In July we visited Townsville where our North Queensland section is cen- tred and there we had a retreat and also a section dinner and meeting which was extremely well attended. The mass was conducted by Archbishop Mi- chael Putney the Bishop of Townsville. In September we had our vigil ceremonies and the following evening the investiture of two Knights, one Dame and a Priest and this was conducted by our Grand Prior Archbishop John Bathersby. The year is coming to a fairly exciting conclusion with five of the Queens- land Lieutenancy travelling to Auckland New Zealand on November 25 for the vigil and investiture of the first Knights and Dames of the New Zealand section of the Lieutenancy of New South Wales. The Assembly of Catholic Professionals was created this year, by the Archdiocese of Brisbane under the patronage of the Archbish- op. The idea of establishing the Assembly of Catholic Professionals was to create a regular opportunity for business people and pro- fessionals to gather as a community, to get to know each other in the context of our lives as Catholics, to discuss issues and trends in the life of the Church, and to get to know clergy members and leaders in the Archdiocese. The Assembly meets quarterly, over lunch. Our growing numbers and the feedback we are receiving is certainly indicating that we are onto something very positive. At each luncheon we have now come to expect an attendance of more than 100 people. We started in March, and recently celebrated our final luncheon for the year in December. At each event, there is an opportunity for networking and to hear from a guest speaker. We have been inspired and entertained by some many wonderful talents this year. In March, Geoff Rodgers, Executive Chairman of communications Awarding the cardinal insignia to our Grand Master consultancy, Rowland, spoke about his life as a Catholic, his in- volvement in the Church, the role and challenges of religion in his January 17, 2012 own family, and the influence that Catholicism has had throughout his life. During his four years leading the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem - years he compared to "a spir- itual retreat"-the order grew significantly in lieutenancies and numbers throughout the world, largely due to his devot- ed commitment to the Church in the Holy Land and his con- stant travel. I will be ever grateful for his words of support and counsel these three brief months since my appointment as Pro-Grand Master of the Order. The Cardinal frequently expressed his gratitude in being able to spend his final months in his beloved Philadelphia and among his brother priests. His love for the priesthood was extraordinary. He faced his impending death with remarka- ble serenity, looking forward in Christian hope to the reward that awaited him in Christ. Though very many of us will miss him, we prayerfully offer him back to God with gratitude for his friendship, his sterling priestly example and his many contributions to the kingdom Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Holy Virgin of God on earth.
