Saturday, August 5 The Minute to Win It Block Party will feature Minute To Win It themed games for all ages. Not only will there be games for all, but there will be opportunities for people of all age groups to compete in age appropriate tournaments to see who will be the Minute to Win It champions of our neighborhood. There will also be free food, bounce houses, yard games, and face painting! We hope you can make it to the Minute to Win It Block Party, Saturday, August 5 from 11am-1pm. FLYIN’ PANCAKES The school of Missionary Aviation Technology is hosting a fundraiser “Flyin’ Pancakes” on Saturday, July 22 from 7:30-10:30am. There will be a pancake breakfast, helicopter rides, hot air balloon launch, aircraft fly-in and vintage planes. Pastors Paragraph When I traveled to Jackson, Mississippi last weekend to help my dad see his brother, we took time to drive through the neighborhood where we grew up. It has been 46 years since we lived there so we expected some changes. But we were shocked to turn onto our street and it looked like a war zone. The houses were not just in disrepair, but some of them were boarded up. Bushes and trees were overgrown, junk was all over the yards, and the atmosphere was almost dangerous. As I thought about that neighborhood, I thought about how life must be for those people. It has to be depressing, discouraging, and hopeless! How can the church bring hope to a neighborhood like that? We have some areas like that around our city. What hope can we give? As we talked, my dad said that the only hope is to help individuals discover the love of Jesus and in that find hope. As more and more find that love, hope can be restored to the community. That is our goal here at Pennway. That is our hope for the families we are touching. We want to give hope. Jeremiah writes about the children of Israel while they are in exile and gives us the whole book of his Lamentations concerning that situation. Right in the middle of this book of Lamentations we find this statement: “I remember my affliction and my wandering … and my soul is downcast within me. Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness!” I don’t know what you might be facing right now, but no matter how bad things might seem, call this to mind like Jeremiah did. His compassions will never fail! They are new every morning. His faithfulness is great! In His Service, Pastor John Vacation Bible School 2017 VBS was such a success! We had a fantastic week learning more about the God of the universe and what it means to have a relationship with Jesus! We had 95 different kids come throughout the week and 67 of those kids came every single night! We loved getting to know all of these wonderful kids. We have an amazing church that is so giving and supportive! Thank you to all 53 volunteers who gave so much time, love and help for VBS! Thank you to those that financially supported VBS, and thank you to those who took time to keep VBS in your prayers. VBS would not have been possible without any of you. You are appreciated! In addition, the homeroom parent or group leader should confirm that there are no students with latex allergies before playing any of the balloon games. Most of the ideas will work best for grades 3-5, but there are some that can be used with the younger children. I have designated with an * the ones that should be suitable for all grades. IDEAS *Coin Tossing: Use chalk to draw a line several feet from the wall. In groups of 3 or 4, students take turns standing behind the line and tossing a coin, poker chip or similar object towards the wall. The player whose coin is closest to the wall when all have been tossed is the winner. Coin Catching: Quarters probably work best for this. The first player balances one coin on her elbow, drops her hand quickly, and tries to catch the coin before it hits the ground. Each player attempts the same and those who cannot do it are eliminated. In the next round, a second coin is stacked on the first and so on… Up the Ladder: On a piece of paper, draw a ladder with 7 or more rungs. Write “Finish” above the top rung. Players take turns making 3 marks in the empty spaces between the rungs of the ladder. The first player’s mark is an X and the second player uses O.

Each person will start with the Oreo on their forehead and will try to move the cookie down to their mouth. They must do this without touching the Oreo and the cookie must remain in contact with their face. First person to successfully do this wins. Supplies: 1 cookies per group People: 1 Pencil Flip – This game requires one member from each team. Each person will start with one pencil on the back of their hand. They must flip the pencil up and then catch it. Then you will add one more pencil and do the same process all the way up to ten pencils. You must catch all the pencils in order to add another. First one to complete the task wins. Supplies: 10 pencils per group People: 1 Elephant Walk – This game requires one member from each team. The person competing will put the pantyhose overtop of their head. In the pantyhose there will a baseball in one of the legs. There will be six (or more) water bottles on each side of the competitor. Swinging their head, and without touching the pantyhose competitors must knock over all the water bottles. Supplies: 1 pair of panty hose and one baseball per group People: 1 Chocolate Unicorn – This game requires one member from each team. Each person must stack seven zebra cakes or Ding Dongs on top of their forehead one on top of another with one hand.

    MINUTE TO WIN IT With these games you have a MINUTE to WIN it! Most games have a link attached to the title to watch a video guide on how the game works. FACE THE COOKIE Place a cookie on someone’s forehead. They have to use only their face muscles (no hands) to get it into their mouth. Supplies Needed: Oreo Cookies DEFYING GRAVITY Give each player three balloons. They have to keep all three balloons up in the air for a minute. Supplies Needed- 3 (or more) balloons BABY RATTLE Fill one 2-liter bottle with something (Lucky Charms, Jelly Beans, etc.) then tape to another 2-liter bottle – players have to transfer all from one bottle to the other. Supplies Needed- x2 2-liter bottles (empty), a filling of your choice SHAKE IT UP Tape an empty Kleenex box to a pair of pantyhose, fill with ping pong balls, then tape around someone’s waist. They have to shake until all the balls fall out. Supplies Needed- Empty Kleenex box, Ping Pong balls DIZZY MUMMY A two-player game where one person has to wrap the other person in streamers, toilet paper, or something else. Supplies Needed- Streamers IRON MAN Use a chopstick to stack iron nuts on top of each other Supplies needed- Iron nuts, Chopstick CHOOSING CUPS Set out 25 cups, filling all of them partway with water. Put a sticker on the bottom of some of the cups. Players have to pick one cup at a time, trying to find a sticker.     Activities Guidebook How-to Sheet: Minute to Win It Party Minute to Win It was a popular primetime game show that was initially seen on NBC and has since transitioned to the programming lineup on Game Show Network. Contestants try to complete a series of ten 60-second tasks, with each task increasing in difficulty. A contestant has three opportunities to complete a task prior to time expiring. He or she is eliminated after three failed attempts at a single task. If a player completes all ten tasks, he or she wins $1 million. There are many ways in which Minute to Win It could be played. You could use the same format as the TV show. Place all attendees’ names in a bucket and draw one name to see who will play. All other attendees would act as the audience until the player is eliminated, at which time another name would be drawn. If you would like to get more people involved in participating in the tasks, you could have head-to-head competition, team challenges, or set up several tasks at “stations” through which all participants can rotate. The materials necessary to play the games are, for the most part, simple household items that can be easily found. These items include pencils, paper grocery bags, ping pong balls (multiple colors required for some games), rubber bands, disposable cups and balloons, as well as many others. You will also need some type of timing device with a second hand or a digital device that counts seconds.   • Minute to Win It Outline
    Minute to Win It Outline Class Length: Class size: Class Location: 1 hour 30 minutes Up to 75 participants • Auditorium • Outside/Lodge Materials: “See last page of write up” Class Set-up: Prepare tables and “60 second circle” with team cones spread out outside of circle. Organize materials for selected program order. Meet group outside to arrange into teams if not already, 3-6 teams no more than 10 participants per team designated to a cone. Decide which staff will be emcee and who will be time keeper. Introduction: (5 - 10 minutes) Welcome the group, introduce yourself and point out their team cones and the “60 second circle”. Give a brief synopsis of what is going to be happening. Choose an easy “get quiet” technique and practice it. Explain the process of activity description, choosing your team participants, being invited into the “60 second circle”, and competing fairly with team encouragement. Teach them to help with the “3,2,1, GO” to start and helping you do the final 10 second countdown. Activity 1: (60 minutes) Duet Head Banger Wheel of a Deal Catch Your Cookie Move that Egg Ping Pong Bounce Defying Gravity Backflip Cupstacking Bubble Hoops Oral Balance Conclusion: (5 minutes) A basic wrap-up of who won the glory and bragging rights as best marble roller or fastest pencil bouncer. Class Tear-Down: All materials must be neatly gathered back into the totes. Any materials that were inadvertently damaged need to be replaced in the totes from the supply box. If supplies are running low notify the Cultural Coordinator or the Program Manager.
