The film stars Biju Menon, Mia, Srinda Arhaan, Salim Kumar and Kalabhawan Shajon. It was produced by Prem Menon under his Global United Smee. The plot tells the story of the encounters of Thomas, an employee of the Indian Tax Service, who is gentle Sherlock Toms because of his insightful intelligence and sharp surveillance skills. The film was released on September 29, 2017. The young Thomas Joy is a passionate fan of Sherlock Holmes, a character created by Arthur Conan Doyle. His friends call him Sherlock Toms because of his sharp surveillance skills. Despite some childhood difficulties he grows up to be an IRS officer, but has a troubled relationship with his wife Reha, whom he married by accident. Tom is suffering from the failure of a raid he planned for the Cheat Foundation Company and his subsequent suspension. Tom attributes this to his wife's behavior and argues with her. She calls the police and claims tom hit her. He then faces court cases brought by Rekha and cheat fund company. When it becomes obvious that his lawyer fails to prove his innocence, Tom loudly threatens to commit suicide. The judge orders Tom to undergo psychiatric treatment, but during the turmoil he runs and accidentally enters the office of the cheat company, from where he demands the cancellation of his suspension and divorce from Reha. In the office he discovers the canceled currency, which he shows to the assembled media, reporting on him. When the police rescue team captured him, Tom admits that his suicide threat was an act to get the company raided thereby clearing his name. But the way the film chose is the awkward part here. Doing the whole second half of the rescue operation, this film from Shafi struggles because of the fragile script. The script dangles between desperation to be a comedian and a clever thriller and ultimately lands in none of them. Thomas is a fan of Sherlock Holmes. Since childhood he had this passion to be an investigator/detective. Despite the fact that he got a job in a department that doesn't really have the ability to be an investigator, he always went out of his way to do something interesting. The film Sherlock Toms actually speaks to that particular stage in Thomas's life, where he finally got the opportunity, but had to face unprecedented obstacles. His depression and how he finally manages to get back to real Sherlock is what this Shafi film shows us. The villain of the film, in my opinion, is weak writing. In order to set the background of our hero, writers try to include too many plots without a solid base. His children's affairs and its aftermath are often mentioned in the film with zero impact. His friendship with a gang led by a character played by Salim Kumar and his equation with his wife and father etc feels so artificial. Lack of authenticity is also a problem as history here needs a certain level of rationale. Biju Menon is in its typical form here. The kind of humor in his portrayal that we've seen already in recent movies is repeated here, and the role isn't particularly challenging for him. Srinda as a wife was fine, but the general eccentric tone of this wasn't really really Salim Kumar gets a forgetful character. Mia's character wasn't so interesting either. Nobi, Harish, Kottayam Nasir, Kalabhawan Shahon and several others are there in support of the cast to enhance the film's track humor. Poor Vijayaraghavan works inside the hotel wearing only a bath towel in a meaningless role and Suresh Krishna's comedy stand reminded me of some of these comedy tracks we see in Tamil movies. Shafi is more interested in making him a comedian. But the film is about totality has a penchant for being a thriller of suspense. The lack of authenticity in the thriller part and the protracted script that attempts to stretch the plot through a half-baked situation in the second half rips the film out of its way. The cinematographer was fine. The cuts should have been more organized. Thematic music seems to be quite familiar. The music was different from Bijibal, although the placement of F these songs in the film lacked conviction. Sherlock Toms has no legitimacy for a good investigative thriller. The lack of conviction in conceiving the thriller part and leaning towards the typical comedy pulls it back from watching the movie. However, his wife's antics lead to the fact that the whole thing goes awry, even pushing him to insanity. His scheme is to salvage some pride as the last-ditch effort takes the plot forward. SHERLOCK TOMS OVERVIEW: The film directed by Shafi Sherlock Toms has all the necessary ingredients for capturing, a clever thriller - a hero inspired by the Sherlock Holmes book, a crackling case and a promising tight premise that could have the audience hooked to their seats. However, the director squanders it all, taking the road often traveled and emphasizing the irressoltransmoding humor. The film presents its main character - PL Thomas (Biju Menon) and his fascination with Sherlock Holmes books. Very early on he helps solve the case at school and earns the nickname Sherlock Toms. Since then, his goal has been to be an IPS officer, but he ends up as an IRS official. The opportunity as a law enforcement officer soon beckons, and he hopes to crack a major case in his exit. However, thanks to the antics of his embittered wife Rehi (Srinda), his cover is blown up, and the investigation takes awry - to bring him to insanity. As a last resort, Thomas tries to salvage some pride. How he goes about it and if he successfully shapes the plot. The first half of the film, scripted by Sachi and Najim Koya, is free and focuses on his henchmen and his nagging wife's wife The focus is on presenting a film riddled with humor, but that's where it suffers too, as the comedy falls flat, thereby depriving the film of the push it requires. In the second half there is an interesting premise that could be the audience hooked to their seats. But the screenwriters once again choose a lazy route, stretching the film with the help of comedy and convenient plot devices. While Biju Menon goes out of his way to inject some energy into the film, even it is sometimes not listed, and you prefer the character committing an act that he threatens to do within one hour of the film. With a variety of characters including Mia George, Salim Kumar, Suresh Krishna, Harish Kanaran, Kalabhavan Shahon, Kottayam Nazir, Vijayaragawan and Rafi, they also get enough screen time, which takes away from the plot. Editing could be much tougher. For Shafi, this film is a missed opportunity, and it ends more as a tale of Shihari Shambu than Sherlock Holmes. Biju Menon has now transformed from being a character actor to a leading character after back to the back of successes, and his fan base strengthens exponentially with each film. This time he teamed up with director Shafi, which means guaranteed entertainment. Shafi wrote the screenplay in collaboration with writers Sachi and Najim Koya, who are also credited with the story. Sherlock Toms, the very name has aroused curiosity in the masses as it resembles Sherlock Holmes.
