Relative to and observing the & Southern Tagalog Association's (BASTA) Thirtieth (30th) Anniversary Induction Ball Celebration and to recognizing and thanking the association for its contributions to the island community and the "old country" of the and to commending and congratulating the Associations incoming officers and Board Members for 2007.

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF I MINA'BENTE NUEBE NA LIHESLATURAN GuAHAN: BE IT RESOLVED BY THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF I MINA 'BENTE NUEBE NA LIHESLATURAN GuAHAN: WHEREAS, the Batangas and Southern Tagalog Association (BASTA), Guam Chapter, originally the Batangas Association, was organized and formally chartered 29 years ago on July 16, 1977, by founding fathers Eddie Espina, Rey Gonzalves, Marcy Manipol and Ronnie Saludo in a meeting at the ITC Building in Tamuning; and WHEREAS, from its inception, the Association embraced and conveyed a spirit of community engagement and inclusion by incorporating the Southern Tagalog Association to accommodate members from the Southern Tagalog provinces; and WHEREAS, BASTA has earned the distinction of helping in community projects by donating to various charitable institutions and in reaching out to victims of calamities; and

WHEREAS, today, BASTA boasts a membei::~hip of over two hundred members, natives of Batangas, and the Southern Tagalog with some 11 provinces within its fold including the mainland provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Marinduque, Aurora, Quezon, Mindoro, and Palawan, and island provinces of Mindoro Occidental, Mindoro Oriental, Marinduque, and Romblon,; and WHEREAS, the home provinces of the membership of BASTA have strong historical heritages and are among the most noteworthy of historical landmarks of the Philippines with heroe() like Jose Rizal of Laguna, Emilio Aguinaldo of Cavite, Felipe and Marcela Agoncillo, Miguel Malvar, Gliceria Marella, Galicano Apacible, Sotero Lauret and Jose P. Laurel all of Batangas, Manuel L. Quezon and Claro M. Recto both of Quezon and belonging to a more recent time, illustrious leader Eulogio Rodriquez of Rizal, Lorenzo Tomada of Quezon and of Batangas; whose works paved the way for Filipino citizens to experience liberty and freedom; and WHEREAS, through the years BASTA has contributed to a variety of worthy causes on Guam such as Lytico & Bodig, American Red Cross, Catholic Social Services, make-A-Wish Foundation, Alee Shelter, American Cancer Society, among others; and WHEREAS, constant in the BASTA mantra is its benevolence towards

their root and heritage of the old country, the association regularly contributes to fund drives spawned from calamities such as the Philippine Earthquake Relief Fund, Mt. Pinatubo Relief efforts and assist typhoon and lahar victims, as well, the organization regularly extends itself in civic undertakings; and WHEREAS, the association endeavors to extend the Mabuhay spirit with

the unique Hafa Adai warmth of hospitality towards island residents and visitors alike, whether it be visiting basketbal.l players, models, actors and actresses, government officials or politicians, cheer is abound within the group when hosting or helping a fellow citizen; and WHEREAS, the group has consistently maintained their pledge to ensure the Mabini Historical Marker at Asan Point is well maintained, host a Walkathon

at Ypao Beach and spread holiday cheer during the Christmas season offering hearty carols in the villages and at venues around the island; and WHEREAS, BASTA members have grown with the island community and contribute to the island as capitalists and entrepreneurs generating jobs and helping with the economic growth of Guam, and help with ensuring a steady workforce of bright and skilled persons filling the pools of our professional ranks

as educators, nurses, engineers, architects, bankers and other professionals and have lent their expertise through their skilled labor and industriousness; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, that the Executive Committee of I Mina Bente Nuebi Na Liheslaturan Guahan does hereby, on behalf of the people of Guam, join in recognizing the Batangas & Southern Tagalog Association (BASTA) on the

. . ' occasion of their Thirtieth 30th Anniversary' commemoration and Induction Ball celebration; and be it further

RESOLVED, that the Executive Committee of I Mina Bente Nuebi Na Liheslaturan Guahan does hereby, on behalf of the people of Guam commend and thank the association and outgoing officers and board members of BASTA for their many years of contributions to the island community and the "old country" of the Philippines, and; be it further
