Not content to stay stagnate, our Club Racing program continues to evolve. In 2011, we began the BFGoodrich Tires SCCA Super Tour program. With the help of our partner, BFGoodrich Tires, the series expanded to nine events for 2012, and included one special event in each division. These race weekends featured elements that aren’t always available at National Races, adding to the competitors’ experi- ence. We also unveiled the Majors program in the middle part of the coun- try this season, giving racers in the Rocky Mountain, Midwest and Southwest Divisions an opportunity to run for a larger championship without having to travel the country. -

Gabby Chaves and Ryan Norman Scored Hyundai's Fourth Straight Victory and BHA's First Win in an Endurance Race Sunday
Chaves and Norman give BHA, Hyundai’s fourth straight IMSA victory Braselton, GA - Gabby Chaves and Ryan Norman scored Hyundai's fourth straight victory and BHA's first win in an endurance race Sunday. They took the checkered flag after 4 hours of action-packed racing in the sizzling heat at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. Teammates Parker Chase and Spencer Brockman finished second in the #29 Vertical Bridge Hyundai Veloster N TCR, while the #98 of Michael Lewis and Mason Filippi finished fifth. Pole winners Harry Gottsacker and Mark Wilkins finished ninth. Doubling the race distance doubles the challenges, but also makes victory more rewarding. "It's a great win for the team and for Hyundai," said Bryan Herta. "It was a tough race. Longer races always present more opportunities for challenges and we had some with the #98 and #21 cars. The team fought hard to be there at the end, and we walked away strengthening Hyundai's lead in the manufacturers’ championship." The #33 Hyundai Veloster N TCR started fourth with "Flyin' Ryan Norman" behind the wheel. Norman has led every race in 2020, and continued that streak at Road Atlanta prior to turning the bright red Veloster over to co-driver Gabby Chaves for the final two hours. Fuel consumption was the name of the game for everyone in the final hour. Chaves and his engineers were tasked with either hoping for a yellow flag or exercising fuel saving measures while retaining the lead to finish the race without an extra stop. They strategized diligently and Chaves drove a phenomenal race. -

Dear SCCA Media Partners, Welcome to what is truly a new era of the Sports Car Club of America, as the SCCA National Champi- onship Runoffs heads west for the first time in 46 years to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. This event, made possible with the help of our friends and partners at Mazda and the Sports Car Rac- ing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP), was met with questions at its announcement that have been answered in a big way, with more than 530 drivers on the entry list and a rejunvenaton of the west coast program all season long. While we haven’t been west of the Rockies since River- side International Raceway in 1968, it’s hard to believe it will be that long before we return again. The question on everyone’s mind, even more than usual, is who is going to win? Are there hidden gems on the west coast who may be making their first Runoffs appearance that will make a name for themselves on the national stage, or will the traditional contenders learn a new track quickly enough to hold their titles? My guess is that we’ll see some of each. -

Michelin Performs in Road America Extremes
PRESS INFORMATION MICHELIN PERFORMS IN ROAD AMERICA EXTREMES Elkhart Lake, Wis. (August 2, 2020) – Michelin plans to kick off August with a product launch promoting its wide range of tires for different applications and conditions. The IMSA races at Road America this weekend offered a sneak preview of that variety. “Here in Wisconsin and the nearby states with the many farms, trucks, construction and heavy equipment makers, motorcycles, aircrafts and cyclists, we are reminded that “performance” means different things to different people,” said Tony Ménard, director of motorsport, Michelin North America. “We speak about the importance of Michelin tire performance in a range of conditions for each application. Our Michelin customers and consumers look to us to provide the best options, and we race to learn about performance at the extremes and today we certainly had some extreme conditions. It is a pity that the weather changed everything and we want to congratulate the drivers who were able to keep racing in difficult circumstances. “Today, we broke some records on a clear and relatively hot racetrack, then had an absolute deluge, including hail, that stopped the race. When the race resumed, our teams in all classes worked hard to maximize their wet weather tires on track,” Ménard said. The historic 4.048-mile, 14-turn circuit in the Kettle Moraine region features several major elevation change each lap, which resulted in deep pools of water in the runoffs and lower elevation areas. Weather Affects WeatherTech Race Again The key to victory in Sunday’s IMSA WeatherTech Championship race, then, was switching from the MICHELIN® Pilot® GT Sport slick to wet weather tires at the right time to handle the treacherous track conditions.
