ABSTRACT WHAT IF YOU’RE LONELY: JESSICA STORIES by Michael Stoneberg This novel-in-stories follows Jessica through the difficulties of her early twenties to her mid- thirties. During this period of her life she struggles with loneliness and depression, attempting to find some form of meaningful connection through digital technologies as much as face-to-face interaction, coming to grips with a non-normative sexuality, finding and losing her first love and dealing with the resultant constant pull of this person on her psyche, and finally trying to find who in fact she, Jessica, really is, what version of herself is at her core. The picture of her early adulthood is drawn impressionistically, through various modes and styles of narration and points of view, as well as through found texts, focusing on preludes and aftermaths and asking the reader to intuit and imagine the spaces between. It's a Wonderful Life Final Script Opening sequence/George saves Harry FADE IN –– NIGHT SEQUENCE Series of shots of various streets and buildings in the town of Bedford Falls, somewhere in New York State. The streets are deserted, and snow is falling. It is Christmas Eve. Over the above scenes we hear voices praying: GOWER'S VOICE I owe everything to George Bailey. Help him, dear Father. MARTINI'S VOICE Joseph, Jesus and Mary. Help my friend Mr. Bailey. MRS. BAILEY'S VOICE Help my son George tonight. BERT'S VOICE He never thinks about himself, God; that's why he's in trouble. ERNIE'S VOICE George is a good guy. Give him a break, God. MARY'S VOICE I love him, dear Lord. Watch over him tonight. JANIE'S VOICE Please, God. Something's the matter with Daddy. ZUZU'S VOICE Please bring Daddy back. CAMERA PULLS UP from the Bailey home and travels up through the sky until it is above the falling snow and moving slowly toward a firmament full of stars. As the camera stops we hear the following heavenly voices talking, and as each voice is heard, one of the stars twinkles brightly: FRANKLIN'S VOICE Hello, Joseph, trouble? JOSEPH'S VOICE Looks like we'll have to send someone down –– a lot of people are asking for help for a man named George Bailey. FRANKLIN'S VOICE George Bailey. Yes, tonight's his crucial night. You're right, we'll have to send someone down immediately. Whose turn is it? JOSEPH'S VOICE That's why I came to see you, sir. -

We went in to eat shortly after the last goodbye to the city of N.Y. Now I see why they say the French Line is known for its food. There is a menu, but this just tells you the names of all you eat. Starting with hors d'oeuvres, you go on down through soup, fish, main dish, salad (eggs back a bit), cheese, pastry, coffee, and fruit (to eat between meals). I'm determined to get to like the coffee, but as of now, it bears a strange resemblance (the ship rolled more than usual) to turpentine. We spent most of the afternoon sunning ourselves on the deck chairs. Got myself a burn. We don't eat dinner till 8:30-- and finish about 10:15! Considering that we must put our watches ahead every night, this is rather late. Spent a while on deck after dinner. Perfectly beautiful star filled sky. Hooded coat great! Slept well. Felt like the ship was a big cradle, rocking me to sleep. -

"You Really Got Me": A Complete Charting Odyssey- How The Kinks Blew The Doors Off the British Invasion Against Fierce Competition And Scored Their First U.S. Hit Mark Teehan May 2016 Introduction As a powerful, iconic record, "You Really Got Me" both saved and launched the Kinks' illustrious career. As a musical statement, it was the embodiment of so many forces and emotions: rage, defiance, rebellion, perseverance, and survival. Most of all, it marked the culmination of a monumental struggle by the band to have the song recorded in a manner so that it sounded as they envisioned- original and reflective of their working-class roots, the way it did in their live concerts. Musically, "You Really Got Me" represented a dichotomy of sorts: its controlled, monolithic bass-heavy, strong percussive sound was built around a monster riff that stood in sharp contrast to the wild abandon and distorted, gritty tone of Dave Davies' unique, memorable guitar solo. This essay will initially set the stage by summarizing the creation of "You Really Got Me," its recording, its sonic characteristics, and progress on the UK charts. Afterwards, we will shift to the article's primary focus of analyzing the complex charting of the Kinks' landmark record in the U.S. Using the extensive array of surviving local radio station music surveys from pivotal markets across America, this writer will analyze the intricate connection between those local surveys and the national charts as they affected "You Really Got Me". Furthermore, in order to provide valuable insight into the American pop music industry of the mid-60's and a broader perspective into the commercial progress of the Kinks' record in the U.S., this writer will cover on a secondary basis the charting of another single from a rival British group.
