Gabby Chaves and Ryan Norman Scored Hyundai's Fourth Straight Victory and BHA's First Win in an Endurance Race Sunday
Chaves and Norman give BHA, Hyundai’s fourth straight IMSA victory Braselton, GA - Gabby Chaves and Ryan Norman scored Hyundai's fourth straight victory and BHA's first win in an endurance race Sunday. They took the checkered flag after 4 hours of action-packed racing in the sizzling heat at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. Teammates Parker Chase and Spencer Brockman finished second in the #29 Vertical Bridge Hyundai Veloster N TCR, while the #98 of Michael Lewis and Mason Filippi finished fifth. Pole winners Harry Gottsacker and Mark Wilkins finished ninth. Doubling the race distance doubles the challenges, but also makes victory more rewarding. "It's a great win for the team and for Hyundai," said Bryan Herta. "It was a tough race. Longer races always present more opportunities for challenges and we had some with the #98 and #21 cars. The team fought hard to be there at the end, and we walked away strengthening Hyundai's lead in the manufacturers’ championship." The #33 Hyundai Veloster N TCR started fourth with "Flyin' Ryan Norman" behind the wheel. Norman has led every race in 2020, and continued that streak at Road Atlanta prior to turning the bright red Veloster over to co-driver Gabby Chaves for the final two hours. Fuel consumption was the name of the game for everyone in the final hour. Chaves and his engineers were tasked with either hoping for a yellow flag or exercising fuel saving measures while retaining the lead to finish the race without an extra stop. They strategized diligently and Chaves drove a phenomenal race.

(May 31, 2011) – Team Pelfrey made history on Memorial Day weekend (May 28), scoring a one-two finish in Round Three of the Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear at Lucas Oil Raceway. Connor De Phillippi and Nick Andries not only gave the Florida- based squad a win and a runner-up finish at the famed Night Before the 500 event, but also led the way in every official session, setting a new mark for excellence in the highly-competitive junior formula car series. Given Team Pelfrey’s history at the most prestigious oval race in the world…the Indianapolis 500, combined with the team having already scored a win in 2011 (Round One in St. Petersburg), the stage was set for the two-car team to challenge for top honors when the Star Mazda series traveled to Indiana for the first oval race of the season. Setting the stage for what would ultimately be a record setting event, the Team Pelfrey duo of Andries and De Phillippi wasted little time showing their speed around the high-speed Lucas Oil Raceway oval, taking the top two spots during the three-hour promoter’s test on Friday evening. THE HAWKSWORTH CONVERSION -- JACK HAWKSWORTH TRANSFORMS HIS FOURTH POLE OF THE SEASON INTO HIS THIRD VICTORY IN STAR MAZDA RACE 1 AT THE TORONTO INDY Toronto, Canada / July 7, 2012 – Team Pelfrey driver Jack Hawksworth re-asserted his position in the 2012 Star Mazda Championship presented by Goodyear with his third victory from the pole in Race 1 of the Star Mazda double-header at this weekend's Toronto Indy. Controlling the race from flag to flag – despite a standing start that left two cars stalled on the grid and several race incidents resulting in full-course yellows – Hawksworth brought his #82 Team Pelfrey / TORGOEN Swiss Watches / EXA Networks Mazda home 0.295 second ahead of Zach Veach, who started 3rd in the #77 Andretti Autosport / K12 / Zakosi Data Backup Mazda, and 1.156 seconds ahead of Gabby Chaves, who started 7th in the #19 JDC Motorsports / CLARO / Marca Colombia / Tecpro Mazda. Chaves now has three podium finishes this season and moves up to third in the points; Veach has two podiums, with today's result his best so far. Three of the four cars have won a race, including the last three races, and every BHA car has finished on the podium at least once. The BHA Hyundais are currently ranked first (#21), second (#98), third (#33) and 11th (#29) in the championship. Hyundai leads the manufacturers championship by 10 points over Audi and has a 19-point lead over Honda and Alfa Romeo. Double Time: For the second time this season and the first time since the season opener at Daytona, IMPC teams will be challenged with a four-hour race. Should the race run without caution, the TCR class will complete 411 miles, the equivalent of driving across Georgia twice in four hours! WHERE TOMORROW’S STARS RACE TODAY In 2018, the vast majority of the Verizon IndyCar Series grid will be comprised of drivers who have come through the Mazda Road to Indy Presented by Cooper Tires ranks – one of the most successful driver development programs in the world. Alumni such as Scott Dixon, Tony Kanaan and Josef Newgarden will align with recent graduates including Gabby Chaves, Zachary Claman DeMelo, Jack Harvey, Ed Jones, Kyle Kaiser, Matheus Leist, Spencer Pigot and Zach Veach. The scholarship program for each series’ champion is unequaled anywhere in the world. For 2018, the Indy Lights champion will once again earn a guaranteed minimum of a three-race program for the following year’s Verizon IndyCar Series, including the Indianapolis 500.
