ABBA Abba. A principios de los años setenta, cuatro suecos llamados Anni-Frid, Agnetha, Bjorn y Benny formaron uno de los grupos de más éxito de los setenta y principios de los ochenta. Bautizaron el grupo jugando con las iniciales de sus cuatro integrantes. El resultado: ABBA. El salto a la fama de Abba ocurrió en 1974, cuando ganaron el festival de Eurovisión, en su mejor edición, con la canción Waterloo. A partir de ese momento, todos sus discos se situaron en las listas de los más vendidos en toda Europa. El álbum completo de 'Waterloo' incluye temas de muy diversos estilos, intentando descubrir aquellos que más podían agradar al público. En su siguiente disco, 'Arrival', Abba muestra ya su propio estilo de música, que se vio continuado en 'Abba', en el que se incluyen algunos de sus temas de mayor éxito, como 'Mamma mia', 'I do, I do, I do' y 'S.O.S.'. Tras varios discos de éxitos y en pleno apogeo triunfal por Europa, Abba decide conquistar el mercado norteamericano. Para ello diseñan un nuevo disco, 'Voulez-Vous', con ritmos totalmente discotequeros. El resultado es un sonoro fracaso, ya que no consiguieron despertar de su indiferencia al público americano. Los componentes de Abba formaban dos parejas sentimentales. Por un lado, Bjorn y Agnetha y por otro Anni-Frid y Benny. A finales de 1978, Bjorn y Agnetha anunciaron su ruptura sentimental, lo que repercutió seriamente en las relaciones entre los miembros de Abba, lo que motivó el inicio del declive del grupo. Posteriormente, en 1980 la otra pareja de Abba también se divorció, y esta vez sí que la situación fue insostenible como para mantener en pie un grupo en el que es imprescindible la armonía entre sus integrantes. -

Page 1 of 283 Report to the Future Melbourne Committee Agenda item 6.4 Planning Scheme Amendment C387 Hoddle Grid Heritage (Permanent 18 May 2021 controls) Presenter: Emma Appleton, Director City Strategy Purpose and background 1. The purpose of this report is to consider the submissions received to Melbourne Planning Scheme Amendment C387 Hoddle Grid Heritage Permanent Controls (the Amendment) and to recommend that the Future Melbourne Committee refer all submissions listed at Attachment 2 to an independent Panel in accordance with the Planning and Environment Act 1987. 2. The Amendment implements the recommendations of the Hoddle Grid Heritage Review, 2020 (the Review) by Context and peer reviewed by GJM Heritage. It proposes to include 137 new individual heritage places and five new precincts within Heritage Overlays. Protection of these places contributes to the Grid’s hierarchy of memorable streets and laneways, and diverse precincts, attracting economic activity integral to the Victorian state economy and offering adaptable floor space within the city. 3. The Review was presented to the Future Melbourne Committee on 4 August 2020. Under delegation, management requested authorisation from the Minister for Planning to prepare and exhibit the Amendment. Exhibition was undertaken from 5 November to 17 December 2020, including a wide range of engagement activities that optimised community participation and celebrated heritage in the city. Key issues 4. Twenty-two submissions were received in support of the Amendment including from the National Trust, the Royal Historical Society of Victoria and Melbourne Heritage Action. Forty three submissions were received in opposition to inclusion of 48 places within Heritage Overlays in the Amendment. -

STREET ART AND THE CITY: SOME CONSIDERATIONS JEFF STEWART 2 NORTH ST DAYLESFORD 3460 [email protected] KEYWORDS Graffiti, Vandalism, Dérive, Illegal, Legal, Laneways ABSTRACT Graffiti is primarily a product of an urban environment that local governments need to engage with creatively, not merely take a strict zero tolerance approach where engagement is seen as a diversion that hopes to tame a vigorous and diverse form of expression. This paper is in two sections. The first looks at graffiti and street art in the City of Melbourne within the framework of vandalism, a label imposed upon it by local and state governments, sections of the media and general public. It also attempts to give voice to those who are described as vandals by acknowledging their art form’s own histories. The second section briefly discusses the concept of the dérive – here a purposeful walk through the city’s laneways allowing graffiti to prompt direction and analysis – and documents that process. Amy Marr A thesis submitted for the degree of Master of Arts (MA), Art History At the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand. 2015. ii Abstract Graffiti has had a history as an illegal and unsanctioned presence in Melbourne, Australia. It has propelled the city to the forefront of the international street art movement as the graffiti capital of Australia and the Pacific, while being decreed both a dangerous blight on the cityscape and an important part of the city’s urban culture. This thesis examines these developments, asking how and why graffiti has been paradoxically received as both a form of crime and art by the Melbourne City Council and the Victorian State Government. My thesis begins with a discussion of the symbolic nature of contemporary graffiti practices in an international and historic context, looking primarily at the similarities and differences between hip-hop style graffiti and street art, and the diverging responses to these forms of graffiti. I argue that it is primarily the disruption graffiti practices represent in relation to urban social and visual order that has influenced and informed official responses to graffiti practices. Furthermore, the strong position taken by city authorities against graffiti internationally has effectively worked to enhance the disruptive and subversive nature of graffiti, imbuing it with a powerful and evocative presence in urban space. Following this, I address the diverse history of graffiti in Melbourne and the circumstances unique to Melbourne that have culminated in its international reputation as a graffiti capital. -

Wood 2017 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ABSTRACT This paper describes making the documentary film Chinese Whispers - Southern Roots in the Australian Swampy Sound through process stories and descriptive travelogue. The film depicts some ways in which the music of the American South influenced punk rock in Australia during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Through cultural immersion and participant observation, the filmmaker compares two seemingly disparate cultures to show some transnational currents that have carried this Southern cultural export to Australia’s music city. The filmmaker traveled to Melbourne, Australia to document Melbourne’s streetscapes and urban spaces where the music community gathers and collected video interviews with authorities in Australian punk including DIY entrepreneur and owner of Au Go Go Records Bruce Milne, Stranded author Clinton Walker, journalist Jo Roberts, and musicians Kim Salmon from the The Scientists and Spencer P. Jones, a founding member of the Beasts of Bourbon and The Johnnys. The most remarkable influences include the mid-1970s recordings by Memphis native Alex Chilton and covers of obscure rockabilly and rhythm and blues records by New York City psychobilly vanguards The Cramps. -

Agenda Item 5.4 COUNCIL REPORT 29 July 2004 PROPOSED RENAMING OF CORPORATION LANE (CL NO 1404) MELBOURNE, AS ACDC LANE Committee Planning and Development Presenter Cr Ng, Chair Planning and Development Committee Purpose 1. To seek Council approval of a proposal to rename “Corporation Lane” (CL No 1404) as shown on the plan attached to the Management Report, as ACDC Lane. Consideration at Committee 2. As a result of consideration at Committee the following paragraph was added to the recommendation contained in the Management Report (to be numbered 18.3): 2.1. “request the administration prepare a report outlining opportunities for renaming Corporation Lanes.” Issues arising subsequent to Committee 3. Since the meeting of the Planning and Development Committee on 8th July 2004, the written submissions made on the proposal to change the name of Corporation Lane to ACDC Lane have been considered. Submission 1 – Pine Glen Ministries 4. The submitter is concerned about honouring the reputation of ACDC as the Ministry does not consider that the band is an appropriate role model for young people. In response, it is considered that the naming of the lane after the band does not necessarily support the individual members’ lifestyles but recognises that they are one of the biggest rock bands ever to be exported by the Australian music industry and have hundreds of thousands of supporters worldwide. Submission 2 – Rosati Restaurant 5. Two meetings have been held with the manager of Rosati and he has expanded on the written objection. The restaurant managers are concerned that, given the emphasis that this city has on heritage matters, the true heritage nature of the precinct surrounding Corporation Lane is that of the rag trade, as many of the buildings in which the restaurants, including Rosati, now exist were formerly clothing/manufacturing premises.
