    El aguante en una barra brava: apuntes para la construcción de su identidad1 Aguante in a barra brava – Some notes on building its own identity John Alexander Castro-Lozano2 Resumen Este trabajo es el resultado de la investigación realizada entre el segundo semestre de 2010 y el primero de 2012 con un grupo de hinchas organizados de Millonarios F.C., lo que comúnmente se conoce como barra brava. Aquí se presenta una revisión bibliográfica sobre la producción teórica en torno a grupos organizados de hinchas del fútbol. Asimismo, se explica cómo acercarse y estar presente con la barra. También se exponen los hallazgos obtenidos a través de la descripción y la participación, técnicas particulares de la etnografía. Finalmente, se reflexiona a partir delaguante , una noción propia del grupo seleccionado y la manera como éste se convierte en un elemento constructor de identidad. Abstract This paper presents the results of a research carried out between the second semester of 2010 and the first one of 2012 within a fan group of Millonarios FC, commonly known as “barra brava”. There is a literature review on theoretical issues about football fans. The paper also explains how to join and interact into a fans’ group. In addition, findings obtained by means of the description and involvement into the fans‘group, are presented through particular ethnography technique. Finally, some reflections are made about “aguante”, a concept built within the selected group and how this concept has become an element to build identity. Wie kann es sein, dass die Mannschaft nach einer starken Leistung gegen Bayern so lustlos in die Spiele gegen Köln und Hoffenheim geht? Überheblichkeit? Meint man, diese Vereine im Vorbeigehen schlagen zu können? Ist die Krise also ein Kopfproblem? Alles Fragen, die wir nicht beantworten können.

That is, the analysis of discursive practices is part of a broader and more complex analytic framework, articulating the questions by the underlying violence and discrimination. In order to get even deeper into the identity construction of River Plate fans, it is necessary to review the most significant discussions and developments around the studies related to the construction of soccer identities: how identities of these subjects are constituted, perceived and self-perceived, noticing the social behavior allowed and paying attention to the use of violence as a legitimate / illegitimate practice, developed in the previous chapter.

Koonings Abstract In the heart of the Buenos Aires neighbourhood La Boca, resides football club Boca Juniors. This club has one of the most infamous and feared group of supporters in the world: La Doce. In Europe La Doce would be compared to a group of hooligans, but in reality they are very different from hooligans. It is an organized crime group that has its roots in the La Boca, but over the years the connection to the neighbourhood grew thin. They also have some things in common with Latin American youth gangs. Although members of La Doce see themselves as hooligans, residents and non-residents of La Boca, a marginalized immigrant neighbourhood, identify La Doce as a mafia. Residents do not identify La Doce with La Boca anymore, because most members of La Doce do no longer live in the neighbourhood. Non-residents do identify La Doce with La Boca because they have some characteristics that they share. These characteristics are mainly based on prejudices coming from stigmatization, especially in the case of the neighbourhood. The self-image of La Doce differs from the way residents and non-residents identify them, but these differences are very relatable to each other.

ABSTRACT The increasing presence of supporter groups, or organized fan groups driven by diverse cultural practices, of the Colorado Rapids has resulted in a non-traditional American spectator experience for some fans at games and is an area suitable for sociological study due to gaps in the body of literature. Using Giulianotti and Robertson’s (2007) theory of glocalization as a lens, this thesis examines the forces that are influencing the supporter groups. This study investigates the effect of the forces of globalization on the supporter groups of the Colorado Rapids. Qualitative methods and in-depth interviews were used to obtain information about these processes. This study found three forces simultaneously competing with one another in an effort to become the cultural norm for spectators at Colorado Rapids games.
