A los ilustres integrantes del Comité científico, a los conferen- cistas invitados y nacionales, a los estudiantes de la PUCE, con su revitalizador entusiasmo (un agradecimiento especial a Ig- nacio Alvarado, quien realizó las grabaciones), el homenaje de estas páginas, como el más alto reconocimiento a su brillante aporte. 10 INTRODUCCIÓN Acontece algo único con Dante: por más variada que se muestre la tipología de un estudio dedicado a él, e independientemente del número de aportaciones, siempre encontraremos conver- gencias significativas en alguna de sus múltiples instancias; de modo que al esfuerzo integrador sucede la hipótesis documen- tal, una mera declaración de compatibilidad, responsable tanto de la coherencia argumentativa como de la amplitud referen- cial. Cuanto más heterogéneo el estudio crítico sobre Dante, en suma, tanto más confiables serán los resultados, o mayor su poder de representatividad, de adhesión, en primer lugar, semántica. En el volumen colectivo que presentamos a continuación esta tendencia emerge de la susceptibilidad al diálogo entre los dis- tintos aportes, algo que exime de una intervención directa por parte del observador. Atendiendo a esta razón interna, estable- ceremos como único criterio ordenador la sucesión temporal de los textos que ocuparon el espacio destinado a las conferencias magistrales (I sección del volumen); mientras que las charlas de menor extensión (II sección) se colocarán en el orden alfa- bético impuesto por los apellidos autorales. “La paz como centro y círculo”: el canto XVII del Purgatorio, dedicado a este tema capital en la economía de la construc- ción dantesca, se impone a nuestra atención en las páginas de 11 la conferencia inaugural, a cargo de Rino Caputo (Universidad de Roma “Tor Vergata”). “La paz es para Dante”, según anota el estudioso, “una especie de preparación para el bienestar; y actuar la paz significa operar la canalización de las energías positivas hacia el natural desemboque de la realización humana más plena, en cuanto consecuente con la esencia y fin natural de la especie […]. Se comprende mejor ahora el hecho de que este canto se halla enmarcado entre la temática del libre al- bedrío y la voluntad de ser buen cristiano. Los que cooperan a la paz, condición necesaria para el correcto desenvolvimiento del ser humano en la tierra y el natural desarrollo de todo su potencial, llevan pura y simplemente a buen fin el ejercicio na- tural del libre albedrío; en otras palabras, la luz del buen dis- cernimiento los guía hacia la meta apropiada, que es el fin de todo amor lícito (caridad, paz, suprema realización humana y por tanto metafísica, cristiana)”. ¿En este contexto, cómo se justifica el centro? “El movimiento de la ‘luz’ (de la lumbre divina)” -explica el autor- “permite la circulación de la voluntad divina. En tal sentido, el centro y el círculo del mundo se armonizan. El cen- tro recoge el círculo y el círculo despliega el centro, como se aclarará en Paradiso XIV, 1-3: ‘Del centro al borde, y desde el borde al centro / muévese el agua en el redondo vaso, / según se impulse desde fuera o dentro’”. Appunti su una ricerca da fare Marzia Pieri Università di Siena [email protected] Riassunto Da circa due secoli la Divina Commedia è fatta oggetto, in Italia, di letture teatralizzate e di vere e proprie riduzioni drammaturgiche, che hanno raggiunto vaste masse di spet- tatori, e la cui popolarità non accenna ancora oggi ad esaurirsi. Il fenomeno delle “dan- tate” – che non conosce equivalenti in altre culture europee – accompagna l’avventura risorgimentale per la conquista dell’indipendenza, ed è legato alla tradizione italiana del grande mattatore romantico: a partire da Gustavo Modena (l’attore mazziniano che intende portare Dante al popolo come veicolo di emancipazione politica), i grandi guitti italiani romantici, naturalistici e poi novecenteschi (di avanguardia o di “tradizione”) hanno continuato a recitare il poema, costruendo, per via performativa, una peculiare ecdotica, ancora tutta da studiare. Le celebrazioni dantesche del centenario del 1865, in una Firenze appena consacrata capitale del Regno d’Italia, segnano un acme di questa fortuna festiva e teatrale. Due to the defeat of their client, Mussolini, in WW II, the project was never realized and became one of the best known unbuilt modern projects. Through the use of advanced computer graphics technology, an attempt has been made to simulate a walk-through experience of light and materials inside this unbuilt monument.     Divine Comedy Author(s): Alighieri, Dante (1265-1321) Publisher: CCEL Description: Dante©s Divine Comedy is the masterpiece of the Italian lan- guage. Written between 1308 and 1321, the three-part epic poem is well-known as a literary classic. The poem features Dante as the main character (though it is fiction), and de- scribes his journey through Hell (Inferno), Purgatory (Pur- gatorio) and Heaven (Paradiso). He meets many angels, demons, and other human travelers on this trip, and his guides are the Latin poet Virgil and Beatrice, a woman he loved. Under the surface, though, Divine Comedy is an al- legory. Dante uses his journey to represent the soul©s movement toward God, and the poem has many other reli- gious themes, mostly gathered from the medieval theology of Thomas Aquinas. The poem is extremely intricate, and mathematical and scientific patterns can be found throughout. Dante also makes many cultural references and allusions, Greek and Roman myth provide many of the characters and history, and the story even has political themes. Divine Comedy is a work that explores the afterlife from a medieval perspective. It is a fascinating read that will entrance all who take the journey with Dante.     Carlo Albarello Costruzioni letterarie e valori cromatici nel Danteum di Pietro Lingeri e Giuseppe Terragni In 1938 Giuseppe Terragni and Pietro Lingeri designed the Danteum, a monument to be erected in the new via dei Fori Imperiali in Rome. The project area, before the Basilica di Massenzio, is endowed with special symbolic value, since during the Fascist period this was already considered a suitable site for the architectural competition for a Palazzo Littorio. Both in the 1934 competition and in the 1938 project the problems connected to the inclusion of new elements onto the ancient remains called into question the chromatic issue as one which designers should take into far greater account. In this respect, the Danteum is the monument that more than others displays a quite interesting sequence of spacial structures which parallel Dante’s work while, at the same time, offering a peculiar chromatic synthesis in the ideal and material relationship with the various features of the historical period and the archaeological site. In this work the resulting mix of literary and architectural language was to serve as a tool to promote the ideology of the Fascist regime, while making of Dante Alighieri, through his work and thought, the interpreter of an autocratic view of political power.
