Lease in Hand, Club Looks to tlie Future

by Trudy Durand ew lease in hand, SSYC's Board is losing no time in planning for the Club's future. "We have put off some maintenance because we could not have any Ndebt at the end of the old lease," Commodore Gary Matson said at a special members meeting July 22. The nearly 50 attendees came to learn and exchange ideas. "We have to bring the club house up to code by June 1, 2011. We also have a pressing issue-the rebuilding of D dock," Mattson said. He recommended the dock project as the first priority, with rebuilding in spring 2004. The budget could handle it from the debt retirement account which is now available to Inside This Issue us, Gary said. Members present agreed the project was necessary, and doing it first would provide time to thoroughly research the clubhouse issue. Sail/Race News Discussion was more lively regarding the future of the clubhouse. Board Member Auxiliary Update Ralph Winkler explained that in preparation for the lease discussion an architect had looked at the building. A ball park estimate in early 2001 of costs to upgrade the LMYA Open House existing club, including a new roof, new siding, electric, plumbing, HVAC ( heating, PHRF FLeet Grudge Party ventilating and air conditioning), fire protection, etc. and the big item, meeting the Sail/Race News "Americans with Disabilities Act requirements, would be about $1 Million. The ball T-10 Fleet News park estimate for constructing a new building would be about 1.5 Million dollars. Powerboater's Update "HOWEVER, it's not exactly a question of improved old vs. new," explained Rear Commodore Terry Case. "Code today would not permit a basement, and the DNR has SS/SSS Fleet News not permitted expansion, with a possible exception for ADA improvements. Therefore Do You Know & More! we would have a smaller building if we built a new one," Case said.
