THE HILL OF WITCHES It is a special place – the periphery of mystical and real world, where imagination comes alive and creativity rouses up. A forester Jonas Stanius from Juodkrante after feeling such atmosphere had conceived an idea that masters could carve fairy-tale characters and the legends existing in these fields for ages and after such extraordinary dwellers the hill of witches would revive. The whole ensemble consists of more than 80 oak sculptures as a gift to Lithuania and visitors. STONE SCULPTURES PARK AT THE QUAY Exposition has been created during 1997-1999 international symposiums of sculptors called “Soil and water”. It consists of 31 sculptures, which were created by the artists from Lithuania, Great Britain, Sweden and other countries. Recalling his visit there he wrote in his Essay of life: "We spent several days in the fishing village of Nida and we were so impressed by the inexpressible beauty and uniqueness of its surroundings that we decided to build a permanent residence in this fair place". NERINGA HISTORY MUSEUM Museum’s exhibitions present the Curonian Spit residents’ crafts, fishing appliances, models of “kurėnas” (national type of boat), “kiudelvatis” (barrel shape boat), dragnet and wind mast boats, smelt destroyer and hunting crows, findings at Nida neolith settlement, history of Nida Post Station. AMBER GALLERY – MUSEUM Visitors can individually visit outdoor exposition and take a walk by “Amber Road”, which starts from the Baltic sea and extends over the whole Europe to the Etruscan lands in Italy, where one will see old amber workshops, presentations of tools for cultivating amber (one can become as a master of amber and try to make a bringing luck amulet for himself), view an impressive collection of inclusions, treasure amulets from Juodkrante, get to know the morphology of amber. During summer season you may attend exhibitions of artists working with amber at the Artists’ House. Moreover, here you can find out old and present techniques of amber productions, how to check the amber whether it is fake or not, see amber energy producing machine or try “Amber drink”. Under your request it may be presented in English, German and Russian. This is one of the places where a wide range of works made by Lithuanian authors can be seen and purchased. LIGHTHOUSE ON THE HILL OF URBAS This is one of the largest lighthouses on Lithuanian seacoast. A 27 meter high lighthouse of red bricks was built in 1874. During the World War II it was blown up, restored in 1953, and later reconstructed. Nida's present lighthouse is made of ferroconcrete and painted in red- white horizontal lines. It has been assumed in the world that every lighthouse is different in its shape, color and sent signals so another you will find nowhere else. LIGHTHOUSE OF HORSES Žirgų horn lighthouse wasbuilt in 1900 in the Curonian Lagoon at Pervalka. During a century it was rebuilt several times, since the last reconstruction it was equipped with an automatic mechanism for the lighthouse, and lighthouse keepers come here only occasionally. This is the only lighthouse in the Curonian Lagoon, located not on land, but on a small artificial island. The lighthouse can be inspected from a ship, and it is also visible from the coast of the Curonian Spit. COGNITIVE PATH IN THE NATURE RESERVE The Naglių Nature Reserve occupies an area of 1680 hectares. Here you can see the so called Grey Dunes (Lith. Pilkosios kopos), otherwise known as the Dead Dunes (Lith. Mirusios kopos), spontaneous wild-growing forest vegetation and centennial wood soils buried underneath the sand. Due to strong winds impressive ravines, erosions and washouts are formed in these dunes. Its length is 1100 m. Half of that distance is covered with gravel or boardway, the rest is sand.
