and will help increase the transmission capacity in the region. It will interconnect with the Huainan– Nanjing–Shanghai 1,000 kV UHV project, which is under construction, at the North Zhejiang substation. Contractors: In November 2012, contractors were selected for engineering design and supervision services for the various components of the project. China Power Engineering Consulting Group, North China Power Engineering Company Limited and Tohoku Electric Power are among the many companies that won bids for the various components of the tender. Current status: In October 2012, SGCC was formally given the go-ahead by the National Reform and Development Commission (NRDC) to carry out the design and engineering studies for the project. The tender for project engineering design and survey was launched in October 2012 and the winners (as mentioned above) were announced in November 2012. The design works for the project are expected to begin in late 2012/early 2013. xx Global Transmission Research Scheduled timeline: The project is expected to be completed and energised by October 2015.
