STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION ON READINGS ACTS 1: 1-11; PS 47: 2-3, 6-9; EPH 1: 17-23; MK 16: 15- 20 We often cite ’ quote from today’s of Mark: “Go into the whole world and proclaim to every creature.” This was not a suggestion from the Lord. It was quite frankly a command, and it is one which still holds for each of us. Being an evangelist, being a , being a steward is not a matter of choice for those of us who are and Christian. It is something the Lord expects of us. Often we may like to spend time debating how to do that, but that does not lessen the fact that it is something we are supposed to do. We need to acknowledge that even the original and followers of Jesus did not do that immediately. We learn that they stayed in Jerusalem for some time, and it seemed to be only when the Church and its followers were persecuted that they began to reach out and truly share the “Good News.” Once accepted that charge from the Lord, they did indeed take the Word of God to all corners of the earth. Look at the Church today. It is incredible how this Church has grown from one Man/God and a small group into what it is today. That does not, however, get us “off the hook.” As much as we may argue about how to carry out this command from Jesus, the fact remains that our very lives need to stand as a representation of what it means to be a Christian, what it means to “love one another,” what it means to live and to work as a disciple of .

3) The Apostolate of Friendship Theological Statement: The possibility of community that springs from faith is different from that of every club, every political party, whichever side one may choose. Here, too, we might attempt an examination of conscience with regard to the Church of the present. Today, when natural communities have broken up and the walls of isolation have become higher and higher, human beings seek and need community more than ever before. The Church must reflect again on the possibility that she has the answer; she must learn to offer men the experience of community, to make them open to community. Precisely here lies her potential for making men joyful… –Ratzinger, Principles of , p. 83

i. Do we challenge our parishioners to bring family members and friends to church events?

ii. How can we best integrate individuals and families coming back to the Church and the parish family?

iii. Do we offer and encourage formation/classes to help families and friends reach out to those who have turned away or have never been exposed to the Gospel? Apologetics?

St. Gabriel the Archangel 5 Colorado Springs, CO Blessing of Mothers During the season of Easter, what a great time to remember our mothers and ask for God's blessing on them. It is God who ultimately gave us life. It is through God's unselfish love--mirrored in our mothers' willingness to associate their love with God's and take the risk to love us into life--that we have the opportunity for life. We remember our mothers this Mother's Day with much love. Let us pray for each of them:

God our heavenly Father, you give to each the ability to share your generative love. Bless those women in our lives who mirror your love and bring forth life through their willingness to risk bringing new life into this world. Help us to show them our gratitude for the gift of life and the gift of a mother's love. May our life-giving God continue to bless them and show them his unfailing love. We ask this through Jesus, God's Son and our brother. Amen.
