    Committee(s) Dated: Standards Committee 5 October 2018 Subject: Public Declaration of Gifts and Hospitality in relation to the special provision made for the Lord Mayor and Shrevialty as Ceremonial Office Holders Report of: For Information Executive Director, Mansion House and Central Criminal Court Report Author: Vic Annells Summary To update the Committee on the Lord Mayor and Shrieval declaration of gifts and hospitality for the year 2017/18. Recommendation(s) Members are asked to note the report. Main Report Background 1. Following the meeting of Standards Committee on 20th February 2015 it was agreed that as of 1st April 2015 gifts and hospitality which breached the threshold, as applied to all Members, would be declared unless they fell within the caveat outlined within the previous report of ‘special provision’ for the Lord Mayor and Shrievalty as ceremonial office holders. 2. The last report on gifts and hospitality was made to the Committee at its meeting in October 2017. Current Position 3. Since the last report, the Lord Mayor has made declarations at broadly three monthly intervals, declaring gifts and hospitality publicly via the internet page - http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/about-the-city/the-lord-mayor/Pages/default.aspx The gifts and hospitality are detailed on separate documents. 4. Members will be aware that the Shrievalty commences in September, therefore, the attached appendices summarise the Shrieval year of Alderman and Sheriff Timothy Hailes and Sheriff Neil Redcliffe. 5. The Lord Mayor and Shrievalty have no separate declarations to make to the Committee under the special provision. All gifts and hospitality have been declared in the attached appendices.

    RECIPROCAL CLUBS RECIPROCAL CLUBS Using our reciprocal clubs is easy, opening up a worldwide network of 153 clubs in 36 countries. Most of these clubs have websites which are almost invariably full of good information about their facilities, times of opening, and detailed location. Members should make their own arrangements directly with reciprocal clubs. If a letter of introduction is required please contact the Oxford and Cambridge Club on 020 7321 5176 or email [email protected]. Members should always carry their card of introduction (the membership card issued at the end of January) when visiting reciprocal clubs. Obviously Members should observe the rules and regulations of the host club. Clubs are listed alphabetically by country and then by city. The textual commentary attached to each club entry shows the principal facilities. Members seeking more information are invited to make direct contact with the clubs concerned. What started as a short research project in lockdown on the Lady Masters Association has turned into a comprehensive and informative paper on how the role of women in City Civic life has evolved since the Middle Ages. It’s easy to forget how quickly the livery has changed in this regard. In 1983, when the first female Lord Mayor, Dame Mary Donaldson was elected, more than half of the livery companies were not open to women on equal terms as men. At the turn of the millennium, more than a quarter still did not allow equal admittance. Now, at long last, in 2020, all City livery companies and guilds accept women on equal terms with men, making this a timely moment for this research paper to be published. As the paper reminds us, women have had a long and significant impact in civic and livery life in the last thousand years. Many Medieval guilds were reliant on the skilled work of women and many buildings only came into the possession of the Livery or the City Corporation, such as the former Bricklayers Hall or Columbia Market, through acquisitions and donations from women.

    The Worshipful Company of Carmen CART MARKING 2019 GUILDHALL YARD, CITY OF LONDON WEDNESDAY 17TH JULY, 2019 A WORD FROM THE MASTER Welcome to Cart Marking! It is with great pleasure that I welcome The Rt Hon The Lord Mayor Alderman Peter Estlin, The Lady Mayoress Lindy Estlin, Sheriff Vincent Keaveney and Mrs Amanda Keaveney and Sheriff Liz Green and Mr Peter Green. I also welcome some of my fellow Livery Masters, their partners, Livery Clerks, our Liverymen, Freemen and Apprentices and all other guests and visitors to Cart Marking this year. I’ve been looking forward to saying that for nine years, ever since I first had involvement with the event in 2010 when, in my first year as a Court Assistant, the then Cart Marking Chairman, Commander Bawtree, press ganged me naval style into helping out. The following year he gave me the news that I would be taking over from him as Chairman of the Cart Marking panel and the rest is history. Talk about being keelhauled! My four years in that role and the seven years involvement in total have given me insights into all aspects of the event so when I thank the Cart Marking panel for everything they’ve done this year, I really mean it! In spite of yet more bureaucratic and financial hurdles put in their way, they’ll deliver another spectacular show. Well done Assistant Richard Buswell and the panel. This pageant would not exist if it wasn’t for the enthusiastic vehicle owners and drivers to whom we owe our thanks and appreciation.
