BRISTOL 401 PININ FARINA BRISTOL 401 PININ FARINA With mischievous help from Frazer Nash and a dose of Italian mastery, this Bristol 401 was taken to the pinnacle of contemporary style. When a tour guide mentioned to Henry Ford that a keen young Italian kept coming back for more, he couldn’t resist meeting the foreigner and inviting him to lunch. Once he saw Battista’s coachwork design sketches spread out on the restaurant tablecloth, Ford wasted no time in offering the 27- year old a job as his chief designer. After all, as the young man explained, he’d worked in his brother’s coachbuilding company since age just 12, propelled from fetcher of espresso to de facto chief designer by his own drive and intuitive skills. It may seem a giant leap from the sepia days of the Model T to this urbane Bristol 401 cabriolet, whose lines were probably drawn by one of Pinin Farina’s unnamed disciples, supervised by the pint-size design genius.

  • The Tradsheet
The Tradsheet Founded 1967 Ignore the weather outside, it will soon be show season. Newsletter of the Traditional Car Club of Doncaster February/March 2020 1 Editorial, My first two main items will come as no surprise. The AGM is called for the 12th February at the Burghwallis, our nor mal club venue. It is the chance for all members and joint members to look at the accounts, elect the committee and have your say on how the club is running or what you would like the club to be doing. Obviously, you can make suggestions throughout the year but the AGM can vote and make club decisions. The Agenda and minutes of the last meeting start at page 5 and include a form for you to nominate whoever you like for the committee. You can copy the form if you like but must be given to the Chairperson before the start of the AGM please to comply with the rules. Renew your membership. A simple glance around the r oom on a club night shows a happy bunch of people chatting and enjoying the evening in the warm when it is dark, cold and wet outside. Classics may be tucked away safely but members still meet up because we like it. Never think that we are a sun- ny day only club. Getting those forms and subs in means that the committee can spend more time or- ganising things to do and less chasing you up. Thanks to all who have sent theirs in already, there will be membership cards in this envelope for those who we have not seen yet at club night.
