2018 Program Guide Thanking Mayor William Samaras and the Mayor’s Holiday Fest Planning Committee and all the generous sponsors for helping end youth homelessness in our community! from all the Staff and Students at CTI’s YouthBuild of Greater Lowell Program 155 Merrimack Street, Lowell MA 01852 978.459.0551, www.commteam.org #LowellYouthHousing A Message from Mayor Bill Samaras and Karen Frederick, CEO, CTI Youth homelessness is a persistent problem in the City of Lowell. Community Teamwork estimates that there are over 100 young people in Lowell each year who are experiencing homelessness for a variety of reasons including family conflict and abuse, sexual identity, pregnancy, addiction or mental health issues, contact with the juvenile justice system or aging out of foster care. To help combat this issue and to provide support to these young people in our community, Mayor Bill Samaras is continuing the fundraising effort started last year and we hope that you will join with us to help make it a success once again! All proceeds from the event will be donated to Community Teamwork and their efforts as the lead agency for the Merrimack Valley Youth Consortium that works to prevent youth homelessness. This program has been working with teens to help them reunite with their families or find safe affordable housing on their own. In many cases, it is simply a matter of helping a young person with a security deposit or to clear up past debts that can save them from spending years couch surfing, sleeping in their cars or in places not fit for human habitation. Thank you for your support., Mayor William Samaras Karen Frederick City of Lowell CEO, Community Teamwork Thanks to our Lineup Emily Desmond Kevin Wall Take Two Marsha Macres & Friends/Jazz Punishers Mickey Kanan & George Bisson Whisky Duo John Powida Love Train Peter Lavender Nico Rivers and The Black Grass Bradley Copper Kettle & Friends blindspot FunRazrs LINEUP ORDER SUBJECT TO CHANGE blindspot blindspot is a female-fronted alternative rock band from Boston,. PERFORMED IDENTITIES: HEAVY METAL MUSICIANS BETWEEN 1984 AND 1991 Bradley C. Klypchak A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY May 2007 Committee: Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown, Advisor Dr. John Makay Graduate Faculty Representative Dr. Ron E. Shields Dr. Don McQuarie © 2007 Bradley C. Klypchak All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Dr. Jeffrey A. Brown, Advisor Between 1984 and 1991, heavy metal became one of the most publicly popular and commercially successful rock music subgenres. The focus of this dissertation is to explore the following research questions: How did the subculture of heavy metal music between 1984 and 1991 evolve and what meanings can be derived from this ongoing process? How did the contextual circumstances surrounding heavy metal music during this period impact the performative choices exhibited by artists, and from a position of retrospection, what lasting significance does this particular era of heavy metal merit today? A textual analysis of metal- related materials fostered the development of themes relating to the selective choices made and performances enacted by metal artists. These themes were then considered in terms of gender, sexuality, race, and age constructions as well as the ongoing negotiations of the metal artist within multiple performative realms. Occurring at the juncture of art and commerce, heavy metal music is a purposeful construction. Metal musicians made performative choices for serving particular aims, be it fame, wealth, or art. These same individuals worked within a greater system of influence. Metal bands were the contracted employees of record labels whose own corporate aims needed to be recognized.

  • Comment Submitted by Ben Jones, Torrentfreak
Comments submitted to FTC DRM Town Hall – Comment, Project No. P094502 February 2009 Page 1/5 TorrentFreak.com DRM Town Hall – Comment, Project No. P094502 Summary The intent of Digital Rights Management (or DRM) is for the originator of the work, to attempt to control the ways in which the work can be used, after sale or license. Most often, these take the form of copy restrictions, but can include restrictions in other ways. Ultimately, DRM is an all-or-none measure, that seeks to control, without reference to context. A backup copy is allowed in many jurisdictions, while copying for the purposes of copyright infringement is not. However, both will be restricted by DRM. Many audio disc copy protection systems (which are DRM) utilise bad sectors to cause faults when copying is attempted, but which can also regular playback in some devices. Other methods might include using computer autoplay systems to install software to prevent copying, but which can leave systems vulnerable to malicious code. It is thus gratifying that the Federal Trade Commission sees fit to consider the impact on consumers of DRM, and we welcome the opportunity to highlight, for the commission, our experiences of DRM, and it's impact on consumers. We have split this response by category of media, to reflect the differing methods and approaches used in each sector of industry. Films Standard DVDs contain two forms of DRM; region coding, and Content Scrambling System (CSS). The former is used to limit the geographical regions where such discs can be played, the latter attempts to prevent copying.

Everybody is Talking About the Good Ole Days: RZA on the Soul of Music by Ericka Blount Danois If hip-hop tours, white appropriation, anniversary celebrations, books and hip-hop documentaries aren’t an indication that hip-hop has reached the status of Beatles-style nostalgia and reverence, then releasing a Wu-Tang Clan 20th anniversary reunion album, A BetterTomorrow, is solid proof that the genre has officially arrived. RZA, always the heart of the operation, worked tirelessly to round up the troops and dissolve beefs for the reunion album that dropped Dec. 2, 2014. “I wanted to make a record that pays homage to soul music and hip-hop,” he said about the making of this album. “I went to the past to make something for the future.” RZA came out of his own pockets to fund the album to the tune of half a million dollars. Some of the best in the industry are featured on the album—Rick Rubin, Adrian Younge, David Porter, Kenny Gamble and Rob Cavallo, all had their hands in the pot. Wu-Tang has always done things big and with vision. RZA led the 9-member group to an unprecedented label deal where each member was able to launch solo records. The deal allowed them to become the most revolutionary rap group of the mid-’90s releasing five group and 19 compilation albums totaling over 6 platinum records and over 40 million sold.
