Uporaba vodnih poti in vodne športne aktivnosti imajo v tem prostoru že dolgoletno tradicijo, a smiselne ureditve celotnega področja do sedaj še ni bilo. Področje barjanskega dela Ljubljanice je danes strogo varovano z naravovarstvenega in zgodovinskega vidika in Ljubljanica predstavlja naravno vrednoto državnega pomena. Do vstopa v mesto Ljubljana reka nudi bogato naravno pestrost, v mestnem delu je z nje mogoče opazovati urejeno urbano okolje. Znotraj kajakaštva so predstavljene možnosti razvoja v različnih vidikih športa. Key words: Ljubljanica, water sports, canoeing, urban planning RIVER BASIN OF LJUBLJANICA AS A SPORTS CENTER Gregor Brovinsky Abstract The river basin of the Ljubljanica River holds rich natural and historic value. This value invites people with different needs and wants. The waterways were used here since prehistoric time and water sports are present in this area with long tradition, but there was no specific arrangement for the whole area. Sport activities were mostly competition oriented and were done locally concentrated in Municipality of Ljubljana. In the last few years, one can see that more people are interested in water sport activities as well as recreational and school sports. Today, water sports mostly take place on the Ljubljanica River, however, other rivers in basin are appropriate too. The area of Ljubljanica marshes is strictly protected as a natural and cultural environment and Ljubljanica itself is a natural value on the national level. All the way until Ljubljanica enters the city of Ljubljana, River offers great biodiversity. In the city, there is another urban aspect of Ljubljanica River. The River is less accessible in the urban area of the Municipality of Ljubljana and, behind the dams that regulate the water in the city, its potential is not realized. This thesis will present the urban planning around the Ljubljanica River basin. This development process will be based on the potential that rivers have to offer. At the same time, long-term aspect of environmental use will be considered. From water sport disciplines that have been done on Ljubljanica river in the past it seems that canoeing has the longest tradition and is most appropriate for this area. With canoeing there will be presented possibilities for development of Ljubljanica basin as a sports center in all aspects of sport. Quaestiones Geographicae 36(3), Bogucki Wydawnictwo Naukowe, Poznań, pp. 37–50. 7 figs, 1 table. aBsTracT: The city of Ljubljana lies at the intersection of various geomorphological regions that have strongly influ- enced its spatial organization. Prehistoric settlements were built on marshland, a Roman town was built on the first river terrace of the Ljubljanica River, and in the Middle Ages a town was built in a strategic position between the Lju- bljanica River and Castle Hill. The modern city absorbed all usable space between the nearby hills. This paper reviews some relief features in Ljubljana, their influence on the city’s spatial development, and urban geoheritage. The results indicate new possibilities for urban geoheritage tourism in the Slovenian capital and its surroundings. At a large lake in the marshes near the source of the Ljubljanica they stopped and disassembled their ship to be able to carry it to the Adriatic Sea, put it together again, and return to Greece. The lake was the dwelling place of a monster, which Jason fought, defeated and killed. The monster, now referred to as the Ljubljana Dragon, found its place atop the castle tower depicted on the Ljubljana coat of arms.

Measurement, modelling and analysis of hydrological and hydrogeological processes and trends in a marsh area BRANKA BRACIC ZELEZNIK1 & LIDIJA GLOBEVNIK2 1 Public Water Utility JP VODOVOD-KANALIZACIJA d.o.o., Vodovodna cesta 90, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia [email protected] 2 University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy, Jamova cesta 12, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia Abstract The marshy area of Ljubljana Moor, extending from the southern part of Ljubljana city to Krim- Mokrc karstic mountains, is a large plain area with a mosaic of meadows, fields, ditches and copses of alders spread out over 160 km2, originating some two million years ago through the sinking of an extensive area of the Ljubljana basin. The sedimentation basin of Ljubljana Moor is filled in the central part with lacustrine and marshy sediments and on the borders of the basin are the gravel fans. It is an area of different interests and the water, surface and groundwater, have a crucial role in specific land use. It is an important drinking water resource, it is an agricultural area, an area of Natura 2000 and Natural Park area with high biodiversity and an area for urban development. Established groundwater level measurements and surface water level and discharge measurements are important data for analysing trends of hydrological and hydrogeological characteristics of the area in input for modelling of surface and groundwater flow and their interactions at flood events and during drought.
