Consultants can then train NMHS staff, who 1-Jan-2018 can then compare the seasonal forecast to gridded observations (e.g. CHIRPS) for verification. 2-week training course for operational forecasters in the 5 IOC countries 25-Feb-2018 (Comoros, La Réunion/France, Madagascar, Mauritius and Seychelles); two persons invited from each of the 5 NMHSs to ensure sustainable in-country capacity; workshop conducted in La Reunion so Meteo-France could also 5-Mar-2018 provide expertise Every season, National Met Service staff and users from across East Africa convene to generate and communicate a consensus seasonal forecast. Met Office staff assist in the ‘Pre-COF’ workshop, delivering training for NMHS staff in the use of CPT (Climate prediction Tools) to form one forecast projection, including a 7-Feb-2018 measure of the forecast skill. Climate variability and future changes are usually presented in some form of visualization and/or summary statements. The burden is on the users to interpret the information and include their own experiences and context to generate 23-Aug-2018 actionable information. The amount of information can be overwhelming and some visualization may be inappropriate and difficult to interpret. Climate Risk Narratives (CRNs) aim to help to address these challenges. Delivered at the Pre- GHACOF Capacity Building and Training Workshop The objective of the online training was to enable the participants to use decision support tools such as INSTAT + and CROPWAT software. Handling of these softwares aims to give participants the practical bases for the use of these tools for decision making in irrigation management. The face-to-face workshop aimed at simultaneously addressing the following three challenges: (i) ensuring food security through increased productivity and incomes, (ii) adapting to climate change and (iii) contributing to the mitigation of the impacts of climate change and climate related risk Le but visé par la formation est de donner aux participants des connaissances théoriques et pratiques sur les approches actuelles en matière de services 1-Oct-2018 agrométéorologiques dans de l’eau dans les parcelles agricoles en système de culture irriguée. The key objective of this Workshop is to instruct active and future users from National Meteorological Services and from research institutions in the use of CM SAF products for operational climate monitoring and climate research. The 20-Aug-2018 workshop will focus on the project work with supporting presentations and group work on the application of satellite data to climate monitoring. Participants are encouraged to work on their own projects. 21-Jan-2018 It is recognized that there is a need to improve the value chain from observations to climate services to support climate policy, adaptation and mitigation in East Africa.
