Automatic Movie Analysis and Summarisation Philip John Gorinski I V N E R U S E I T H Y T O H F G E R D I N B U Doctor of Philosophy Institute for Language, Cognition and Computation School of Informatics University of Edinburgh 2017 Abstract Automatic movie analysis is the task of employing Machine Learning methods to the field of screenplays, movie scripts, and motion pictures to facilitate or enable vari- ous tasks throughout the entirety of a movie’s life-cycle. From helping with making informed decisions about a new movie script with respect to aspects such as its origi- nality, similarity to other movies, or even commercial viability, all the way to offering consumers new and interesting ways of viewing the final movie, many stages in the life-cycle of a movie stand to benefit from Machine Learning techniques that promise to reduce human effort, time, or both. -

JASON PDF, EPUB, EBOOK Laurell K. Hamilton | 304 pages | 06 Feb 2015 | Headline Publishing Group | 9781472226983 | English | London, United Kingdom Jason Voorhees | Friday the 13th Wiki | Fandom Jason fathered twins with the queen. Heracles pressured them to leave as he was disgusted by the antics of the Argonauts. He had not taken part, which is truly unusual considering the numerous affairs he had with other women. After Lemnos the Argonauts landed among the Doliones , whose king Cyzicus treated them graciously. He told them about the land beyond Bear Mountain, but forgot to mention what lived there. What lived in the land beyond Bear Mountain were the Gegeines , which are a tribe of Earthborn giants with six arms and wore leather loincloths. While most of the crew went into the forest to search for supplies, the Gegeines saw that few Argonauts were guarding the ship and raided it. Heracles was among those guarding the ship at the time and managed to kill most of them before Jason and the others returned. Once some of the other Gegeines were killed, Jason and the Argonauts set sail. The Argonauts departed, losing their bearings and landing again at the same spot that night. In the darkness, the Doliones took them for enemies and they started fighting each other. The Argonauts killed many of the Doliones, among them the king Cyzicus. Cyzicus' wife killed herself. The Argonauts realized their horrible mistake when dawn came and held a funeral for him. Soon Jason reached the court of Phineus of Salmydessus in Thrace. Zeus had sent the harpies to steal the food put out for Phineas each day. -
The Contemporary American Horror Film Remake, 2003-2013
RE-ANIMATED: THE CONTEMPORARY AMERICAN HORROR FILM REMAKE, 2003-2013 Thesis submitted by Laura Mee In partial fulfilment of the requirements for the award of Doctor of Philosophy De Montfort University, March 2014 Abstract This doctoral thesis is a study of American horror remakes produced in the years 2003-2013, and it represents a significant academic intervention into an understanding of the horror remaking trend. It addresses the remaking process as one of adaptation, examines the remakes as texts in their own right, and situates them within key cultural, industry and reception contexts. It also shows how remakes have contributed to the horror genre’s evolution over the last decade, despite their frequent denigration by critics and scholars. Chapter One introduces the topic, and sets out the context, scope and approach of the work. Chapter Two reviews the key literature which informs this study, considering studies in adaptation, remaking, horror remakes specifically, and the genre more broadly. Chapter Three explores broad theoretical questions surrounding the remake’s position in a wider culture of cinematic recycling and repetition, and issues of fidelity and taxonomy. Chapter Four examines the ‘reboots’ of one key production company, exploring how changes are made across versions even as promotion relies on nostalgic connections with the originals. Chapter Five discusses a diverse range of slasher film remakes to show how they represent variety and contribute to genre development. Chapter Six considers socio-political themes in 1970s horror films and their contemporary post-9/11 remakes, and Chapter Seven focuses on gender representation and recent genre trends in the rape-revenge remake. -

Holy Horror: A Quantitative Analysis of the Use of Religion in the Yearly Top Grossing Horror Films From 2000 to 2009 Jason Wheeler Submitted to the faculty of the University Graduate School in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree Masters of Arts in the Department of Communications, Liberty University May 2011 1 Acknowledgments To my Mom and Dad, thank you for all of your support, both physically and financially, throughout the process of writing this thesis. Without your help this accomplishment would not have been possible. To my brother, thank you for everything you did that allowed me to be able to accomplish this thesis. Without your help, I could never have made it. While these past two years were difficult, you brother made it easier, and that is something that will always be very special to me. I would also like to thank the rest of my family for your support throughout this process. 2 Abstract The yearly top-grossing films from 2000 to 2009 were analyzed to see if correlation exists between overt religious content and box office success. Also, the films were analyzed to see if correlation exists between overt religious content and IMDb.com user ratings. Neither box office success nor IMDb.com user ratings were found to be correlated with over religious content. 3 Table of Contents Acknowledgments…………………………………………………………………………1 Abstract……………………………………………………………………………………2 Chapter 1: Introduction……………………………………………………………………4 Chapter 2: Literature Review……………………………………………………………...7 Chapter 3: Methodology …………………………………………………………………20 Chapter 4: Study………………………………………………………………………….25 Chapter 5: Discussion……………………………………………………………………49 Bibliography.……………………………………………………………………………..53 4 Holy Horror: A Quantitative Analysis of the Use of Religion in the Yearly Top Grossing Horror Films From 2000 to 2009 Introduction The popularity of the horror genre has risen significantly over the past few decades, but opinions on what makes these films so popular is widely varied. -
1. Needs to Have at Least Four Theatrically Released Films in the Series (Jaws I-III, Jaws: the Revenge)
Horror Franchise List Below you will find 24 franchises. Here is the criteria for the list. 1. Needs to have at least four theatrically released films in the series (Jaws I-III, Jaws: The Revenge). Compiling data on direct to DVD movies would be impossible because of lack of data/reviews/box office. Click here to see all the franchises. 2. I took sequels (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), remakes (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and prequels (Texas Chainsaw: the Beginning) into account. I also added the Romero Zombie franchise and the Hannibal films because they feature the same world, characters and cannibals. 3. Critical and audience data was collected from Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb and Amazon. Metacritic did not have enough data so we excluded it from the MFFM. 4. I am looking only at domestic box office and had to leave out several international series due to lack of data. The toughest omission was the [Rec] series. I Also had to leave out the Universal Monster films because there is a lack of consistent box-office data. Viva la Bride of Frankenstein though! 5. I added Alien vs. Predator and Alien vs. Predator Requiem to the Alien and Predator lists. It felt kinda obvious. Here are the franchises and films within them. Alien Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien Resurrection, AVP, AVPR, Prometheus Amityville Horror Amityville Horror, Amityville Horror II, The Possession, Amityville 3D, Amityville Horror FInal Destination Final Destination, Final Destination 2, Final Destination 3, The Final Destination, Final Destination 5 Friday the 13th Friday the 13th, Friday the 13th: Part Two, Friday the 13th: Part III, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, Friday the 13th: A New Beginning, Friday the 13th: Part VI: Jason Lives, Friday the 13th: Part VII: The New Blood, Friday the 13th: Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan, Jason Goes to Hell: The FInal Friday, Jason X, Freddy vs. -
It's Been Almost 10 Years Since One of the Scariest Horror Characters of All
FREDDY vs. JASON Get ready for the ultimate showdown! Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) is in hell – literally. It’s been nearly ten years since Krueger, one of the scariest horror movie characters of all time (from A The Nightmare on Elm Street series), invaded peoples’ dreams to exact his deadly form of revenge and murder. But now, his memory has been systematically erased by a town determined to put an end to Freddy once and for all. Potential victims have been drugged to prevent them from dreaming, rendering impotent the master of nightmares They’ve eliminated their fear of Freddy, absolute torture for an egomaniac psychopath who’s a legend in his own mind. Like an inmate with a life sentence, Freddy’s been reduced to plotting a fantastic revenge that will never happen. Until, that is, Freddy resurrects Jason Voorhees (Ken Kirzinger), the equally iconic madman from the Friday the 13th film series. Jason is the perfect means for Freddy to once again instill fear on Elm Street, creating a window of opportunity for him to emerge from his purgatory. Recognizing how easily manipulated Jason is, Freddy tricks Voorhees into journeying to Springwood to start a new reign of terror. But as the bodies begin to pile up on Elm Street and Freddy’s fearsome reputation assumes new life, he discovers that Jason isn’t willing to cease his murderous ways and step aside so easily. Now, with a terrified town in the middle, the two titans of terror enter into a horrifying showdown of epic proportions, alternating between the world of dreams and the harsh reality of the living world. -
