    ABKCO RECORDS FINDS ATC MONITORS CRITICAL ATC (Acoustic Transducer Company) SCM50 monitors used by ABKCO Records for the Sam Cooke Re- mastered Series. NEW YORK, NEW YORK: Recently in the news with their landmark reissue of 22 early Rolling Stones and five Sam Cooke albums on hybrid Super Audio Compact Disc, ABKCO Records has installed a stereo pair of ATC SCM50ASL Pro active three-way monitor speakers in the company's pre-production listening environment. Ideally suited to medium-sized rooms, the ATC SCM50 reference monitors are primarily used for such critical tasks as archive research, track sequencing, and quality control of digitally re-mastered material at ABKCO's Manhattan facility. They're very musical and have great mid-range, and they're so accurate," says chief audio engineer and tape archive researcher Teri Landi of the ATC monitors. ATC manufactures all of its monitor system component parts in-house, including the company's unique SM75-150S mid-range soft dome driver, which is combined with an ATC 234mm (9-inch) Super Linear bass driver in the SCM50. The ATC Super Linear woofer is the best woofer in production anywhere. The active design of the SCM50 ensures optimum matching of six MOS-FET amp blocks to the drivers. In addition to a flat reference response, an LF contour control offers five bass boost settings. The facility that I have here is a pre-production studio which contains vintage and state-of-the-art equipment," she explains.     Brian Jones – Authenticity and Significance By Christian Botta The Rolling Stones’ guitarist and founder Brian Jones’ importance as a blues player is hard to define. At once a skilled multi-instrumentalist and an iconic symbol of sixties’ excess, he was also a central figure in the British Blues Boom, from which the group began. Because of his early death, the rapidly evolving nature of the Stones’ music in the 1960s, and his being overshadowed by blues players such as Eric Clapton, Jones’ legacy as a blues musician is enigmatic. This paper will take a look at Jones’ work and decide whether or not he was one of the important British blues players of the 1960s. Brian Jones began his career as an acolyte of the British blues scene that began to flower in London around the late 1950s, sitting in on slide guitar with bands like Alexis Korner’s Blues Incorporated. He was one of the first Britons to master slide guitar,1 and was considered to be one of the best blues harmonica players on the scene, as well.2 At the start, he was a blues purist in a milieu that was finding its way with great energy and enthusiasm. But the forces of pop stardom and the creative and competitive drive of Jones’ band mates Mick Jagger and Keith Richards eventually came to bear on Jones’ focus on the blues. What was Brian Jones’ importance to the spread of blues to the world at large and especially to musicians? Who did he influence? How authentic was his playing of the blues? This writer believes that Jones was a significant figure in the British Blues Boom and that he had an effect on American musicians, as well, and that his music has a degree of authenticity.

The new Studio Premier plan is available to the first 100,000 subscribers and is $12.50 per month with a yearly plan. Qobuz’ Dan Mackta noted the service is adding 10,000 albums per day. The announcement follows on the heels of Amazon’s reveal of its own $14.99 plan ($12.99 for Prime members). More affordable hi-res streaming can only be a good thing, especially in bringing the pleasures of better-sounding music to more people.
