Esta información ha ido siendo acumulada con datos ajenos y propios en muchos años de docencia e investigación en la unidad de Geología de la Universidad de Málaga. Con Geología Regional: el territorio de la provincia de Málaga en el ámbito de la cordillera Bética hemos intentado sintetizar este fondo de información, recogiendo las aportaciones esenciales de muchos de estos trabajos. Aunque el propio título especifica que trata de la provincia de Málaga, los límites provinciales no constituyen una barrera infranqueable. Las unidades geológicas que constituyen el territorio de la provincia se extienden mucho más allá y son parte esencial de la cordillera Bética. Incluso, para su mejor comprensión, muchas veces es necesario extender los comentarios y las observaciones fuera de estos límites. Así pues, este libro pretende dar una visión general, pero actual, del nivel de conocimiento sobre la cordillera Bética, contemplando hipótesis sobre concepciones paleogeográficas y ambientales de los dominios sedimentarios, modelos tectónicos y temporalidad de fenómenos.
