The transportation was undertaken by COSCO SHIPPING and from now on, Curacao Shipyard will be able to accommodate more vessels, simultaneously. Floating docks with size: 230m X 37m Panamax Dock and 120m X 27m Dock. Main services are dry-docking, repair and maintenance, modifications, conversions and constructions. Damen Verolme Rotterdam (DVR) has been an active ship repair yard since 1957 and is situated in close proximity to the North Sea, in the Port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. This yard is well known for its drydocking, repair and maintenance capabilities and has a long track record of modification and conversion of upstream offshore units. On June 30th, 2017, the yard was acquired by the Damen Shipyards Group and became a Damen Shiprepair & Conversion (DSC) company. This acquisition means an increase in offshore market capacity for DSC. The yard can accommodate any seagoing vessel or floating offshore unit. Recently, the yard diversified by adding offshore unit decommissioning to its services The shipyard has a rich history and is proud to retain the Verolme name. Mr. Cornelis Verolme started building the large drydock in Rotterdam’s Botlek area in 1970. The 405 x 90m graven drydock can easily accommodate rigs, semi-submersibles and jack-ups as well as the largest vessels in the world. The two other graven docks cater to the larger vessels sailing the globe. De start van de rivierdienst Door de aanleg van grote werken als de Nieuwe Merwede en de Rotterdamse Waterweg en de ontwikkeling van de scheepvaart op de grote rivieren, die in einde 19e eeuw in een stroomversnelling kwam door de overgang van houten zeilschepen op ijzeren stoomschepen, groeide waarschijnlijk het besef, dat het rivierbeheer een specialisatie was, die centralisatie van de aandacht en kennis vereiste. Met ingang van 1 april 1873 werd door de Minister van Binnenlandse Zaken dan ook ‘het technisch beheer der rivieren’ ingesteld onder leiding van de inspecteur in algemene dienst P. Caland. Aan deze inspecteur werd de hoofdingenieur H.S.J. Rose toegevoegd, die met de voorbereiding van de werkzaamheden verbonden aan dit beheer, was belast. De uitvoering van de werken bleef voorlopig nog een taak van de hoofdingenieurs in de districten1. Op 1 januari 1875 trad een nadere regeling in werking voor het beheer van de grote rivieren2 en per die datum werd ook H.S.J. Rose aangewezen als hoofdingenieur voor de rivieren3. Deze MB behelsde de instelling van het rivierbeheer, die was belast met zowel de voorbereiding als de uitvoering van de werkzaamheden, verbonden aan het beheer van de grote rivieren, met inbegrip van de uiterwaarden, platen en kribben.

Nowadays this movement is speeding up because of the financial crisis. Lack of financial resources forces governments to give more room to initiatives from the private sector. For recreational areas in the Netherlands, this new hands-off mentality of the government led to problems. Less state money is available for development and maintenance of the areas. An area which has to deal with decay because of these issues is Brielse Meer. No money is available for improvements in the area and solutions are expected to be found in enhanced participation with entrepreneurs and citizens. The problem is however that the recreatieschap of Brielse Meer does not know what possibilities there are for participation and how to support this. Further decrease of possibilities for recreation might lead to negative health consequences, degradation of natural landscapes and economic losses in the leisure industry in the area.

Spijkenisse, Carlton Oasis’ home harbour, is the beating heart of one of the most beautiful and successful business areas in our country. Voorne-Putten: an island of contrasts 80 81 he A15 (the motorway that runs from Nijmegen to the Maasvlakte... or vice versa) is the access road to Voorne-Putten, and to Spijkenisse. TAfter Rotterdam – where you still have a view over the impressive skyline – you would be forgiven for imagining that you’re in an almost futuristic environment surrounded by harbour companies and industry, oil storage depots, windmills and water. Undeniably the Port of Rotterdam – also known as Botlek and Rijnmond – in all its glory! The view across to this area in the evenings, once all the lights come one, is even more impressive. There’s something tough and inaccessible about it. And it’s bustling with activity. Once you cross the bridge at the Spijkenisse turnoff, you get to the most northerly of the South Holland islands. Spijkenisse is an ‘ordinary’ modern Dutch city, a stone’s throw from Rotterdam, which makes it all the more remarkable that 50 metres beyond the Carlton Oasis you’ll find yourself in a wonderful nature area.

The port area also accommodates an extensive industrial complex. Most major carriers include Rotterdam in their services. From this strategically located port, the containers destined for other European countries are then forwarded by feeder services, inland vessels, railway or trucks. The size of the port’s industrial area and its position at the gateway of the European inland waterway network makes the port of Rotterdam ideally located for the transshipment of cargo. The site is located in the industrial complex at Seinehaven in ABOUT LYONDELLBASELL the Port of Rotterdam near the Hartelkanaal and the Nieuwe Maas estuary. The site includes the world’s LyondellBasell (NYSE: LYB) is one of the largest largest BDO plant, an independent inner harbor and a site-owned train and truck terminal. The terminal is linked to the Botlek and Maasvlakte plants by two 7-km pipelines. The site also includes a deep-water plastics, chemicals and refining companies terminal in the Europoort area that was built in 1991. The terminal is located at the 7th Petroleumhaven in the world. Driven by its 13,000 employees near the Nieuwe Waterweg on the Calandkanaal, 16 km southwest of the city of Rotterdam and 3 km around the globe, LyondellBasell produces northwest of the Botlek site and is linked to the Botlek and Maasvlakte plants by pipelines. In deze editie van het Havennieuws nemen wij u mee op een reis over de Nieuwe Waterweg van Hoek van Holland naar Rotterdam. Deze intereressante en druk bevaren route is onderdeel van onze dagtocht 2e Maasvlakte. Na uw bezoek aan FutureLand varen wij terug via de Nieuwe Waterweg naar Rotterdam. Sinds 1872 varen de zeeschepen via Hoek van Holland, de Nieuwe Waterweg, het Scheur en de Nieuwe Maas naar hun bestemming in het Rotterdams Havengebied en in 2021 vaart iedere 8 minuten een schip de haven in of uit. In 2022 bestaat de Waterweg 150 jaar en is het tevens 25 jaar geleden dat de Measlantkering in gebruik werd genomen. Reden genoeg om eens wat dieper in de geschiedenis van de Waterweg te duiken. De Nieuwe Waterweg Het ontwerp van de Nieuwe Waterweg is gemaakt door Pieter Caland (1826 - 1902), civiel ingenieur in dienst van Rijkswaterstaat. De naam Caland komt u regelmatig tegen in het Rotterdamse met o.a. het Calandkanaal, Calandbrug, Calandstraat, de Caland (metro) lijn en natuurlijk het Caland monument bij het Werldmuseum aan de Veerhaven recht tegenover ons Ostara ponton. De Nieuwe Waterweg heeft een lengte van 7 kilometer en loopt van de Maasmond tot aan de Maeslantkering. In 1864 kreeg Pieter Caland van de Waterstaatsdienst opdracht om het duingebied van de ´Hoek van Holland` door te steken en de Rijnmonding tot aan zee door te trekken.
