New ‘United in Faith’ mural at Alleman H.S.

Father Daniel Mirabelli, CSV, director of de- velopment at Alleman High School in Rock Island, presided at dedication ceremonies Tuesday afternoon for “United in Faith,” a new mural commissioned by the Alleman Class of 1968. The colorful 14 foot-by-18 foot work of art features school crests from the 1968 era and today on either side of a cross with a dove representing the Holy Spirit. The mural was designed by Sarah Robb, an artist from Davenport, and alumni and students helped paint it over the past five weeks. The public will be able to view the mural when Alleman brings its annual Father Mirabelli Heritage Ball, the school’s largest fundraiser, back to the campus on Saturday, March 28. Along with music, food and unique auction items, The Dream Big Raffle takes place at the Heritage Ball. Only 3,000 shares are sold and the cost for each share is $150. Dream Big shares and tickets to the ball may be pur- chased on the Alleman High School website. At the end of the hourlong arguments, there were no clear answers. The case has a familiar ring because the court struck down a nearly identical law in Texas four years ago, although with a differ- ent bench without Justices Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh. In the Texas case, Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, the court said the requirements imposed on abortion provid- ers — to have hospital admitting privileges — imposed “a sub- stantial burden” on women who were seeking abortions and the law wasn’t necessary to protect women’s health. Chief Justice John Roberts, viewed as a key vote in this case, joined the dissenting opinion in that decision. But last year, he sided with the justices who agreed to stop the Louisiana law from going into effect while its challengers pursued their appeal. 6 | the catholic post SUNDAY, MARCH 15, 2020 — thecatholicpost.com SUNDAY, MARCH 15, 2020 the catholic post | 7 thecatholicpost.com — 8 | around the world the catholic post SUNDAY, MARCH 15, 2020 — This page is sponsored by Father Ted Pracz, a senior priest of the Diocese of Peoria residing in Hoopeston.
