Th E Bells of St. M Ar
GOD IS GOD IS FEBRUARY 2017 Dear Saint Mary's family, We are off to a good start for 2017. As I write this letter we are just three full weeks in to the new year and already so much is happening. We have held our first Annual Meeting together, and the response has been very posi- tive. At that meeting we were able to make amendments to the church’s By-Laws that will allow us to go forward with a smaller eight person Vestry, all of whom were elected unanimously by the members present at the meeting. At our February Vestry meeting we will vote for a Junior Warden, Treasurer, and Secretary. With that accomplished we will begin the process of looking at all of the different aspects of the way we at Saint Mary’s currently do things. The end goal of that process is to identify and eliminate any barriers to growth that might not have been considered, and to find ways to improve upon many of the things we are already doing well. To that end, please begin to pray to see if God may be calling you to participate in any of the ministries that currently exist at Saint Mary’s. This is going to be a fun and exciting time for us to bond and grow together as we seek to strengthen the teams and look at the ways they function. Ushers and Greeters, the Flower and Altar Guilds, Eucharistic Ministers and Visi- tors… Perhaps you have a special talent or hobby that could be used to the Glory of God and you have never considered how. -

The proposal is addressed to all religious leaders and to people around the world to implore God to help humanity overcome the coronavirus (Covid- 19) pandemic. The appeal released on Sat- urday, 2 May, reads: “Our world is facing a great danger that threatens the lives of millions of people around the world due to the growing spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. While we reaffirm the role of medicine and scientific research in fighting this pandemic, we should not forget to seek refuge in God, the All-Creator, as we face such severe crisis. Therefore, we call on all peoples around the world to do good deeds, observe fast, pray, and make devout sup- plications to God Almighty to end this pandemic. Each one from wherever they are and ac- cording to the teachings of their religion, faith, or sect, should im- plore God to lift this pandemic off us and the entire world, to rescue us all from this adversity, to inspire scientists to find a cure that can turn back this disease, and to save the whole world from the health, economic, and human repercussions of this serious pan- demic. -

Cultural Dictionary and Directory
The Cultural Dictionary and Directory Of people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds A resource to increase cultural understanding for service providers and encourage liaison between communities and key multicultural providers in the ACT A project of the Migrant and Refugee Settlement Services of the ACT Inc. With the support of the ACT Office of Multicultural, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs (Community Service Directory – ACT Government) Original publication by Sara Khalidi 1997 Revised and Edited by Fiona McIlroy 2003 Revised and Edited by Hannah Neumayer 2012 Cultural Dictionary & Directory 2012 - Project of the Migrant and Refugee Settlement Services of the ACT Inc. 1 PREFACE TO THE CULTURAL DICTIONARY The wealth of cultural diversity in Australia is arguably one of its major assets. Acknowledgement of difference and acceptance of each person’s unique qualities, as well as their particular blend of cultural influences can assist people to grow in cultural richness and social strength. However more often than not, perceptions and attitudes are based on the limited understandings we currently hold, and we are all prone to prejudice. The key to cultural understanding lies in an open mind. Given the rise in expressions of racist attitudes in recent times, it is more important than ever to remember that general statements about cultural backgrounds can lead to stereotyping. Stereotyping often undervalues individuals and cultures, and can be based on mistaken assumptions. It must be noted that the brief and general descriptions of a culture or country, such as the snapshots in this Cultural Dictionary, should never be applied in a blanket way to any individual or group. -

"I Want to Serve the Order in Continuity with My Predecessor"
"I want to serve the Order in continuity with my predecessor" Exclusive interview with Ambassador Leonardo Visconti of Modrone, the new Governor General of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem Excellency, as you settle into the role of Governor General of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre, what are you innermost sentiments? I have some trepidation, being well aware that this is a very important office within the Church in the service of our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land. Professor Agostino Borromeo has devoted his professional life to the history of the Church and has always viewed his commitment to the Order as an ecclesial mission, so he was very well suited to taking on the responsibility of the Governorship for two terms. We must pay homage to him as he leaves a healthy legacy: we have never had so many members and so many donations. My experience is very different, as I have served my country in the diplomatic service as an ambassador and this has allowed me to establish many important international relations. I trust that this will be useful to our pontifical institution which is universal in dimension. However, I still have a lot to learn from my consoeurs and my confrères, Dames and Knights all over the world, and I count on Agostino Borromeo to accompany me, especially in the first phase of my four-year term. I want to serve the Order in continuity with my predecessor. You mentioned your diplomatic experience. In what way would you see it as being valuable to exercising your new role, alongside the Grand Master, at the head of the Order? Lieutenancies and Magistral Delegations that structure the life of the Order on all continents are somewhat equivalent to embassies for a government. -
St. Gallen, 12. Srpna 2014 Excelence, Situace Křesťanů a Jiných
Liturgy, an "Investigation" Into Cardinal Sarah's Management Gets Underway
VATICAN Liturgy, an "investigation" into Cardinal Sarah's management gets underway ECCLESIA 16-03-2021 Nico Spuntoni Three weeks after Pope Francis's acceptance of Cardinal Robert Sarah's resignation there could be a turning point in the mystery as to why the Prefect's job has been left disturbingly vacant According to information gathered by The Daily Compass, in fact, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments has been ordered to undergo an Apostolic Visitation starting Monday, March 15. This is particularly noteworthy because it is not a diocese nor a religious order that is being investigated but rather a department of Roman curia. This is an investigation whose content and motives are presently unknown. Will it concern the former Guinean prefect’s past management or, rather, will it be directed more generally at the future of the Catholic liturgy? What we do know, for now, is that the Apostolic Visitor will likely be an Italian bishop. It will not be, however, Bishop Vittorio Francesco Viola, who many had picked as the likely successor of Sarah as prefect. According to sources gathered by Oltretevere, in fact, Bishop Claudio Maniago would lead the Apostolic Visitation at the Vatican’s Palace of the Congregations. Maniago, currently Bishop of Castellaneta (Southern Italy), is also President of Italian Bishops’ Conference’s Liturgical Commission. He is a choice, therefore, that would be in continuity with what was seen in the last Consistory: confirming the good times that the Italian episcopate - or at least a part of it – now seems to enjoying during Francis’s pontificate. -

CHRISTIANITY WORLD • POLITICS No2020 24, JOURNAL OF THE CATHOLIC SOCIAL THOUGHT DOI: 10.21697/CSP.2020.24.1.05 DOI: Brian D. Scarnecchia Ave Maria of Law in Naples, USA ORCID: 0000-0003-1399-9303 Why Rights are Wrong in ASEAN and Beyond: A Critique of the Foundations of Universal Human Rights Abstract: The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a battle- ground, one theatre in what Pope Francis has referred to as a “World War” where universal human rights, ersatz rights, and Asian values clash. Its people seek to escape old style Asian dictators while at the same time ward off a new ideological colonisation. Part One of this article provides a brief overview of the development of ASEAN and its human rights mechanisms. Part Two then examines whether the original axiomatic listing of human rights or an iteration of human rights founded upon the human genome or a Kantian underpinning can legitimise human rights and, if not, whether reference to the human soul made in the image of God with its natural law may substantiate the human rights project, perhaps, articulated as congruent with the purpose and design courts now recognise in the natural laws found in every ecosystem of nature. Part Three contends that aspects of the public trust doctrine, i.e., the natural use principle and the precautionary principle, are analogous to natural law principles and, because ‘the book of nature is one”, these environmental law principles may help jurists to recognise a theory of natural law liability in order to promote and defend authentic human rights. -
