It was inevitable, then, that 2010 would be an important year for scholarship on the Japanese colonisation of Korea. In response to this momentous anniversary, Cipango – Cahiers d’études japonaises launched a call for papers on the subject of Japan’s colonial past in the spring of 2009. 2 Why colonisation in general and not specifically relating to Korea? Because it seemed logical to the journal’s editors that Korea would be the focus of increased attention from specialists of East Asia, at the risk of potentially forgetting the longer—and more obscure—timeline of the colonisation process. -

A comprehensive analysis and understanding of the land use changes and ecosystem services, and the equilibrium state of the interaction between the natural environment and the social economy is crucial for the sustainable utilization of land resources. We used remote sensing image to research the LUCC, ecosystem service value (ESV), and ecological economic harmony (EEH) in eight main urban areas of Harbin in China from 1990 to 2015. The results show that, in the past 25 years, arable land—which is a part of ecological land—is the main source of construction land for urbanization, whereas the other ecological land is the main source of conversion to arable land. -

Liu Feng stated that in May 1931, Itagaki Seishiro, a colonel equivalent of Kwantung Army, was responsible for devising the one-night provocation and occupation of major cities. In June, Japanese spies, Nakamura Shintaro and etc, were caught, and later shot dead. At Mt Wanbaoshan, near Changchun, Koreans forcefully dug a ditch for irrigating their fields. One month later, on July 2nd, Japanese police shot dead Chinese peasants who were in conflicts with Korean. Further, Japanese incited massive ethnic cleansing against Chinese on Korean peninsula. Chinese newspaper pointed out that it could very well be the signal portending the start of full Japanese invasion against China. On July 12th, Chiang Kai-shek instructed Zhang Xueliang by stating that "this is not a time for war [against Japan]". To quell Shi Yousan rebellion in Henan Prov, Zhang Xueliang relocated 60,000 more troops to northern China, in addition to 120,000 troops that were steered away on Sept 18th 1930 from Manchuria for the "War of the Central Plains". Beginning from July 1931, Japanese army conducted military exercises without notifying Chinese in advance. Per Bi Wanwen, 2nd column of Shenyang garrison army of Japanese Kwantung Army had shipped over heavy cannons in July in preparation for attacking Shenyang city. Japanese newspaper reported that Japanese infantry ministry chief had called for war against China on Aug 4th 1931. -

Total coal production in the mining area is about 6 million tonnes of coal annually. The underground mine, Laohutai, drains about 100 million cubic meters (more than 3.5 billion cubic feet) of methane annually, and methane production from surface boreholes has also begun. Significant opportunity exists for expanding recovery and utilization of methane from surface and underground boreholes. The longevity of Chinese civilisation is associated with the ephemeral but renewable timber structure of Chinese buildings. Such an enduring and stable tie, to a large extent, should be attributed to the adaptability of timber structures to the premodern Chinese political system. The inquiry and analysis of the research are structured into three key aspects — the impetus of Yingzao-fashi, official construction systems, the political symbolism of and literature associated with timber structure. The areas of inquiry are all centred on the research question: how did Chinese timber structure of different types serve premodern Chinese politics? First, Yingzhao-fashi has been studied by scholars mainly from a technical point of view, but it was a construction code designed to realise the agenda of political reform. Secondly, the main classifications of timber structures in Yingzao-fashi – diange and tingtang – possessed distinct construction methods of vertical massing and horizontal connection respectively. These two methods, emphasising different architectural elements, are identified as two construction systems created for royal family and officials: royal construction and government construction.
