The Revival of Tradition in Indonesian Politics
The Revival of Tradition in Indonesian Politics The Indonesian term adat means ‘custom’ or ‘tradition’, and carries connotations of sedate order and harmony. Yet in recent years it has suddenly become associated with activism, protest and violence. Since the resignation of President Suharto in 1998, diverse indigenous communities and ethnic groups across Indonesia have publicly, vocally, and sometimes violently, demanded the right to implement elements of adat in their home territories. This book investigates the revival of adat in Indonesian politics, identifying its origins, the historical factors that have conditioned it and the reasons for its recent blossoming. The book considers whether the adat revival is a constructive contribution to Indonesia’s new political pluralism or a divisive, dangerous and reactionary force, and examines the implications for the development of democracy, human rights, civility and political stability. It is argued that the current interest in adat is not simply a national offshoot of international discourses on indigenous rights, but also reflects a specifically Indonesian ideological tradition in which land, community and custom provide the normative reference points for political struggles. Whilst campaigns in the name of adat may succeed in redressing injustices with regard to land tenure and helping to preserve local order in troubled times, attempts to create enduring forms of political order based on adat are fraught with dangers. These dangers include the exacerbation of ethnic conflict, the legitimation of social inequality, the denial of individual rights and the diversion of attention away from issues of citizenship, democracy and the rule of law at national level. Overall, this book is a full appraisal of the growing significance of adat in Indonesian politics, and is an important resource for anyone seeking to understand the contemporary Indonesian political landscape. -

STAHN Mpu Kuturan Singaraja Aneka Lovina Villa & Spa, 20th - 21st October 2018 SABHA KUNINGAN CEREMONY IN DESA PAKRAMAN CEMPAGA, KECAMATAN BANJAR, KABUPATEN BULELENG, BALI Ni Luh Ika Windayani STAHN Mpu Kuturan Singaraja E-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT This study aimed at finding out the clarity of the implementation of Sabha Kuningan ceremony which was held for three days in Cempaga village, the clarity of the Sabha Kuningan ritual system for the people in Cempaga village, and the clarity of the Sabha Kuningan cer- emony function for the people in Cempaga village. Method of study was needed in order to get factual answers and ratio. The steps taken were through a direct approach to the respondents and informants who were supported by the library data, documentation which were combined with non-participation observation data. All of this data were analyzed as carefully as possible. In this study, the result showed that there were three things that could answer the problems that exist, namely: (1) Dudonan/ sequence of Sabha Kuningan ceremony was quite a lot so that it could not be held in one day; (2) The ceremony system consisted of three parts, namely the preparation stage, the top ceremony, and pengelemek; (3) Beside having religious functions, the Sabha Kuningan ceremony also had socio-cultural, psychological and economic functions. From the results of this study, the suggestions could be delivered to the people in Cempaga village. They had to keep preserving their customs because they were part of national culture, so that they could carry out the teachings of the Tri Hita Karana concept properly. -

In particular, Wayang Wong focuses on the order of values as well as cultural identity related to the happiness of the Balinese Hindu people. This scientific article discusses (1) Why is Tri Hita Karana the basis for the development of Wayang Wong in millennials?; (2) How does the implementation of Tri Hita Karana influence the development of Wayang Wong as a millennial performance art?; (3) How does the implementation of Tri Hita Karana influence the development of the Wayang Wong strengthen the cultural identity of Bali? This article was compiled based on the results of qualitative research. Data was collected by observation techniques, documentation studies, and in-depth interviews with selected informants including art performers, Wayang Wong millennial spectators, and observers of Balinese culture. Qualitative descriptive analysis was conducted by applying symbol theory and practice theory. The results showed that: (1) Tri Hita Karana was used as the foundation for the development of Wayang Wong for millennials because Tri Hita Karana is a concept of happiness in Bali; (2) The philosophy and values of Tri Hita Karana are implemented in the millennial form of Wayang Wong which reflects the harmony of human relations with God (parahyangan), human relations with humans (pawongan), and human relations with nature (palemahan); (3) The application of the Tri Hita Karana concept in the development of Wayang Wong in millennials can save the sustainability of Wayang Wong performing arts in Bali. -

Where culture and religion are fused, the traditional costume serves one of the most functions in rituals in Bali. This research aims to analyze the charac- teristics of Balinese costumes by focusing on the Legong dance costume. Quantitative re- search was performed using 332 images of Indonesian costumes and 210 images of Balinese ceremonial costumes. Qualitative research was performed by doing field research in Puri Saba, Gianyar and SMKN 3 SUKAWATI(Traditional Art Middle School). The paper illus- trates the influence and structure of Indonesian traditional costume. As the result, focusing on the upper wear costume showed that the ancient era costumes were influenced by animism. They consist of tube(kemben), shawl(syal), corset, dress(terusan), body painting and tattoo, jewelry(perhiasan), and cross. The Modern era, which was shaped by religion, consists of baju kurung(tunic) and kebaya(kaftan). The Balinese costume consists of the costume of participants and the costume of performers. -

Tourist attractions in the Asia Předmět: The Tourist Attractions in the Czech Republic and in the World Geography of Cyprus Cyprus is an island country in the Eastern Mediterranean and the third largest and third most populous island in the Mediterranean. Cyprus is located south of Turkey, west of Syria and Lebanon, northwest of Israel, north of Egypt, and southeast of Greece. A very narrow band of mountains (the Kyrenia) slices across the northern edge of Cyprus. That low range of mountains reaches a maximum of 1,024 m in elevation. In the south and western portions of the island the Troodos Mountains dominate. The highest point on Cyprus, located in the center of the Troodos range, is Mount Olympus at 1,952 m. Rivers are seasonal and only flow after heavy rain, and under those conditions the Pedieos is the longest river in Cyprus. It rises in the Troodos Mountains, flowing northeast through the capital city of Nicosia. It then steers east, meeting the sea at Famagusta Bay. The river has a total length of approximately 100 km. Cyprus has over 100 dams and reservoirs, and all are the island's principal source of water for both agricultural and domestic use. The main tourist attractions in Cyprus There's no shortage of ancient sites in Cyprus but Kourion is the pick of the bunch. Romantically situated across a coastal cliff with tumbling views of the countryside and Mediterranean below, it's a magical place. The entire site is vast, but the most famous section is the theater and the House of Eustolios, which holds a clutch of fine, well-preserved mosaics. -

Apart from becoming a cultural product, it also functions as a social cohesion as it involves a significant number of dancers who are children, women, elderly people and the homemakers who become the members of an organisation known referred to as PKK (Family Welfare Education). They interact with one another. The growth and development of the dance have been used as the icon of every Hindu religious activity in Bali, and also as an icon of different social activities. The question is why the Rejang Renteng dance has developed more rapidly than the other dance forms. This current study is also intended to answer different matters on the Rejang Renteng dance, which cannot be separated from the dynamics of the development of the Balinese society which is changing in the current globalisation era. It is also intended to explore the shift in its meaning, function and, which has taken place from the beginning until the current times. The current study was conducted at Masceti Temple Gianyar, Karangasem and Denpasar. The qualitative method, especially the observation, interview and documentary techniques, were applied to collect the data. -

Terdapat tiga klasifikasi tari Bali yaitu tari wali (sakral), tari bebali (upacara), dan tari balih-balihan (hiburan). Dari ketiga klasifikasi tari, akan diteliti dua klasifikasi yaitu tari wali (sakral) dan tari balih-balihan (hiburan). Pada tari wali (sakral) yang dikaji adalah tari Rejang Dewa, tari Rejang Renteng, dan tari Rejang Sari. Pada tari balih-balihan (hiburan) yang dikaji adalah tari Puspanjali, tari Pendet, dan tari Sekar Jagat. Fokus penelitian terletak pada gerakan tari dari unsur pemeson, pengawak, pengecet, dan pekaad. Dalam tari Bali terdapat unsur matematika yaitu basis bilangan dan transformasi geometri yang diimplementasikan pada gerakan tari. Setelah diteliti ditemukan pola umum dalam masing-masing tarian dan pola khusus dalam klasifikasi tari Bali (tari wali dan tari balih-balihan). Jika dibandingkan pola umum dari klasifikasi tari Bali tidak ditemukan pola yang sama, karena masing- masing tari memiliki ciri khas yang berbeda tergantung dari pencipta tarian tersebut. Untuk gerakan tari terdapat unsur refleksi (pencerminan) pada agem kanan dan kiri tari Pendet, agem kanan dan kiri tari Puspanjali, ngayab kanan dan kiri tari Rejang Dewa, diagonal kanan dan kiri pada tari Rejang Dewa. Kata kunci : Etnomatematika, tari Bali, basis bilangan, transformasi geometri. -

The Balinese have been readily praised for their ability to borrow whatever foreign influence suits them while nevertheless maintaining their identity over the centuries. Today, there is no dearth of observers to claim that the Balinese have adjusted to the tourist invasion of their island just as in the past—taking advantage of the appeal of their cultural traditions to foreign visitors without sacrificing their own values on the altar of monetary profit.
