Maharshi Dayanand University realizes sustainable and holistic waste management essential in reducing its environmental footprint and providing a safe and healthy work environment for teaching and non-teaching employees, students, and visitors. The environmental sustainability management (ESM) cell has been established to recognize and solve the problems arising from human impact on the campus environment, which retroacts onto human society by having a negative impact on human values such as good health or the 'clean and green' environment. Environmental sustainability management cell was established in 2018 with a mission to build an environmentally sustainable society through pursuit of teaching research and extension activities. This national conference on “Global Climate Change: Concerns and Solutions” is a perfect platform for environmentalists, researchers, scientists, decision makers and students to come together, compare findings, and discuss the science of the future. Its purpose is to draw attention towards adverse effects of global warming. It aims at developing solutions for a sustainable future that could withstand the impacts of climate change. Global environment challenges such as global warming, ozone layer depletion and green house effects have posed a serious threat to the existence of mankind. With this fear engulfing everyone, environmental sustainability has become the talk of every environmental and political forum. I extend my hearty welcome to the invited distinguish speakers and the young aspirants to this two days national conference on “Global Climate Change: Concerns and Solutions''. Fitzmaurice Abstract India and Nigeria are developing countries that are already suffering from the negative effects of climate change. Both countries have huge agricultural sectors that are vital to their economies. India has the second largest farm output in the world. In Nigeria, 70 percent of its population is employed in the agricultural sector. This article compares and contrasts how climate change is affecting the essential food production in both India and Nigeria and the efforts each country is taking to minimize the negative effects of climate change. I. Introduction India and Nigeria are developing countries in which agriculture is a staple of their economies. Both countries are highly vulnerable to climate change effects such as higher temperatures and extreme variations in precipitation, which will have drastic effects on their economies and the livelihoods of their citizens. The agricultural sector in both India and Nigeria absorbs a significant portion of their labor forces and still constitutes a considerable share of their gross domestic product (GDP). A large portion of those employed in the agricultural sector live below the international poverty line ($1.25 per day in PPP), and therefore the effects of climate change will have a serious impact on the daily lives of these individuals. With the effects of climate change worsening, India and Nigeria are anticipating declines in crop production and value, increased imports, increased debt, and ultimately a decline in GDP and a decrease in the livelihoods of the citizens of these countries.

Developing countries, however, have argued that any international agreement must be based on historic and per capita carbon emissions, with developed countries responsible for reducing their emissions first and funding mitigation and adaptation in other countries. Recently, however, several scholars have argued that Indian government climate change discourses are shifting, primarily by recognizing the “co-benefits” of an alignment between its development and climate change objectives, and by displaying increasing “flexibility” on mitigation targets. This study investigates the factors driving shifting Indian discourses of climate change by conducting and analyzing 25 inter- views of Indian climate policy elites, including scientists, energy policy experts, leading government officials, journalists, business leaders, and advocates, in addition to analysis of articles published in Economic and Political Weekly (a prominent Indian policy journal), and reports published by the government and other agencies.
