The taxon cerberus Daniel, 1939 is raised to specific rank. Dyspessa aurora, sp. n. Голотип, >, Azerbaidshan, Talysh, Aurora, 12 km S Lenkoran, 350 m, 27.08–12.09.1992 (MWM). Description. Fore wing length 9–11 mm. Fore wing light-brown with a contrasted white pattern. Сostal margin with a narrow lighter border, area at outer margin white, postdiscal area with a small irregular white spot in radial zone and a broad white stroke between M3 и CuA2; M-Cu cell completely occupied with a large white, below it there is an irregular white area extending from middle of hind margin to tornal angle. Hind wing dark-brown, patternless. Male genitalia. Uncus triangular with a pointed beak-like curved apex; tegumen broad; gnathos arms large, lancet-like; gnathos badly formed; valvae narrow, lancet-like, with weakly sclerotised apices, their costal margin with rather semicircular projection with a weakly dentate margin at the point of junction of sclerotised and membranous parts. Arms of transtilla with broad bases and raised pointed apices, disposed at valva costal margin. Juxta small, with short oval lateral processes. Saccus small, semicircular. Aedeagus shorter than valva, thick, strongly bent at middle; opening of vesica occupies dorso-apical position, comprises about one third of aedeagus length; vesica without cornuti. Female unknown. Diagnosis. Most close to Dyspessa cerberus Daniel, 1939, stat. n. (type locality: Taurus, Marasch [S Turkey]), from which well differs by a contrasted pattern, a dark fore wing ground colour, a thicker aedeagus. more rounded valva apex, wider bases of the arms of transtilla. Dyspessa cerberus Daniel, 1939, described as a subspecies of Dyspessa pallidata Staudinger, 1892 (the type locality Amasia: «Hadjin, Marasch und Kara Hissar» [Turkey]) is in fact a good species, that is evidenced by: 1) sympatric occurrence of both taxa; 2) different wing pattern; 3) different shape of the processus on the valva costal margin. Dyspessa zurvan, sp. n. Голотип, >, Iran, prov. West Azerbaidzan, 5 km E Hoy, 1020 m, 26.04.2000, leg. Szabo & Hentschel (MWM). Description. Fore wing length 10–11 mm. Fore wing relatively narrow, grey-brown with a light pattern; there is quite intensive suffusion of light scales. M-Cu cell and median area with broad white brands stressed with light-brown shadows. Cilia chequered, dark at veins and light between them. Hind wing brown, patternless, with light-brown cilia. Male genitalia. Uncus wide, triangular with a pointed beak-like curved apex; tegumen small; gnathos arms browd, ribbon-like; gnathos badly formed; valvae broad, relatively short, with weakly sclerotised distal ends and rounded apices, their costal margin with a weakly expressed projection with an uneven weakly dentate margin at the point of junction of sclerotised and membranous parts. Arms of transtilla with very broad bases and pointed apices, disposed at valva base. Juxta small, with short oval lateral processes. Saccus small, semicircular. Aedeagus somewhat shorter than valva,

The Palaearctic frontier was delimited to the Arabian Peninsula (the eastern and northern parts of Arabia are attributed to the Palaearctic Region; Yemen, southwestern Saudi Arabia, and southernmost Iran belong to the Afro- tropical Region). Cossidae are highly endemic to arid areas. Some Palaearctic carpenter-moth genera penetrate to Africa southward of the Sahara Desert (an important characteristic distinguishing them from most of the other Lepidoptera). The local faunas of the Palaearctic deserts are united into 4 groups: the Sahara–Arabian–Southern- Iranian, Central-Asian–Kazakhstanian, Western-Gobian, and Eastern-Gobian. In the Eastern Gobi Desert, the fauna is the most specific; it should be considered as a separate zoogeographical subregion. E-mail: [email protected] Submitted: 12.05.2017. Accepted: 21.07.2017 The article gives a detailed illustrated redescription of the rare little-known species, Dyspessa wiltshirei Daniel, 1938, including description of the male genital structure which is presented for the first time. The differences of this species from its closely related species are also provided. Keywords: Cossidae, Carpenter-Moths, Dyspessa wiltshirei. Introduction Carpenter moths (Lepidoptera, Cossidae) of the Middle East are relatively poorly studied and there is still difficulties in identifying many species of this region. The species of the genus Dyspessa Hübner, [1820] 1816 (type species − Phalena pantherina Hübner, 1790, by subsequent designation by Kirby (1892)) are among the most difficult taxa to identify. The Palaearctic Region with more than 70 known Dyspessa species is the richest region in this regard; however, the specific status of several species occurring in this area have not clearly been resolved (Yakovlev, 2011). Most of the species of the genus are found in desert, semi-desert and mountainous areas of the southwestern Palaearctic (Yakovlev & Dubatolov, 2013a, b; Yakovlev, 2015) and many species are local endemics.

Some cannot be differentiated at any life stage. Over the past decade, DNA barcoding has gained increasing adoption as a tool to both identify known species and to reveal cryptic taxa. Although there has not been a focused effort to develop a barcode library for them, reference sequences are now available for 77% of the 409 species of arthropods documented on major pest databases. Aside from developing the reference library needed to guide specimen identifications, past barcode studies have revealed that a significant fraction of arthropod pests are a complex of allied taxa.

1955 The Lepidopterists' News 83 RECENT LITERATURE ON LEPIDOPTERA (Under the supervision of PETER F. BELLINGER) Under this heading are included abstracts of papers and books of interest to lepidop terists. The world's literature is searched systematically, and it is intended that every work on Lepidoptera published after 1946 will be noticed here; omissions of papers more than 3 or 4 years old should be called to Dr. BELLINGER'S attention. New genera and higher categories are shown in CAPITALS, with types in parentheses; new species and subspecies are noted, with type localities if given in print. Larval foodplants are usually listed. Critical comments by abstractors may be made. Papers of only local interest and papers from The Lepidopterists' News are listed without abstract. Readers, particularly outside of North America, interested in assisting with this very large task, are invited to write Dr. BELLINGER (University College of the West Indies, Mona, St. Andrew, Jamaica, B.W.I.). ROMANOV (ROMANOFF, 1885); 1 © Entomofauna Ansfelden/Austria; download unter www.biologiezentrum.at they included some data on Cossidae. In this remarkable work, ROMANOV mentioned 10 cossid species for Transcaucasia, including 4 reported for Georgia. Further preliminary data on Cossidae of Georgia were already published by the first author in several papers (DIDMANIDZE, 1975, 1976, 1978, 1980; DIDMANIDZE & ZURASHVILI, 1981). Data on Cossidae of Abhasia were published by E. S. MILYANOVSKY (1964). A monographic work on Lepidoptera of arid landscapes of Georgia (DIDMANIDZE, 1978) contains data on life history and distribution of Cossidae, two of which were not identified to species, while the remaining 8 species were identified as follows: Cossus cossus L., Cossus terebra F., Zeuzera pyrina L., Catopta thrips Hb., Catopta caestrum caucasica Gr.-Gr., Dyspessa ulula Bkh., Dyspessa salicicola Ev., Dyspessa alpherakyi Chr.
