Jänner 2007 Cossidae (Lepidoptera) of Georgia DIDMANIDZE, Eteri A. & YAKOVLEV, Roman V. Abstract An annotated list of Cossidae of Georgia is for the first time given which includes 14 species. Zusammenfassung Erstmals wird eine kommentierte Liste der Cossidae von Georgien veröffentlicht, die 14 Arten umfasst. Introduction The first contributions to the systematic and faunistic knowledge on Lepidoptera of Transcaucasia were published by the Grand Duke N. M. ROMANOV (ROMANOFF, 1885); 1 © Entomofauna Ansfelden/Austria; download unter www.biologiezentrum.at they included some data on Cossidae. In this remarkable work, ROMANOV mentioned 10 cossid species for Transcaucasia, including 4 reported for Georgia. Further preliminary data on Cossidae of Georgia were already published by the first author in several papers (DIDMANIDZE, 1975, 1976, 1978, 1980; DIDMANIDZE & ZURASHVILI, 1981). Data on Cossidae of Abhasia were published by E. S. MILYANOVSKY (1964). A monographic work on Lepidoptera of arid landscapes of Georgia (DIDMANIDZE, 1978) contains data on life history and distribution of Cossidae, two of which were not identified to species, while the remaining 8 species were identified as follows: Cossus cossus L., Cossus terebra F., Zeuzera pyrina L., Catopta thrips Hb., Catopta caestrum caucasica Gr.-Gr., Dyspessa ulula Bkh., Dyspessa salicicola Ev., Dyspessa alpherakyi Chr. As a result of the treatment of all existing data from the literature and the collections of Museum Thomas WITT (Munich, Germany), Simon Janashia Museum of Georgia (Tbilisi), Zoological Institute of Science, Academy of Russian Federation (Saint-Petersburg, Russia), Zoological Museum of Kiev National University (the Ukraine), and Zoological Museum of Moscow State University (Russia), we compiled a checklist of 14 Cossidae of Georgia which pretends to be exhaustive. Yakovlev. Carpenter moths (Lepidoptera: Cossidae) of Russia. SUMMARY. In this article the catalogue of Cossidae of Russia is presented. An annotated list including 32 species has been compiled. Two new species and two new subspecies: Catopta albonubila argunica, ssp. n. (Locus typicus: East Trasbaicalia, Kuenga, 45 km SW. Sretensk), Catopta perunovi, sp. n. (Locus typicus: Russia, Altai Rep., near Ongudai), Cossus cossus dauricus, ssp. n. (Locus typicus: Russia Transbaikalia, Chita Province, Nizhnii Tsasutchei), Phragmataecia pacifica, sp. n. (Locus typicus: Russia, Dagestan, 5 km E. Urma) are described. Besides, a new species from S. Mongolia Catopta saldaitisi, sp. n. (Locus typicus: S. Mongolia, Omnogovi Aimak, the Gobi Altai Mts., Gurvan Sayhan) is described. For each species bibliography and distribution map are given.

The records are from the principal institutional and private collections of Michigan moths and continue the documented listing of Lepidoptera in the region. ____________________ Emmet and Cheboygan counties share the northern tip of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, the former bordered on the west by Lake Michigan and the latter, on the east by Lake Huron.

The average amounts of Z5 – 12:OH, Z5 – 12:Ac, and Z5 – 14:Ac in a single sex pheromone gland of a calling moth were (7.14 ± 0.73) ng, (54.20 ± 0.34) ng, and (38.70 ± 0.46) ng, re- spectively. Electroantennography (EAG) of these compounds and their analogues demon- strated that Z5 – 12:Ac excitated the largest male EAG response, followed by Z5 – 14:Ac. Traps baited with rubber septa impregnated with Z5 – 12:Ac (500 μg/septum) and Z5 – 14:Ac (300 μg/septum) were more effective than traps with other baits or virgin females. Addition of Z5 – 12:OH to rubber septa did not enhance the trap catches, but (E,Z)-3,5-dodecadienyl acetate (E3,Z5 – 12:Ac) enhanced the trap catch.

V. Dubatolov aAltai State University, Barnaul, 656049 Russia e-mail: [email protected] bInstitute of Animal Systematics and Ecology, Siberian Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences, Novosibirsk, 630091 Russia e-mail: [email protected] Received September 6, 2012 Abstract—Specific features of the carpenter-moths (Cossidae) distribution in the Palaearctic deserts are consid- ered. The Palaearctic frontier was delimited to the Arabian Peninsula (the eastern and northern parts of Arabia are attributed to the Palaearctic Region; Yemen, southwestern Saudi Arabia, and southernmost Iran belong to the Afro- tropical Region). Cossidae are highly endemic to arid areas. Some Palaearctic carpenter-moth genera penetrate to Africa southward of the Sahara Desert (an important characteristic distinguishing them from most of the other Lepidoptera). The local faunas of the Palaearctic deserts are united into 4 groups: the Sahara–Arabian–Southern- Iranian, Central-Asian–Kazakhstanian, Western-Gobian, and Eastern-Gobian. In the Eastern Gobi Desert, the fauna is the most specific; it should be considered as a separate zoogeographical subregion. SandersI ABSTRACT From May to September each year from 1960 through 1968, a collection of Lepidoptera was made at Black Sturgeon Lake, northwestern Ontario, from speci mens captured in a light trap and from specimens netted during the day. A total of 564 species was recorded from 70 families. A list of the species with dates of capture is presented. From 1960 through 1968, a 15-watt black-light trap was operated each year at a Forestry Canada field station at Black Sturgeon Lake, northwestern Ontario.

  • Butterflies and Moths (Insecta: Lepidoptera) of the Lokrum Island, Southern Dalmatia

Nat. Croat., Vol. 29, No. 2, 227-240, 2020, Zagreb. In 2016 and 2017 a survey of the butterflies and moth fauna of the island of Lokrum, Dubrovnik was carried out. A total of 208 species were recorded, which, together with 15 species from the literature, raised the total number of known species to 223. The results of our survey can be used as a baseline for the study of future changes in the Lepidoptera composition on the island. In comparison with the lit- erature records, eight butterfly species can be regarded as extinct from the island. The most probable reason for extinction is the degradation of the grassland habitats due to the natural succession as well as the introduction of the European Rabbit and Indian Peafowl. Their presence has probably had a tremendously detrimental effect on the native flora and fauna of the island. To conserve the Lepidop- tera fauna of the island, and the still remaining biodiversity, immediate eradication of these introduced species is needed.
