The campus is at a distance of approximately 80 km from the Ahmedabad airport and approximately 50 km from the Vadodara airport. Private and pre-paid taxis can be hired from both airports to reach the campus. Anand town is well connected by rail and road. A large number of trains ply between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, which halt at Anand. The campus is at a distance of 4 km from the Anand railway station. Buses ply regularly from Vadodara, Ahmedabad and Mumbai to Anand. Stay with Us It would be our privilege to host your representative(s) and provide all the necessary assistance to make their stay at IRMA comfortable when they visit the campus for the Placement process. After about two years of rigorous academic and field assignments under the well-qualified and competent faculties, these students are now ready to be launched as rural management professionals. As you may be aware, Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) was set-up in 1979 by the ‘Father of the White Revolution’ Dr Verghese Kurien to nurture and develop a cadre of rural management professionals to serve producer institutions and other developmental organizations. IRMA uses a rigorous, nationwide selection process to identify potential candidates having basic aptitude and motivation to work for the development of the rural sector. It gives me immense pleasure to mention that, over the past 39 years, IRMA has nurtured more than 3000 professionals who are making valuable contribution in meeting the goals of the organizations they are working for. It is indeed satisfying to note that these IRMA alumni are imbibed with the values and ethos which are required to serve the rural households with empathy. It is indeed a privilege to invite you to have interaction with some of India’s finest and committed young women and men who are equipped with the knowledge, skills and aptitude to contribute to creation of rural wealth and nation building. I am sure that you will find many of them quite suited and qualified to help you in fulfilling the vision and mission of your organization. Shri Dilip Rath, Chairman, IRMA 4 Institute of Rural Management Anand Director’s Message IRMA was set up by Dr. Verghese Kurien in the year 1979 with an aim to create a new generation of barefoot managers who would usher in modern management to serve the rural and the underserved economy. Since then, 3150 IRMA graduates have contributed immensely to the mission of IRMA across every sector of the economy. Students at IRMA receive a management education unparalleled elsewhere, learning from the best and leading to fulfilling careers while making a socio-economic impact to millions of lives. No other business school in the world has been able to inspire young minds - with changing aspirations year after year – to serve people in the rural space, as IRMA. Through its flagship program, the Post Graduate Diploma in Rural Management (PGDRM), IRMA has not only germinated the concept of quality education in rural management and development, but actively fostered it. It is our continuing endeavour to keep abreast of the challenges and opportunities in the world of business, governance, and civil society while creating leaders and change-makers for a better tomorrow. The PGDRM is a course with a unique curriculum. It not only offers high quality courses through its classroom terms, but also distinct segments that focus on experiential learning through the innovative Village Fieldwork Segment (VFS) and the Summer Internship Segment (SIS). The addition of two full terms of elective courses makes the classroom learning all the more enriching. It gives me great pleasure in introducing to you the highly competent students of the batch of PGDRM 2018-20. I’m sure that you will be able to find the talent you’re looking for from this diverse and vibrant batch and that they will be the torch-bearers of your organizations for years to come. Bhatt, Director, IRMA PLACEMENT BROCHURE 2018-20 5 “You have chosen the road less travelled by, to work with those who need your services rather than opting for jobs, which would fetch you rewards, but I must warn you that you will face disillusionment and opposition at every step. I urge you to face every day with courage, patience and humility. If you persevere, you will make a difference to the rural masses and it is this difference upon which the future of our nation rests,” said Dr. Kurien to one of the graduating batches at IRMA. Let us take you through the journey of IRMA regarding who we are, how we started, and where we are headed. “You cannot raise princes in a pigsty” was the retort from Dr. Kurien when questioned how people trained in the world class infrastructure of IRMA could possibly work in villages. This vision gave shape to the sprawling 60 acres campus on which IRMA stands today. The lush green campus of IRMA is situated at Anand - alongside the founding institutions NDDB and GCMMF. The towering Chimes, the grey walls, the winding paths and the green lawns bespeak the legend and his mastery.

The project include Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (RLIS) taken up by the Andhra Pradesh government, and the hydel power generation projects taken up by the Telangana government. Historical Background about the dispute over Krishna River A dispute over the sharing of Krishna waters has been ongoing for many decades, beginning with the erstwhile Hyderabad and Mysore states, and later continuing between the successors Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The first Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal (KWDT) was set up in 1969, under the Inter- State River Water Dispute Act, 1956. The report divided the 2060 TMC (thousand million cubic feet) of Krishna water at 75% dependability into three parts amongst Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Afterward, as new grievances arose between the three states, the second KWDT was instituted in 2004. It delivered its report in 2010, which made allocations of the Krishna water at 65% dependability into three parts.

AGRICULTURE In INDIA – RETROSPECT and FUTURE PROSPECTS Introduction • India is blessed with 20 agri-climatic regions, 15 major climates and 46 soil types, and an amazing variety of agricultural products largely consumed at domestic level. • Around 54.6% of the total workforce still derives its sustenance through direct/indirect employment in agriculture as per the latest census report. • Lack of assured education, unavailability of fertilisers and pesticides held back productivity. While India achieved food security, nutritional security remains elusive. Achievement of Food Security • Productivity – The research of 1950s and 60s on the development of High-Yielding Varieties (HYV), the application of fertilisers and pesticides, etc. has ensured that by 2019 the yields of rice and wheat have respectively increased to 2659 kg/ha and 3507 KG/HA. As a result, the per capita net availability of food-grains has increased from 394.9 g per day in 1951 to 512.6 g per day in 2020. This is impressive given that our population too has quadrupled since Independence. Provision of formal credit has played an enabling role in this. The total production of food grains went up from around 51 million tonnes in 1950–51 to 305 million tonnes in 2020–21. Operation Flood launched in 1970 through the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), has made India the largest producer of milk in the world (19% of the world’s total milk production in 2019 –20). The Green Revolution in cotton production in early 2000s, Blue Revolution in Fisheries, Yellow Revolution in edible oil are other examples. • Agricultural Marketing - Being a State Subject, State Governments enacted Agricultural Produce Market Regulations (APMR) Acts during the 60s and 70s whereby agricultural produce could only be bought by licensed and registered traders in these markets.
